Driver and passenger windows require multiple attempts to close completely. Several problems exist---first is that as the windows are raised, they travel upwards, stop, then retract several inches. On subsequent attempts to raise the window, they continue to bind within the door mechanism, requiring additional attempts to get the window to close. Additionally, there is an issue with opening/closing driver and passenger side doors. The window is designed to drop roughly one quarter to three eighth's of an inch while the door is being opened (or closed). Once the door is closed or locked, the window is designed to return to the closed position. The driver's side window does not close completely after locking the car, leaving the car open to the elements and vulnerable to break in. The same problem has appeared on the passenger side, although it only happens much less frequently. Local dealer and vwoa told me there is no fix for the 2012 Beetle window problems, and that I will be called once there is a solution.

I noticed a set of cracks near the top of my windshield, approximately at the point where the rear view mirror attaches and extending up to the roof line edge. The cracks were approximately 6" - 8" in length. I have no idea when or how it occurred as I do not recall any stone or other road debris hitting the windshield, there was no sound of anything hitting the windshield or small chip in the glass where the impact would have occurred. I did not park it under a tree and nothing fell on or hit the glass to my knowledge. I have heard similar reports from other 2012 vw Beetle owners, and it was suggested that some windshields were installed improperly and could lead to stress fractures. . Read more...
Drivers-side back window failed after being let down. Will not return to closed position. Sounded like it was trying at first, but now no sound. Same problem on other side about 18 months ago. An expensive fix that vw said was due to a faulty part that became brittle after some time. I have an eos that vw has put a recall on the same part upon failure. Not sure why there's not one for the Beetle.

This is for a convertible Beetle: the rear window rolled down while opening the top, made a grinding sound, and now will not go up either with the convertible top close button, nor with the individual window button - the window motor works, but the regulator mechanism makes a grinding sound and the window stays in open position (on-line entry system won't accept correct phone # so I list it here: correct daytime phone is [xxx]) . Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I recently purchased a vw Beetle in may of 2010, for my birthday from hollywood auto brokers in los angeles, CA. The car ran smooth for about a course of five to six months, I had to return to the dealership early on because my head lights were out when I first bought the car. As I continued to drive the car, a jerking and extremely weird deceleration of the car would begin, but it would "pop back to normal" after a while, maybe three to ten seconds. This had gone on and has been going on since five months after I brought it. I finally made it back into the dealership and he rode with me on a test drive around the corner and of course it didn't repeat the previous show of defects. He assured me the car is just being broken in. A year goes by and I decided I want to trade in my car for another car, so I head to Nissan. I test drive a car and love it and then go in for the paper work. The guy runs my VIN to see my car value and come backs and tell me my car title is salvaged. To my disbelief and disgust, I immediately called my financial company, al financial of glendale, CA that I am leasing the car from. They give me the run around and assure me that the title is clean and not a salvage. I continue on my investigation and come to a carfax website to get the real facts on my defected vehicle. The information reveals that not only is the title salvage but it had bodily damage and had been totaled out from the insurance company from it's previous owner. The car had been brought back from mexico and registered in the states again as a new car I believe. I would really love to get to the bottom of this situation ASAP and get some closure on a recurring problem that is messing with my income as I am a travel nurse for hospice patients. Recently the water pump has gone out and I'm not sure yet if I need to replace the head gaskets. I hope I can hear an response in a good enough amount of time so I can work out an reimberursement of some kind with payment on either behalf.
This vehicle permiates an odor of crayon wax in heat or cold. More so in heat and when the heat or a/c is being used. The odor sticks to you hair and clothing and is extremely nauseating. In reasearch it is a wax that coats the underlayment of the carpet. If you google "crayon smell in vw or how to remove crayon smell in vw" you will find several forums. I believe it is a health hazard. My daughter drives the vehicle primarily & refuses to use the a/c or heat due to the smell making her sick &sticking to her hair and clothes. I drove it for a weekend and had a nauseating migraine all weekend long. Who knows what long term affect this can have on ones health. I called vw, they said its out of warranty. This isnt due to lack of care or maintence, this is a poor quality material used to manufacture the vehicle that is causing the odor that is making people sick.

The light sockets on the car are loose and will allow the bulb to come loose and not make contact with the connector and the light has to be re-inserted, this constant removal and fixing of the lights has caused several of the components to break and now make it impossible to fix. The effected lights are: tail lights, brake lights, turn signal lights, head light, reverse lights. . . Mainly the rear lights, but the head lights are having the same issue.
The contact owns a 2002 Volkswagen Beetle. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited an abnormal odor that caused the contact to receive headaches. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where the dealer advised that the odor was caused by a stain on the floor mats. The contact stated that the odor was not coming from the floor mats but the entire carpet kit. The contact removed the carpet kit but the odor persisted. The failure mileage was 63,000. The VIN was not available.
I was driving 25 mph and my front bumper hit a parked car, airbag deployed and rendered me unconscience it caused $12,000 to my teeth and possible head injury and 18 months at a specialist dental, had to have a bone graph and stint in my mouth, liver and abdominal contusion had to pay an attorney $9,000 to an attorney to represent me in court, I lost my job and am now on ssd.
Currently have very low mileage(now under 20000) 2002 vw new Beetle purchased new. After time warranty expired both power window(passenger and driver sides) regulators failed (at different times and mileages) spontaneously not due to any external event. . Both regulators required replacement at considerable cost. This is very unusual because auto window regulators usually are very durable when not damaged by external crash or the like. I reported this to Volkswagen but got no satisfaction. On the internet I have found many other complaints from owners about this problem to their dismay and without satisfaction from Volkswagen. There should have been a recall for the defective parts!.

Consumer stated he has learned that the rear spoiler will deploy when driving 45-50 mph, consumer stated on the 2001 model in order for the rear spoiler to deploy, the vehicle must be driven at a rate of 80 mph, consumer feels that this feature was misrepresented and wants to return the vehicle or have this feature disengaged since the spoiler is designed to deploy at such a low speed.
