The fuzebox in this car is unprotected from water and can cause a fire and any time water may leak into car. I parked my car and when I went to her back in it a hour later it wouldn't crank that's when we discovered the fuze box was melted from getting too hot due to it leaking thru the antenna o to the relays filling them with water and then cause a drip to come from relays onto fuze and burn out the fuze slit for the fuel pump which caused my car not to crank at all. This a common occurrence and could potentially be a huge problem.

The contact owns a 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio. On August 29, 2017, the vehicle was taken to the dealer (david maus Volkswagen, 1050 lee rd, orlando, FL 32810) for routine maintenance. The contact returned on September 13, 2017 to retrieve the vehicle and noticed that the air conditioner was no longer working. The contact informed the technician that the air conditioner was not working like it was before the routine maintenance was performed. The vehicle was left at the dealer for another day to find out what was causing the failure. The following day, the dealer diagnosed that there was a blockage that caused the failure and would cost approximately $400 to repair. The contact stated that the staff became very aggressive. The contact requested to have a second opinion from an independent mechanic, for which a letter had to be written and approved by the service director. The contact was informed that the request was denied. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The vehicle had not been removed from the dealer since August 29, 2017. There were no recalls associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was 44,375.

Engine coil suddenly went bad. Had prior repair.
2002 vw Cabrio convertible, when it rains the lights, electrical locks and dome lights turn on and off, the whole electrical lighting and electronic switch failure occurs. Like the care is possessed, I called Volkswagen and they said this is not a safety issue, however have you ever driven a car at night with the lights inside and out going on and off. Now I have to manually turn everything on and off, this is not the vehicle guarantee that I bought into. I believe this should be fixed as it is a real hazard on the road, however Volkswagen thinks differently since there is no recall. All of the vw mechanics in my area are very aware of this issue and it will cost over 3000. 00 to fix everything including the alarm that is no longer functional due to the electrical issue that this car has. I have been trying for a year or so to see if they will fix this issue so now I am just going to file a complaint to see if you can help in getting the issue fixed before someone gets killed in this car.
I own a 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, manufactured by Volkswagen of America, inc. My turn signal and hazard flasher have stopped functioning. Initially it was intermittent, but it has finally stopped working. Fuses have been checked. It's exactly like the NHTSA campaign# 04v584000 - the same problems other vw models of the same year had.
I have had various electrical problems with this car the speedometer freezing or the since it was under warranty. Sometimes my air conditioner won't start. Check engine light, abs or the check trunk comes on has been doing this since the car was under warranty. They told me it was just the summer heat. Recently last March I took it to freeway they said it was one part that was failing. I bought the part from Volkswagen and had it installed. The light still came on. I took it to Volkswagen riverside they said it was a fuse yet I had already paid for the other part. I also bought a turn signal switch because freeway said that is why my hazards come on instead of a right turn signal. It still blinks hazards till this day. Even after I took it to Volkswagen riverside since freeway Volkswagen could not figure it out. Volkswagen riverside took my car apart and still could not find out what was wrong with the electrical. The mechanic was looking for the problem all day and when he put my car back together he forgot to put the light fixture back into the right side of my car. Because of that a bulb melted some plastic and it won't fit back in so it's hanging in my trunk. This is hazardous because I drive to work on the freeway every day. I should not have to pay for these problems anymore. I just want someone to figure out what is really wrong and fix it. I have spent approx 1,000 -2,000 dollars in repairs that didn't seem to even be what the problem was . So now I have a new turn signal switch and some other part that was like 300. Not to mention the fuses I have bought and water pumps, relay switch and many other parts. I have been paying fixing problems that have existed since it was under warranty and they told me there was nothing wrong just the heat. Yet, after socking all of this money into the car the problems still exist. Just the other day my check engine light went on again.

My car's electrical system started to fail two weeks ago. The directionals, interior lights, all exterior lights and heater did not work. I was told by a vw dealership in MA that the car alarm system malfunctioned and has caused the switching gear and other various electrical components in my car to malfunction. After informing that the cost to repair this problem would be around $1,000. 00 I decided to look into these issues only to be surprised to find that my vw 1999 Cabrio is notorious along with all of the other makes of the vw line to have faulty and problematic electrical systems. My car is under warranty, but was told, "sorry this is not a covered item" there are various resources out there to learn that over and over again, this happens to the consumer of their cars. When you pay $35000 for a car you expect it to not have any problems like this before 50k miles.
1) no known event leading to this radio system failure. 2) radio suddenly and inexplicably moved from normal 'on' to maximum blaring volume with no one touching it. . . And could not be changed, turned off, or altered in any way. Radio controls had no effect, even turning off the auto and removing the keys did not shut off radio. Driving suddenly became dangerous and nearly impossible as the noise was deafening and totally distracting. I could not hear my teenage son in the seat next to me (not necessarily a bad thing). . . But could see well enough that he was laughing his head off (an annoying irriatation that did not help!) :)
after 15 - 20 minutes and some miles of tortured driving, the radio went silent on it' s own. 3) no corrective action taken yet.

Consumer stated the power locks, mirrors, heated seats, and cruise control stopped working.
Convertible top accumulating some kind of black substance that hardens and cannot be removed. At the three year mark, the car just began to deteriorate very quickly. Timing belt, convertible stopped working, abs brakes kick in when not supposed to, exhaust system had to be replaced at 40k miles. Key lock button fell out, cannot get it to stay in. Seat belt assembly fell apart. Interior door handles not made well, loosened and feel as if they may fall off. Cd changer has never worked properly.
Vehicle stopped running while driving. Towed to dealer. Dealer had to replace fuel pump. There was also a smell of fuel in the car. The vehicle has also had electrical defects.
