1 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 10/25/2024

Hi, one time the car wheel turned extra and the gas went extra fast. I also had several devices on my car through blue tooth that were not mine and mirror link kept checking and aux. This is conjunction with 3 years of hacking (that I think is technically-assisted abuse) with Smart home hub, surveillance, spyware on phone and hacked emails. Tried filling out ic3. Gov form to no avail. Took car twice to volkswagan dealer in springfield, PA and paid $100 twice to clear the dashboard but it kept happening with roav-fr3 and something fm-forman (cant recall names) and keyless car detective. Then I paid to remove the car radio. Then I found a navaro device on passenger side under seat but dealer refused to remove it and when I called Volkswagen from there they said only the dealer knows where the vehicle embedded sim is. They do not know how to check software and say 'it is uncharted territory. ' I do not feel safe. There are no laws regarding car hacking and Smart home abuse and I am now writing a book for women about it so they are not gas lighted and can get help. This can be a deadly mistake and there needs to be an easy inexpensive place for someone to have their car checked for malware, sim or sd card. Please help. There was a police report but I do not have it. It was on 10/20/24 with colonial chris mcwilliams state police middletown, PA 19063. He said navaro device was factory installed but volkswagan said it was not. Mechanic said it was a satellite radio device.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 01/03/2021

Vw recall: 69bc, driver frontal airbag, NHTSA: 20v785 4/16/today I called local vw dealership, (southpoint Volkswagen, 13940 airline hwy. , baton rouge, la 70817, 855-498-0983) to schedule repair of this recall. Dealership service department informed me that they are only scheduling (1) recall repair per day and the soonest time I could schedule is 6/01/21 (@45 days). This seems very unreasonable given the potential danger/threat that this recall presents. Because the recall involves the driver's frontal airbag, the only (2) options available to the owner is 1). Continue to use the car, knowing the potential danger of "serious injury or death" it presents to self (& therefore passengers as well) or 2) in order to ensure my personal safety, I can "choose" not to use the vehicle (and do what? rent a car?!) second concern: the vehicle's speedometer (analog) spontaneously stopped working while the car was being driven @3months ago (1/03/21) for no apparent reason (car was not involved in an accident; no pot-hole, road hazard, unusual weather, etc. At the time that the speedometer stopped working or during recent use; & vehicle has been properly maintained. Since the car cannot pass louisiana's annual "safety sticker" inspection without a functioning speedometer, I will have to pay for this repair out of pocket. This seems to be a common problem with many vw cars.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 06/11/2019

Driving my 2004 Volkswagen Beetle is dangerous. The tiptronic transmission in the 2004 vw Beetle is known by Volkswagen to be defective. At any point the valve body can fail, which causes delayed shifting, and hard jerking between gears. My 2004 Beetle fails to shift when accelerating between 2nd and 3rd gear. This causes the vehicle to coast for several seconds, sometimes requiring pulling off the road because of traffic. When downshifting it jerks extremely hard. You get in, start the engine, and receive no warnings that anything is wrong with the vehicle. No check-engine light provides any indication that the vehicle is dangerous. You drive down some city streets and hop onto the freeway to go to your favorite grocery store. After getting off the freeway the car is fully warmed up, and as it downshifts from 4th to 3rd gear it lurches. It feels like the engine is trying to jump out of the car! no engine light comes on. Then you stop at the end of the off-ramp, and wait for a traffic light to turn. After turning the car shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. Then it fails to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. The gear doesn't engage, and the car coasts down the road without any power. Drivers passing by are staring. The SUV behind you is right on your butt; they begin honking. There's nothing you can do. Finally, after 20 seconds of coasting the car enters 3rd gear with a giant lurch. It feels like it's going to explode! you pull into the grocery store parking lot, heart racing, knowing that the car you're driving almost caused an accident that could kill a half a dozen people. And you know to get home it's going to happen all over again. This problem is reported by hundreds of owners. This is an extreme safety hazard. Volkswagen needs to recall the affected vehicles and pay damages for those whose transmissions were destroyed by this defective valve body and transmission.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 08/16/2016

Tl- the contact owns a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle. While driving 55 mph, smoke appeared from the rear of the vehicle and the abs warning indicator illuminated. The contact coasted to the side of the road. The contact noticed that the rear driver side tire was smoking and there was an odor of coolant. The contact waited a few minutes and was able to drive. The contact stated that the failure occurred when the vehicle accelerated between 40 and 60 mph. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic testing or repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 04/02/2015

On the 2nd my son was driving my car on the highway with me as a passenger at 70 mph when suddenly the rpm's shot up and the car stalled out. Fortunately he was able to restart the car and safely get us off the highway. We then approached a light in which we had to stop at and the car did not want to go. I finally figured out the car was in a safety mode and is stuck in 3rd gear. I have had three mechanic look at the car. No one can figure out at this point if it needs a new transmission or it is an electrical problem with the transmission. Either way a transmission should not have issues at under 100,000 miles. I have also looked on line and seen to shock how many people with this car are have issues with their transmissions. Why have the transmissions not been recalled? we could have been killed or seriously injured when the car just stalled out at 70 mph. On top of the car is falling apart! in the 9 months I have owed the fuel pump has gone out, waterpump, timing belt, and thermostat as well. Not too forget to mention that the interior is slowly falling apart as well. Something done about this situation!!!.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 06/26/2014

Car stalls and looses power while driving. 3rd incident on car. Dealer and manufacture can't find any issue to repair.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

2007 Beetle convertible shifts hard (violently) from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear in standard mode and sport mode. This has been an ongoing problem while the vehicle is warm. Contacted local dealer and was told since there weren't any codes present, that I did not have a problem. Last week the car stalled while trying to accelerate onto the highway. I managed to steer off the highway onto the shoulder to avoid a collision. Vw of America is aware of this problem but will not resolve their manufacturing issues. This issue poses a serious threat to occupant safety.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 10/28/2013

The speedometer stopped working. Shortly after this the drive by wire throttle also stopped working returning the vehicle to an idle (approx. 1100 rpm). This can occur at any time. You have to restart the vehicle to get the throttle to work again. This is very dangerous when it happens in heavy traffic. The manufacturer (vw) can offer no solution to the problem. I have discovered this issue, at some point in time, could affect all of the 1999 -2009 new Beetles along with the Audi tt. Again vw and the speedometer cluster manufacturer magneti morelli can offer no fix for the problem.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Volkswagen Beetle. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently. The contact applied the brakes and the vehicle was brought to a stop. Two months later while parking in a residential garage, the failure recurred and the contact crashed into and rolled over a cement chock followed by a storage unit that fractured the windshield. The contact was not injured. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but no cause for the failure was determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 37,387.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 05/17/2013

Driving down a long two-lane road, I decided to put on the cruise-control for the first time since purchasing the vehicle. As my intersection came up, I hit the brakes to take the car out of cruise-control and began my turn, but the car did not slow, no matter how hard I hit the brakes. The malfunction caused me to take the turn too fast and I headed straight into a 4 foot decorative rock wall that bordered the road. The airbags deployed, the car was completely totaled, and I had to spend the night in the hospital.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 01/05/2013

I bought my 2003 vw Beetle a few months ago from a private seller. In the past week, the shifting has gotten really difficult and it very often will not accelerate easily. My husband drove the car and reported having no problems, so he didn't believe me. Yesterday, I was driving on the highway and couldn't get the car to accelerate past 50 mph. It was especially scary when I tried to cross the highway and the car didn't want to accelerate at all. That could have been a horrible accident. After crossing the highway, I was unable to accelerate past 20 mph. I parked the car at a relatives home and had her drive me home as I was afraid to drive the car again. I started doing research and was blown away by the number of people facing the same problems. This is a dangerous situation that needs to be resolved.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 11/12/2012

The vehicle starts up fine and accelerates normal at first. Just before the vehicle switches to second gear it gets stuck. The only way to get it to properly shit to second gear is to give it more gas, which makes the rpms go up to 7,000. At this point the vehicle changes to second gear and lunges forward. I have almost rear ended multiple people do this this problem. Once the vehicle gets into second gear it accelerates normally again, just until it changes to third gear and does the same problem that I described above. This problem is not only dangerous, but also financial hurtful. I have read hundreds of reviews on this problem and they all describe the same thing, along with their vehicles being very low in mileage.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Volkswagen of orange park is not following safety standards. They replace carpet after flood. Damage by sliceing the carpet under the dash and not removing the dashboard as they are paid. This could result in the carpet becoming lodged under control pedals as its compromised.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

Approximately one week ago I noted that when I put my 2001 Beetle into drive, the transmission did not catch. As I pushed the gas peddle down, it was necessary to rev the engine and then it would finally catch. The problem has gotten worse over the course of the week and will go into the shop this week. The safety issue is that it is necessary to rev the engine to get it into gear. I have almost hit the car in front of me on 2 occasions, but was able to hit the brake in time. I now push the brake and accelerator at the same time to avoid this possibility. I have read of similar transmission problems on the new Beetle and want to add my experience at a paltry 41,000 miles to the list. I have not had the problems described in other postings such as difficulty shifting from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd. I also have not had the car downshift or shift to neutral as others have described. The major reason for posting this is the two episodes of almost hitting the car in front of me when the transmission engaged.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 07/20/2011

My 2003 Beetle has been violently jerking after about 10-15 minutes of driving (when it warms up). If I'm at a stop sign or red light and accelerate - it violently jerks into gear !! if I baby it and barely move (where traffic is practically running into me from behind), it is not soooo bad, but still bad and it is very dangerous. Vw also extended the warranty until 2010 or 100,000 which ever came first, and unfortunately 2010 came first and they refuse to extend the warranty to be used under the 100,000 miles rule. This is extremely expensive to fix, I've read thousands of the same exact complaints in this car -- thousands, the very same thing and vw will not take responsibility to change it to 100,000 miles and not just 2010 (which obviously has past 2 years ago). This is dangerous and expensive. It is a defect and vw should pay for this. Do people have to get killed before they offer the extension up to 100,000 miles??? thank you.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 02/15/2011

Over the last couple of years my 2003 vw Beetle has been in and out of the garage. It seems to have trouble changing gears (it's an automatic) and has gotten stuck in 3rd gear. It will jerk and lunge when slowing down. Each time the mechanic has "reset the codes" and the test drive showed no signs of anymore trouble. It has gotten much worse and now after driving for about 25 or 30 minutes it begins the jerking and lunging. After researching, I see that this is a common problem with this car. I love my car, but no longer feel safe driving it and I certainly cannot rely on it. I now feel that I am stuck with a car that I cannot drive nor can I sell.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 11/24/2010

My fiancee and I purchased this Beetle in November of 2010 and have had nothing but problems with it. It has been in the shop a number of time (5-7) and we have spent hundreds in trying to fix it. Yet no luck. It is a danger to my fiancee and new born baby. On day it will run fine but then after driving for ten minutes the epc light come on and the brakes barely work if at all, and it wont speed up even if she has her foot to the floor. So now we have a $6000 dollar car that not even the vw dealership can fix. It sits on our road. I have seen so many complaints about people having the same problem and I believe its only a matter of time before some one gets seriously injured or even worse. Please do something about this monstrosity that vw refuses to admit.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 10/04/2010

K I recently bought a 99 vw Beetle and now all of a sudden my car jerks when it hits like 3000rpm and it idles higher then it should.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

2000 new Beetle with its second transmission. I thought these were reliable cars that would be reliable for back and forth to work. . I looks at the forums and find im one of the thousands that has had the same issue. Is this acceptable?.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 11/12/2009

Transmission failure- vehicle down shifted hard and would not come out of 1st gear during heavy traffic on highway almost causing rear end collision. After turning car off and turning vehicle back on it proceeded for about 5 miles before doing the same. Car was towed and transmission was rebuilt but the car continues to do the same. Recently traveling on highway during rush hour, slowing down for traffic that was at a stand still the vehicle downshifted hard causing the car behind me to slam on his brakes causing an accident behind me.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 01/31/2008

I bought my 99 Beetle in October of 2007 and the day that I got the car the oil light came on and I took it back they had it for one month they replaced the motor and wire cluster. When I finally got it back about two weeks passed and I was driving on the interstate and my speedometer went from 0 to 120 and then the care lost power on the middle lane of the road. I took it back and they replaced the transmission I have tried numerous times to get them to take the car back and they wont. After I got it back that time the heater stopped working and the speedometer will not go above 40 when I told them this they said they would not fix it that it was my problem. Yesterday my mileage, speedometer, and gas gage stopped working my check engine light came on. And I don't know what to do if you know any one who could help me with these problems please let me know.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 12/08/2007

The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Beetle. While driving approximately 60 mph in dry conditions, the vehicle would decelerate on its own and then accelerate. The contact pulled to the side of the road and waited for a tow truck. While waiting, the brake lights would not dim. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they were unable to locate the failure. The manufacturer sent an investigator, but they could not provide him with any information. The contact has called the manufacturer several times, but they have not returned any calls. The current and failure mileages were 10,000. Updated 4/23/08 the consumer stated the vehicle stalled on several occasions.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 10/02/2003

Instrument panel malfunctioned. As a result, speedometer and fuel gauge read improperly. The cause has yet to be determined.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 01/22/2002

Most of the engine was replaced during the beginning of January. On Jan 22nd, traveling on a highway, engine lost power and was almost involved in a multi-car accident. I was in the middle lane and the power cut from 55 to about 10 miles an hour in the matter of seconds. Other cars were swerving around me and I was finally able to pull off the road. Car was towed back to dealership and the throttle body was cleaned out. On Jan 30th the same thing happened again, only this time I was not on a highway but a side street. Car was towed away again andis in the dealership waiting for repairs. During this month not only was an engine replaced but it malfunctioned twice. It is dangerous to travel on any highway with this car. The engine malfunctioned twice in one week. I can not safely return to driving this car. I was almost killed once and was very lucky not to have been involved in a seriuos accident. The Beetle has engine problems and very major ones. For a car that is 8 months old, this should not be happening.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 09/30/2001

Consumer states that the vehicle will intermittenly lose power at a certain speed and stay there for about 30 seconds the consumer has tried to step on the gas pedal but the vehicle will still drive at the same speed. Contacted dealer and the dealer is not willing to do anything.

Failure Date: 08/18/1998

Vehicle experienced hesitation upon acceleration, dealer adjusted the throttle body control module.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

Accelerator still activated when pressing on brake pedal. Too close together! I have confirmed this with many other new Beetle owners. Also, visibility is very poor when changing lanes because front headrests cannot be lowered enough and pillars obstruct.
