Headlights problems of the 2004 Volkswagen Beetle

Four problems related to headlights have been reported for the 2004 Volkswagen Beetle. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

My engine light came on and the ac stopped blowing cold air. I also noticed a beep sound that would come on when I turned the headlights on but the sound would turn off and on while I drove. Then the alarm stopped working and the interior lights malfunctioned, the radio also gave out and the vehicle seemed to hesitate while driving it. I checked the fuse box on the battery and discovered that the slot where the fuse slips into on top of the vehicle battery was melted and there was something on the driver side headlamp cover like some type of gas or fumes had escaped the battery and sprayed the headlampcover. I changed the fuses around and got the ac going again, then I changed them all out, and everything worked great for about 5 days, then the interior lights went out again, the alarm stopped working, radio is out, the beeping sound is back and when I checked the fuse, it was melting again. I am afraid that while in the vehicle with my children I will have a malfunction and be injured. I just paid off the vehicle. . . What a gift for paying off a vehicle. . . Seems like eveything in and on that vehicle is a hazard and an accident waiting to happen. . Its sad because I use to love my new Beetle.

2 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

Headlight bulbs burn out every three months or so. I am an engineer, and have insured that the connections are tight, and the housing is free of moisture. I have googled this issue and found many similar complaints!!.

3 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2010

My left front headlamp failed while driving. I thought it would be just a bulb. I went to pull the bulb and the headlamp harness was melted and fused. I contacted the local vw dealer and they claimed this can happen and I would have to replace the entire assembly. This is a $400. 00 repair. Why does the harness melt , this is a fire hazard under the hood. Plus what if this happens to both headlights at the same time ??.

4 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2007

I own a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle that I bought new. Last year one of the lens covers on the headlight fell off. I had to replace the whole headlight assembly due to the part falling off as I was driving. I replaced it through ebay. A couple of weeks ago the other factory headlight lens cover fell off . It seemed the sealant that was being used was drying out, causing the lens to come loose and fall off the assembly. Last week, the headlight , that I replaced through ebay, also fell apart, with the lens cover coming off. If I go through the dealership to replace the lens covers it would be in excess of $ 250. 00 a piece for them. I am now looking at having to replace two of them at a cost of more than $500. 00. This to me seemed to be a factory defect as it kept happening.
