We have experienced repeated electrical problems with 2002 Volkswagen Eurovan. Many electrical components have been replaced, including generator, battery, throttle controls, and an abs sensor. The problems persists. The most dangerous is that the brake warning light comes on randomly, apparently for no reason. We cannot tell whether there is a brake failure, or erroneous warning. The dealer has looked at this problem more than five times, and has not been able to fix it. Today the brake warning light came on, and at the same time both windshield wipers failed. We had to stop in the middle of the road, during a heavy rainstorm, turn the car "off", then restart to get the brake warning light to go off and the windshield wipers to run. Obviously it is dangerous to be driving with zero visibility, and then to have to stop in the middle of traffic to restart the car. Vw needs to correct systemwide electrical problems with the 2002 vw Eurovan.

The contact owns a 2002 Volkswagen Eurovan. While driving at 30 mph the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that this failure occurred on several occasions. Also, the contact stated that the generator and battery indicators remained illuminated on the instrument panel. On February 23, 2006, the engine fan was repaired on the vehicle and cost the contact $977. The dealer stated that the contact needed to pay an additional $92 for the diagnostics of the generator. The contact was issued case # 60034264 by the manufacturer. The current mileage is 37,000 and failure mileage was 15,000.
My 1997 vw Eurovan camper caught fire on December 8, 2002 as it was being driven on interstate 10 near redlands, CA. It was totally lost. Apparently the fire started under the dash on the passenger side. Vw, after inspection, denies responsibility because an after market radio was installed. The firm which installed the radio has inspected the car and reports that the fire was on the passenger side. There is good evidence of much more heat on the right side. Wire insulation jackets are burned off there and not near the radio. No wires were cut during the radio installation, but rather the radio plug was connected to the vw plug. The vehicle has about 45,000 miles on it. On Nov. 6, 1998, the dealer replaced the regulator motor and the window motor in the passenger door. On June 19, 2000, the dealer replaced the passenger side window motor. On July 17, 2000, the dealer found a loose wire connection when I reported that the speakers were not working since the June 19 repair.
