3 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 06/25/2026

Both set of running lights on my Atlas have burned out and were replaced since purchased of car in 2021 and again both left and right running lights are no longer working. The first time the car was under warranty. The cost to fix the led running lights are 1500. 00 + per light! this is clearly a defect on vw‘s design and should be fixed and fall under a recall.

4 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 06/25/2026

Hello, I have a 2022 vw Atlas with 54,250 miles. I noticed today when I started up by car that the drl (daytime running lights) was dimmed to the point where I didn't even notice it on. This seems to be an issue with Volkswagen Atlas's years 2021-2023. It is currently out and anyone can come look at it at anytime. This seems to be a larger issue, many people complaining about this online and the cost to replace / fix the issue is over $1500 with parts and labor. The design makes it so the entire headlight needs to be replaced. Without daytime running lights, I feel like I am not seen as easily so I could be in an accident much easier. I brought the issue to the dealer and they said they see a lot of these failing between 40k - 60k miles. No warning, one day it was working the next it wasn't.

5 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 06/22/2026

Component/system failed: the driver-side daytime running light (drl) failed unexpectedly. The failed led lighting component is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: this failure created a significant safety concern because daytime running lights are designed to improve vehicle visibility to other drivers during daylight and low-visibility conditions. Drls are an important safety feature intended to reduce the risk of collisions by making vehicles more noticeable on the road. The fact that one side of the front lighting system was not functioning reduced the visibility and recognition of my vehicle to other motorists. Additionally, no dashboard warning light, alert, or notification appeared to inform me that the daytime running light had failed. Without any warning system, drivers may unknowingly operate the vehicle with a non-functioning safety component for an extended period of time. Dealer/service confirmation: I was informed by Volkswagen service that the led daytime running light assembly requires a full headlight assembly replacement. Inspections: at this time, the vehicle/component has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. The component is available for manufacturer or agency inspection upon request. Warning lamps or symptoms prior to failure: there were no warning lamps, dashboard messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure. The vehicle provided no indication whatsoever that the daytime running light was no longer functioning. The issue was only discovered visually by another person outside the vehicle. Additional concerns: I am also concerned about the cost and longevity of this component. The replacement part alone reportedly costs over $1,000, not including labor costs. This appears excessive for a vehicle that is only approximately three years old. Led lighting system.

6 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2026 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 06/19/2026

Infotainment system has been rebooting and disabling the cars adas momentarily. Most recently, this resulted in the car turning itself off while making a turn. Happened a second time while pulling into the dealership on the same day.

7 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 06/09/2026

Passenger side day time running light went out right at 60,000. Called dealer not covered under warranty on a 21 Atlas even though I purchased a 4 year 80,000 mile warranty. . The extended warranty started the day I bought the car.

8 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 06/03/2026

Daytime running light (drl) failure on the passenger side. First noticed light does not work on 6/3/2026. An estimate for an independent repair garage is ±$2300.

9 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 05/27/2026

Front passenger-side daytime running light went out. Cannot be replaced individually. Must replace entire front lighting assembly at significant cost.

10 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 05/22/2026

The drls went out at the same time. It's still not working so it's available for inspection. Drls are obviously safety-relevant. No warning, no messages. Checking fault codes shows "module overheating".

11 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 05/21/2026

Driver's side daytime running lights have gone out already after fairly low mileage. Have since discovered this is a very common issue for this model and requires entire headlight assembly replacement, which is over $1,000. This prohibitive cost lessens the likelihood of replacement for many drivers and since it is not legally required it negates the added safety value of these lights.

12 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 05/09/2026

The daytime running lights are not working. It is a safety concern by not being seen easily by oncoming drivers. No warnings were given prior to going out. This seems to be a common problem among same vehicle make and model according to forums on the internet. The only way to be repaired is to replace the entire headlamp assembly at a cost of $1500-$2000 which is not feasible.

13 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 05/09/2026

The daylight running lights failed at the same time. This a closed system so vw wants 1000 per headlight unit.

14 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 05/03/2026

Both led headlight running day lights went out together.

15 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 05/02/2026

This vehicle is equipped with led daytime running lights. These are designed to be long-life, however, as has been noted multiple times in this forum, half of the passenger-side drl on my vehicle has stopped functioning. The repair cost for this item is in excess of $2,000 as the front bumper needs to be removed and the entire headlight assembly replaced. Most drivers will choose to defer replacement, thereby negating the safety value that the drls are intended to provide.

16 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 05/01/2026

One of the headlights failed at 80,000 miles (the other headlight was replaced due to car accident years ago). Volkswagen Atlas models are consistently experiencing a failure of led headlights prematurely when they should last 10-15 years. There is a class action lawsuit against Volkswagen to force them to recall and correct the issue as they have known and failed to correct this critical safety issue. It is unsafe to have these vehicles on the road with faulty headlights, for both the drivers and occupants as well as the other vehicles on the road with them. This particular vehicle has been inspected by a certified mechanic. The dealership would not return my calls in a timely manner and the vehicle needed to be inspected and fixed as quickly as possible as this is a safety issue. There have been no warning lights or messages from the vehicle or my vw app to notify me of this issue prior to failure or after.

17 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 04/29/2026

Led passenger daytime light malfunctioned, and now led driver's headlight has stopped working. Cost to replace each headlight was quoted by 3 dealerships at $3,000 each. Cannot afford to fix this major safety issue. Led lights should not be going out! it should not cost $3,000 to replace headlights! I will need to drive without lights!!.

18 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 04/13/2026

Both my low beam headlamps went out while driving. This is a major safety concern. It is also not an easy or inexpensive fix. The entire assembly must be replaced and not just a bulb. It is a $3000 replacement cost. The led lamp should never go out. Isn't that why led was put in these lights? why did vw make a headlamp that must be completely replaced and why are they charging $1000 for each headlight?.

19 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 04/11/2026

The integrated led daytime running light (drl) strip within the passenger-side headlight assembly failed prematurely at 79,136 miles and remains available for inspection on the vehicle. This failure directly compromises road safety by reducing the vehicle's visibility to oncoming traffic during dawn, dusk, and inclement weather, increasing the risk of a head-on or intersection collision. While I have not yet obtained a formal dealership estimate, this is a known non-serviceable component that typically requires a full headlight assembly replacement costing upwards of $1,500 to $2,000. No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms like flickering occurred prior to the total failure. As this is a factory-installed safety component designed to last the life of the vehicle, its sudden failure suggests a widespread manufacturing defect in the led circuitry. Out daughter used the car to go eat with a friend at a restaurant and noticed the light out when she unlocked the car.

20 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 04/02/2026

Passenger side daytime running light has burned out. Driver side daytime running light is starting to burn out as well. Starting to read that this is a problem for this year make and model of vehicle.

21 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 03/06/2026

The right driver side daylight light is out, the sos response system warning light is on, tire pressure loss detected light is but tires are fine and no loss in pressure, cruise control doesn’t always work and deactivates.

22 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 02/19/2026

I am filing a complaint regarding a premature failure of a critical safety-related lighting component on my 2022 Volkswagen Atlas. The driver-side headlight daytime running light (drl) has failed. After inspection by an authorized Volkswagen dealership (momentum Volkswagen), I was informed that the drl is not a serviceable component and that the entire headlight assembly must be replaced. This is concerning for several reasons: 1. The vehicle is a 2022 model year and has been properly maintained with no accidents or external damage. 2. The drl is an integrated led component that should reasonably last the life of the vehicle. 3. The failure of a non-replaceable led strip forces replacement of the entire headlight assembly, resulting in excessive and unreasonable repair costs. I contacted Volkswagen group of America requesting goodwill assistance, as this appears to be a premature component failure rather than normal wear and tear. Despite escalation and review with a supervisor, my request was denied. The only assistance offered was a 20% dealership discount, which does not adequately address the issue. I believe this situation reflects: •a potential design defect (non-serviceable led component) •unreasonable repair costs due to lack of modular repair options •failure of a component that should not fail under normal conditions in such a short time frame desired resolution: I am requesting that Volkswagen provide goodwill assistance to cover a significant portion (preferably full coverage) of the headlight assembly replacement. Additionally, I encourage Volkswagen to review this design approach, as it places an unfair financial burden on customers for failures of non-serviceable components. I am seeking a fair and reasonable resolution consistent with customer satisfaction and product reliability expectations.

23 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 02/01/2026

The daytime running lights are integrated into the headlight assembly so when the ights fail they cannot be replaced by the car owner by replacing a bulb. They also fail at very low mileage. Mine have failed before 70k miles. To replace the drl the entire housing must be replaced and this costs upwards of $2k per headlight or $4k for both. That is almost 10% of the purchase price of the car! for headlights that the owner should be able to buy and replace themselves for $60.

24 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/24/2026

Led headlight and drl burned out and bulbs cannot be replaced, the entire headlight assembly needs to be replaced costing upwards of $1500. Commonly known problem with vw Atlas, occurring right after the car falls out of manufacturer warranty. Dealership refuse to replace at their expense.

25 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/15/2026

The rear light bar/tail light assembly fills with water and causing turn signals and light bar to intermittently not work. This occurred the first time that the vehicle was left out in the rain at approximately 65k. It is always parked covered and I do not drive in the rain. Many other Atlas have this issue much sooner if they are left in the inclement weather.

26 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/13/2026

Passenger daytime running lights stop working. Vehicle has low mileage but beyond warranty due to years owned.

27 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/12/2026

Daytime running light on passenger side has failed. Repair is complex and estimated at a minimum of $1200 for a part that should last for the lifetime of the car. Numerous other reports of this issue for 2021 vw Atlas model year.

28 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/06/2026

The headlight on my vehicle failed, and when I took it to the dealer, I was told this is a known and ongoing issue that they deal with constantly. Despite being aware of this widespread failure, Volkswagen continues to install the same defective headlight assemblies. These are not simple bulb replacements—the entire headlight assembly must be replaced at a cost of approximately $1,900 per side, not including labor. This cost is completely unreasonable for most vehicle owners. As a result, many people will be forced to drive with non-functioning headlights because they simply cannot afford such an expensive repair. This creates a serious and unnecessary safety risk for drivers, passengers, and everyone else on the road. Volkswagen is fully aware that these headlights fail prematurely and repeatedly, yet no corrective action has been taken to redesign the component, reduce the cost, or issue a recall. Continuing to sell vehicles with a known defective and safety-critical component is unacceptable. Headlights are not a luxury feature—they are a basic safety requirement. There needs to be an immediate recall or manufacturer-covered repair for these headlights. Owners should not be financially punished for a defect that Volkswagen already knows exists, especially when the failure directly compromises vehicle safety. The current situation puts the public at risk and demands prompt action.

29 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/05/2026

The daytime running lights are know to fail within 30-50k miles and the only option is to replace the whole housing unit. This is an unreasonable expectation that customers are purchasing a vehicle at 40-60k and then having to set aside 2k for a headlight replacement.

30 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/02/2026

Drls are simultaneously going out in my not quite 4 year old car. I’m currently at 90k miles. It is available for inspection upon request. . There were no warning lamps. This was discovered on inspection in January 2026. The vw dealership in bakersfield, CA and the vw dealership in oklahoma city, ok inspected and found the same issue.

31 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 12/23/2025

Both low beam headlights went out within two weeks of each other and the vehicle just hit 100,000 miles. Dealership states that replacing the entire headlight assembly is the only fix and will cost $3,000. So now both headlights (safety issue) are out and the vehicle cannot be driven safely. Other vw Atlas vehicles are having the same issue around 50-60k miles. There should be a recall on the head lamps for safety concerns and liability reasons.

32 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 12/17/2025

Dlrs faulty and went out around 77k miles. I cannot burn lights in daytime. Yes, has been confirmed by leith vw of raleigh there were no warning lights of the light going out.

33 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 11/25/2025

The cars headlight drl burnt out and no way to replace them or turn of warning off without paying dealership $2k to replace whole light housing. . Read more...

34 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 11/01/2025

The passenger side low beam headlights failed at roughly 100k miles. The replacement part and labor quote from the dealership was roughly $1,500. I was able to find an oem part online for $800 and install myself. Roughly 12,000 miles later the driver side low beam headlight has failed which will require a replacement as well.

35 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 10/29/2025

Daytime running lights are not functioning and vw wants $1500 per side to replace. This is not reasonable.
