Certain conditions cause the electrics door locks to not function. When this happens, it is not possible to exit the car from the inside as the door handles are not operative creating a trapped situation potentially leading to injury or death if the case of a fire.

There is an issue with the gear shift cover trim. The piece that goes around the gear shift has a chrome coating that has been pealing off. Over multiple occasions that pealed off piece of metal has cut my finger causing bleeding. There seems to be a recall on the dsg gti for this, but not the mt. I am having the same exact issue as the dsg and the replacement part is the exact same (likely same original part). The safety issue is that this has cut my finger multiple times with bleeding and can be quite painful. I called vw and was told my car was not part of the dsg recall 34j7/34l9, but clearly it has the same issue. Here is the case number from that call: vw customer care [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The hood release doesn’t work and cannot access anything in the engine bay. No oil changes until the hood can be opened. Clear recall due to the danger of not being able to open. The handle inside the car broke by attempting to open the hood.

Driving down the highway at 70mph and what sounded like a gunshot inside the car. Glass started falling on us driving down the road. The sunroof glass exploded. Got pulled over and looked and the glass is literally blown outward not inward like something falling on it. The hole it bulged up and the glass from the hole was missing.

Leaking sunroof !!!!!!!.
The headlight assembly design, prevents owners from changing a light bulb own their own. Per the law, a car must have functioning headlights. The design on the hid headlight assembly, requires hours of work, removing the bumper, the grill, other parts that require many tools and skilled knowledge of the brand. Considering this is a headlight that is required to be street legal, an owner can't change the bulb in emergencies. An owner must wait for an appointment with a dealer or certified Volkswagen mechanic with the proper training to change a light bulb. Regulation should prevent such designs, as the current design can make it dangerous for the driver. Just as when a driver needs to change a tire that's flat, and use the spare, a light bulb is just as critical to prevent accidents.

2017 vw gti, incredibly common issue of the sunroof surround cracking and allowing water to leak into the electrical components and headliner of the vehicle. Vw does not care to admit fault on this even though there are hundreds of documented cases about this issue. Less than a year out of warranty and now dealing with potential mold issues or worse, an electrical shortage problem that could cause a fire. Not sure how this can be seen in hundreds of cases from vw owners and they haven’t done anything about it. Major issue.
Discovered several inches of water in the spare tire boot area. The entire back seat was also soaked through. Water appears to be leaking into the car from rear pressure vents behind the bumper or from another undetermined source, posing risks including black mold and damage to the spare tire.
My vw Golf has experienced rear door lock issues where both rear dock locks no longer work (lock or unlock) when pressing the lock button on the key or inside the vehicle. The only way to get the doors to lock is by manually locking the doors via a little slot in the door sill on each side. While it can be unlocked internally by just pulling the handle one time. This is a safety issue as door locks are a necessity for a vehicle to prevent theft of vehicle or items inside. It can also cause safety concerns for passengers in the rear(which is usually children. This also poses a danger to children due to the ease of unlocking from inside the rear passenger seats. The problem was confirmed to be the rear door latches via a dealer on 2/23/2024, however after replacing both latches with new parts, nothing was resolved. This issue is not the first time, as it is known that vw locks and many electrical components may randomly stop working, I have experienced the issue with a previous Volkswagen vehicle as well (2009 vw jetta). There are no warning lights on the dashboard or other signs of the failure.
Front passenger door opened on its own with a bang while making a left turn. Driving alone, passenger door had been securely locked for over a week, during left turn going 25 mph, a loud banging sound occurred, passenger door opened and indicator warning light in dash came on. Door opened approx 1 cm. Car is not safe to drive for fear of door opening again randomly. Vw of America nonchalantly stated they are sorry my door opened and stated they would not cover any potential repairs.
There is a crack and leak in my sunroof. I have not done anything to my car that would result in the crack. Based on reddit searches, this is a frequent problem for vw owners. Autobody shops do not want to touch my sunroof or fix it because they do not have success fixing sunroofs.
Driver's door latch failed and often will not latch the door closed. Door just bounces off the door frame lightly. Occasionally I've missed that this has happened and started driving with the door unlatched.
There is a crack on the roof, the crack is between the sunroof and the door.
Car has a water leak in the panoramic sunroof since new. Vwoa has done the TSB's but the problem continues. Leak is around the passenger side a pillar, sunviser and dome light.
The chrome trim around the shifter level is extremely sharp and is a safety hazard. Reaching into the storage compartment in front of the shifter, my finger caught this sharp edge and was seriously cut. There was a lot of blood and pain as a result. An online search reveals that this type of injury is not uncommon.
Sunroof leaks into headliner and down the side pillars. Occurs when stationary and in motion during periods of extended rain. Results in damage to electronics, sound system and fabric/body components.
The door latches on all four driver and passenger doors often malfunction. Most the time you have to press on the door from the outside until you hear a soft click before the the door handle will work. Otherwise it is as if it were locked when it is unlocked. Also my car will lock itself if I unlock it with the key fob and get in the driver side door without starting immediately. It doesn't seem to recognise I've entered the vehicle.

Front and rear radio speakers are not sealed properly leading to rain leaking into the floor and body of the car. This has been reported significantly and frequently online. Vw will fix my car for approximately $4500.
Sunroof shade would not stay closed. Repaired twice by dealership. 12/7/19 driving on road (no traffic or vehicles nearby), suddenly loud explosion sound, sunroof completely shattered, blew out basketball size hole in sunroof glass before completely shattering entire sunroof glass. Vehicle was moving on rural paved road, no other vehicles on roadway. Sunscreen prevented glass from entering driver's compartment.
Immediately after beginning to leave work on November 13, 2019, I noticed the sunroof on my 2018 vw Golf was shattering and crumbling away, starting toward the front and center of the sunroof. The initial break must have occurred either as it was sitting in the parking lot at work, or immediately after beginning to drive, at no more than 20mph, because I noticed it on the driveway leading away from my workplace. The weather was about 30 degrees fahrenheit with no precipitation and there was no road debris involved. Over the next few days, I tried to limit my use of the car (I secured a rental car through my insurance for a few days) but the area of broken glass expanded significantly anyway. To date, vw has not accepted any responsibility for this under warranty even though the car was bought new, I am the only owner, and it only had about 20,300 miles on it at the time of the incident. They suggested I go through my insurance for the repair. The repair is in progress but I am told by the glass shop that is handling it that one of the two sunroof actuators actually appears damaged by the flexing and breaking of the glass and this is making it difficult to remove the original sunroof panel.
Sunroof drain reenforcement steel has developed stress cracks. Which has let water leak inside vehicle, onto headliner and down a-pillars saturating front side curtain airbags making them defective. Vehicle can be stationary or operated, it will leak either way. Volkswagen refuses to address issue with airbags and leak saying there is not a safety issue so they wont cover repair which could cost greater than $2,500. Vehicle has also developed black mold between roof and headliner which is hazardous to breath. Technical bulletin #60-17-01(v601701) is the repair instructions for dealership only repair but does not include airbag replace or headliner replacement. I addressed issue with Volkswagen multiple times which they deny any safety issues.
Sunroof frame leaks water into the car. The water drips on to the center console hardware/electronics and hardware/electronics located on the windshield. The leak is a known defect for vw Golf 2016, as vw previously sent out a recall for the sunroof frame. The leak occurs after heavy rainfall. The water drips right on to the acc cruise control. Vw acknowledged in phone message that source of leak was sunroof and that it should be covered by the recall. Originally, I thought the leak derived from dirty drains, but vw clarified the root cause as the sunroof. However, they did not follow up with me. I re-engaged them and they stated they would need to test it again. After the second test, they said they could not reproduce my claim despite despite the initial, positive identification of the sunroof as the leak. I am worried that this will cause other, more serious problems if left untreated. The leak can occur with the car either stationary or in motion. However, the leak is more prominent when stationary. For example, my car leaks the worst when I leave it in the parking lot at work during heavy rainfall. Upon entering my car, standing water will have pooled up in the gear selector cover and drips from my rear view mirror on to the center console. I still possess the voicemail where they identified the sunroof as the source of the leak. I attached a photo of the water stains because it was not raining when I filed the complaint.
On 10/17/17 at 6:30 pm, I was driving very slowly in slow traffic in town when a man driving in back of me was looking down slightly to the right and distracted (was on his phone although he said he fell asleep) when he hit the back (rear-ended) my car. I had my seat belt on. My head and body thrusted forward and back and my head hit the lower part of the head rest hard because the head rest and seat are too tall (I'm short) and the headrest doesn't fit my head. I suffered a concussion, whiplash, and significant pain. This is the 2nd accident which was exactly the same as the 1st accident on 6/21/17 which I previously reported to you, vw of America, and dirito brothers in walnut creek. I suffered a 2nd concussion and whiplash. Both times, the other party was at fault and both parties admitted they were at fault and I did nothing wrong both times. I requested that vw recall these headrests and seats and replace them with headrests and seats that are adjustable and fit properly for short people. My request was denied despite this being a safety concern which caused my vehicle damage and my body was injured. I, am, again, respectfully requesting a recall so my headrest and seat will fit properly and I will be at reduced risk for injury when there is an accident. Both times, I filed claims with my state farm insurance CO. I received medical treatment both times.
The problem presents itself as ticking/clicking/cracking noise coming from the top of the driver's side b-pillar when the body of the car flexes, for example when driving over uneven road (even at parking lot speed). After the dealership tried to address it by replacing interior panels and applying foam, they were advised by the manufacturer that the issue is related to a weld joint, and performed adjustment to pillar seam (as listed on the service record). This failed to address the issue, so after a visit from a vw representative they tried peenig over the seam, but the noise is still present. My concern is that any issue related to a structural component of the car, such as the b-pillar to roof/door frame joint, potentially compromises the structural integrity and safety of the car.
The front hood latch and locking mechanism has a design error that makes it difficult to close and lock the hood. The hood latch and locking mechanical parts in my opinoin needs to be modified to work correctly. Car hoods need to be secured and lock properly for the safe operation of a vehicles. I am unable to driver the vehicle because the hood will not close.

Loud knock is produced when there is body flex (tight turns, speed bumps, changes in elevation) on the driver side b-pillar. Brought into auburn Volkswagen to diagnose, and was told they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. Took the vehicle to a body shop and had them reproduce the noise. Was told it is likely a bad weld from the b-pillar to the roof, and should be fixed immediately as it's a safety concern. Contacted the dealership and was told they were not able to deal with any issues concerning the body of the car. Contacted Volkswagen of America, and have been passed around between customer service agents without been given assistance.
When the temperature reaches above 80 degrees fahrenheit the drivers door and the passengers door will not latch closed properly. If you try to close the doors, they just bang against the frame and swing open. Once the temperature of the door cools down, the door will eventually latch. Sometimes I have to wait till morning to properly close them shut. The dealership is asking $600 to repair this. This is a safety issue and these doors should lock properly before driving away.

I was driving home from work today on the interstate and it sounded like a shotgun went off. My sunroof shattered. I looked up and there was a huge hole in the middle. It was about 68 degrees f, so it wasn't cold. I have a garmin dash cam so I went home and reviewed the video looking for an object coming from the sky or road just before the sound in the video. Nothing. I don't believe that anything hit the sunroof. I did not hit any potholes. The glass just exploded. I googled gti sunroof break and found someone in canada with the same story. I think vw has an issue.
I had pulled into a parking space ready to shift the car into park position when it lunged forward and hit the car parked in front of mine. When pulling into a parking space, ones foot is one the brakes, therefore I believe that this may have been a case of spontaneous acceleration. The other car, naturally, sustained damages, as well.

The paint near a bolt for engine support on this alleged new car is damaged, and bare metal is exposed. As the rust develops, the engine support may fail, and the engine block may go out of position. This can cause fatal accident. Below is the picture of the paint damage. The web address is case sensitive. Https://lh3. Googleusercontent. When I turned the key to start the car , the dash lights flickered and turned dim. It sounded like it does when the car battery was dead but smoke started to come out from under the hood. As I left to get to the phone , flames started to come out of the hood. I got to a phone as soon as I could and called 911. The car was parked down the street from our house because of a snow storm. The fire department came and put out the fire but the car was destroyed.

The hatchback edges on the side of the vehicles have a knife point that is just under six feet off the ground. Unloading the car in the garage I misjudged the clearance and suffered a painful puncture wound on top of my head. I fell to the ground and the wound bled profusely. These edges needed to be rounded off or otherwise blunted.
I was traveling on a highway in dallas. There was a 2003 Toyota tacoma two lanes to the left of me. He apparently wanted to take an exit that was rapidly coming up. He had a dresser in the bed so he asked his wife if it was clear to cut across all 5 lanes to take the exit. I was two lanes over and rear ended him. He braked when he saw me and I had little time to react, so I hit him front distributed to rear distributed. My air bags did not deploy. I've been a police officer for 17 years and a firefighter even longer and know how air bags work. Since I essentially rear ended him, I know I tripped more than one airbag sensor at a time. My air bags did not deploy. I ended up with a cardiac bruise and upper joint injuries. I called vw customer care and sent them pictures of the car. They think I went under his truck and that's why the bags did not deploy. His truck was stock with no lift kit or anything, so I would hope my bags would deploy, but they didn't. I know we now track if a vehicle's height had been altererd on accident reports in texas. I have a few pictures of the car.
Water comes to the interior of the vehicle through the gap between the lower edge of the plastic interior door panel and the metal door. This leak now occurs on the right rear door of this 2012 vw Golf. On other doors, water comes out through the purposely designed drain holes on the bottom side of the door, and thus water does not come into the interior. This incorrect water flow inside the right rear door may cause body damage and electrical hazard. When I spray low pressure water to the belt line at a self car wash bay to replicate rain, water comes out through the gap between the lower edge of the plastic interior door panel and the metal door at a rate faster than one drop per second. .
