Fuse box melted twice. The last time totally shut the car down. Vw does not have a fix for this problem. Will sell you new box but will not warentee the new box will not fail again as they do not know why it happens. As I was driving in traffic dashboard warning lights came on and the ac stopped working and the car slowed and lost some power. I was able to get off the road and pull into a repair shop that just happened to be right there. They diagnosed that the fuse box had melted.

I bought a Beetle (136k m) from an acquaintance for $1600 cash there were some issues I. E. The faulty trunk release didnt work, the driver side door had no power, (turns out the door motor is a common issue Beetle has) sunroof was stuck part open, and the key fob to the Beetle had been worn/broken. (fun fact: without the key fob, access to the trunk, and no power to the driver side door. The stock alarm is very difficult to disable. ) we drove the Beetle for about a week when the clutch went out. A transmission specialist quoted us $400 for the hydraulic line, after further examination the entire clutch was out (he charged me $1100) the very next day the oil light was blinking, we checked the oil level and it was full. We continued on our business the car started losing power, stalling and making a horrible tapping/knocking sound. The engine light started blinking. We werent able to pull codes because the odb was disconnected during the expensive clutch repair. At this point we have invested a great deal of money into this used vehicle, we are hesitant to to take it to the crusher. We bought a haynes repair manual and after some luck, common sense, and trouble shooting we were able to diagnose the car with a faulty camshaft timing chain tension guide. The repair seemed easy enough so we enlisted a our family mechanic to perform the repair. After another $575 we discovered that the tension guide was in fact the problem. We were able to get the vehicle all put back together with several new vital parts. It will not turn over. The manual indicates it may still be out of time or we may have a blown fuse. After I replace the fuses and reattempt installing the timing chain, I will have put 3 x as much money into this car than its worth. I feel like volkwagen is producing lemons and ripping off americans!!!.

The car is having issues as exactly the recalls has stated (I haven't known by now about the recalls) 1. Selector shift and shifter cables were broken 2. Break switch did not function, leading to malfunction of epc (electronic processing control) that later caused cruise control, taillight and ac compressor not working 3. Windshield wiper pump was not working 4. Headlight beam was low.

Engine stallig usually when turning, after a stop, when going slow. . . We have tried to fix this issue by taking the car to mechanics and they can't rule out a solution because it happens randomly and it seems to be when the car has been warmed up. No check engine light. Very scary because there's loss of steering wheel power and it happens intermittently. We have changed numerous things and it keeps giving us this issue. Sometimes it idles rough. Sometimes the needle where the rpms are drops but comes back up. We have exhausted our options and we can't find a solution.

I was driving and the epc light came on. At the dealership I was told the car needed a carbon cleaning which is a $900 job. Being that my car is only 5 years old and only has 40k miles I was shocked. After doing research and talking to the dealership I learned that all 2012 bettles with this direct fuel injection design have this problem. It is systematic issue within the design of the fuel injection that causes the coils to fail and the car to need a $900 carbon cleaning done every few years. High grade gasoline or/and fuel injection cleaner does not help. I called the vw and they refused to do anything about this problem.

Epc warning light want turn off. Vehicle is stationary as well as in motion. Speed decreases when traveling on roadway.
Esp light will come on and critical error will flash when first starting vehicle. Vehicle will sutter and will not start. When vehicle is taken to have the error message read no record is found in the car's computer. This has happened several times. Most recently an error message flashed on the screen and the whole car went dead.
When I drive the car go slow then fast.

First this is my 2nd complaint on this sme vehicle. I also posted last year on this site when this vehicle stalled in middle of freeway going 60 mph. Now this car has trouble starting. Especially after sitting a few days. Was parked at airport parking for 4 days. Sputtered a few minutes before starting but finally started. Drove 30 miles in rain & stopped to get gas. Then the car would not start. All lights came on. Got several warnings like "key not in range" but it was in range. "stability control error" lots of clicking sounds but engine wouldn't start. Have to have towed and take back to delearship. I see lots of service bulletins on this site for this same issue. Not sure if it's the fuel pump, starter, or something else.
The hood doesn't fit. Engine put together tape. Air condition system taped together. And and console lights on. Won't hold charge. Top made of plaster board. Miniature battery was installed. Needed jump if stopped rear breaks needed whole replaced. Needs radiator. Interior handles fell off. Key is not made for this car. My mechanic told me to junk it.
Fuse box on top of battery melted.
For the past 3-4 years my Beetle has had worsening electrical issues. Sometimes it just turns off all by itself. Everything electrical goes out. It has even happened while driving, I was in traffic and it shut off. I was nearly killed.

Epc and engine light comes on and the cars shuts off,no power. Have to restart after a few minute,on interstate and major road.
On the 2nd my son was driving my car on the highway with me as a passenger at 70 mph when suddenly the rpm's shot up and the car stalled out. Fortunately he was able to restart the car and safely get us off the highway. We then approached a light in which we had to stop at and the car did not want to go. I finally figured out the car was in a safety mode and is stuck in 3rd gear. I have had three mechanic look at the car. No one can figure out at this point if it needs a new transmission or it is an electrical problem with the transmission. Either way a transmission should not have issues at under 100,000 miles. I have also looked on line and seen to shock how many people with this car are have issues with their transmissions. Why have the transmissions not been recalled? we could have been killed or seriously injured when the car just stalled out at 70 mph. On top of the car is falling apart! in the 9 months I have owed the fuel pump has gone out, waterpump, timing belt, and thermostat as well. Not too forget to mention that the interior is slowly falling apart as well. Something done about this situation!!!.
