1 Suspension problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 09/17/2024

I started to hear clanking noise on left front side (drivers side) while driving. I removed the left front tire. Upon looking inside the wheel housing I observed that spring on the suspension strut was broken and lower part of spring the was no longer inside the lower spring seat. The spring is sliding off the strut and a piece of the metal spring fell off. I have many years of experience working on cars and have owned many vehicles and this is the first time one of my vehicles experienced a spring failure which such low mileage. The vehicle only has a little over 13,000 miles so this spring failure is not from wear and tear from driving. The left front the car and wheel housing of the car is now sagging and this make it unsafe to drive. If I was driving and the piece of the metal spring sprung out it could have caused a safety concern to other motorist. I did contact Volkswagen customer support but was told that this spring failure was not part of any recall or warranty extension. Any repairs would have to be done at my own expense.

2 Suspension problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 07/13/2023

The contact owns a 2016 Volkswagen Beetle. The contact received notification of the NHTSA campaign number: 22v945000 (air bags) however, parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Additionally, the contact stated that the tpms warning light and the air bag warning light were intermittently illuminated. The contact then stated that on two separate occasions while driving at approximately 35-40 mph, the vehicle inadvertently jerked and veered to the left or right side of the road. The contact also stated that on multiple occasions while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle drove over a bump in the roadway and started shuddering. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front passenger’s side lower ball joint failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

3 Suspension problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 07/04/2023

The airbags deployed on their own on 7-4-2023 in my daughter’s 2013 vw Beetle. My daughter and her friend were both injured (physically/mentally) as a result of both front airbags (steering wheel and dashboard airbags) deploying on their own causing over $10,000 usd damage to the Beetle and injury to my daughter and her friend who was a passenger in the front seat. Volkswagen never sent out a recall notice to us even though we have owned the car since 9-13-2019 and the airbag recall notice was determined on 12-16-2020 by NHTSA and announced on that date. I only became aware of this recall through investigation, after the accident happened and during repairing of the car. The vehicle was not inspected by the manufacturer, or police, or insurance even though progressive insurance paid out over $20,000 in damages to the parked cars that were struck after the airbags deployed causing the vw Beetle to crash into two parked cars in a residential neighborhood. There was a sparse accident report that was filed by colorado state police. There were not any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the tatanka airbag failure and recall.

9 Suspension problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 12/06/2016

My car- 1999 vw Beetle was not fully inspected before I got the car from dealer. I just found out that my car has long list of parts need replacement to repair and I felt that it wasn't real safe because of strut shock and power steering also cv joints are getting bad in the under of hood. I found out that my car has no panel skid for prevent from wetting on motor parts and got bad acid on it. I has to order the parts for my car and hasn't driven for almost 6 months by so far. By right I don't have much money to pay for repairs.

13 Suspension problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

Strut bar has disconnected from vehicle causing a "scrubbing" noise. Dealership examined vehicle, and found the source of the noise. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

14 Suspension problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

Car rolled-over very easily after going off road when drive lost control on icy surface. My concern is based on the car rolling over too easily. Do not believe the grade that cause the roll over would have caused any other vehicle to roll. This indicates to me that the vw Beetle may not be designed correctly.
