1 Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 04/08/2021

Intermittent warning light on dash indicating, "cruise control system malfunction". The owner's manual says to have the system checked by Volkswagen. The dealer said the vehicle is operating normally. I first noticed this the day after service action code 24fx was completed on 4/8/21. I noticed this four more times since.

2 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 05/27/2019

While in the number 2 lane on the freeway, using cruise control, we approached a semi truck in the number 3 lane. We were moving more quickly than the semi truck and did not change lanes nor did the semi truck. The freeway was straight. The automatic braking system turned on and engaged the brakes when our car reaches approximately the rear axle or is next to the back middle of the semi truck. Brakes engage in the same fashion they do as if there was a hazard in front of us. To be clear, nothing at all is in front of us, just the semi truck to our right.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 04/04/2016

On manual transmission vehicles cruise control does not deactivate when depressing clutch, changing gear. Once clutch is released cruise automatically re engages. This is a huge safety liability. Vw calls it a new feature, this feature has caused a few near misses. . This feature will eventually cause an accident I've been driving manual transmission cars for over 20 years and every time the clutch is depressed cruise turns off and will only re-engage once the button is depressed.

6 Cruise Control problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 01/14/2016

In 3 separate instances, while driving at highway speeds (65-72 mph), the cruise control has disengaged, causing sudden and rapid deceleration of the vehicle. In all instances, the pavement was dry, I was not tailgating, and feet were not near the brake (I. E. I did not accidentally hit the brake). This is a dangerous scenario. Will be taking the car into dealer in a few weeks, but unsure they will be able to reproduce or diagnose the problem. Several other owners of Golfs have reported this same issue on the tdi forum.

7 Cruise Control problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 05/06/2015

Rural road in florida, cruise control set to speed limit of 45 mph. Approaching a sharp curve, I down shifted my manual transmission from 5th to 3rd to slow down to an appropriate speed of about 35 mph. When I released the clutch, and began steering into the curve, the car's cruise control re-engaged and I found myself struggling to steer around the curve at 45 mph. Exact model is Golf sportwagen tdi sel with manual transmission. Vw's own instruction video says that when the clutch pedal is depressed the cruise control dis-engages and that the driver must press the resume button for the cruise control to be re-engaged. In my 50 years of operating automobiles, every car with cruise control and a manual transmission has operated per the instructions in the vw video. Upon careful reading of the owner's manual I found the following disclaimer: "changing gears when cruise control is active . . . The cruise control reduces acceleration as soon as the clutch pedal is pressed, and automatically continue to regulate speed after a gear change. " this non-standard behavior may soon lead to people being killed.

8 Cruise Control problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 05/13/2005

Vw Golf 2001 unable to shift from park or neutral with ignition "on". Potentially dangerous. Fortunately this time car was not in a dangerous location. This is the second failure of the brake light switch (and automatic shift lock switch) in this car with only 30588 miles. Replaced at dealer. I have the failed switch and (as an engineer) can see many flaws in the design, leading to arcs and contact sticking or non-operation. Research on the internet shows that many other owners have had this problem, some over 6 times. Applicable over a range of vw models and years. Canada had a recall for some vw models. Vw should replace the switches with a better design under a lifetime warranty as a dangerous defect. My wife or one of the many others could have been trying to get off a train track when the thing locked.
