37 Equipment problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 08/18/2022

At 80. 7k miles the car began to smell heavily of gasoline and I found gasoline leaking from the back right bumper just in front of the tire. I took the car to the dealership the next day and today they've told me that it could be a number of parts but what we have on order is the evap cannister and the n80 purge valve. If this does not fix it then it is the entire gas tank, very expensive. There were no warning lamps and this issue was reproduced at the dealership. They've told me there's no recalls or warranties but I have read that many other people in the mk7 group have had this issue. Volkswagen needs to own up to their previous emissions hang-ups.

38 Equipment problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 08/04/2022

While shifting the manual transmission, the shift knob and boot came up and off the shifter. Being totally unexpected, I was temporarily shocked, surprised and confused. Luckily, I was on a country road with no other traffic around me and coasted to a stop. I realized what happened and was able to still shift the transmission and get home. Been waiting two months for the part to come in at dealership.

39 Equipment problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 07/29/2022

My airbag light came on today as I was backing out of a parking space (7/29/22 and mileage 235845), and this was after plastic creaking/cracking noises coming from my steering wheel for quite a while when I turned it. The frequency and amount of noise when I turned the wheel had increased a lot lately. This is the second time this exact thing has happened - I had to replace the clock spring in the steering wheel once before (3/19/19 at milage 154165). While I know I drive a lot, it’s mostly straight on the interstate since I live in a rural area, so I am not turning the wheel constantly. I’m hesitant about if it’s worth it to spend money on replacing it since the last time it was almost $800, and has now broken again, only 80k miles later. I know that earlier years of vws had this part recalled and I am wondering if that should have extended to 2015s - although I’m not sure what good that would do me since the replacement one I had installed at the dealer also broke.

40 Equipment problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 07/28/2022

On two occasions, warning messages appeared on the dash indicating that multiple government-mandated safety systems -- including airbags, abs, esc, and tire pressure monitoring -- were disabled. On first occasion, vehicle was traveling at approximately 30 mph. Dealer was unable to find the source of the problem. On second occasion, vehicle was traveling at approximately 65 mph on the freeway. This is an extremely serious safety problem. Key safety systems that are federally mandated fail without warning during normal vehicle operation.

41 Equipment problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 07/22/2022

When I switch the key to turn on the car it does turn on and it says starting system error on the dashboard car runs ok it’s just that it keep saying that and I think there is something wrong with the ignition switch that Volkswagen should address. Thank you!.

42 Equipment problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 07/21/2022

I am resubmitting a previous complaint as I have learned and experienced more problems with the vehicle since my initial complaint. My 2017 vw gti only has 57k miles and I have been taking it to the dealer for proper and timely maintenance. My fuel system is showing signs of failure. Based on research I have been doing online ( I could be wrong) it seems the Volkswagen Golfs have a part inside the gas tank that fails and starts causing a safety hazard. My gas tank builds up pressure and literally expels gas out from somewhere. I started finding a small pool of fuel behind my car when I park at work or at home. I have since parked my vehicle and will be taking it into the dealer for inspection and repair. I read online that the 2015 models have had a recall for a part called a “suction pump” in the gas tank. I think it is safe to assume that my 2017 is having the same issue as the 2015s. Although my year make and model has not had a recall for the unsafe issue. My car is not safe to drive currently. I cannot put gas into the tank, it throttles down and up sporadically and it literally burps and expels gas from somewhere under in the back of the vehicle and the refueling neck. Please look into this issue as I am not the only person who has experienced this. Thank you.

43 Equipment problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 05/23/2022

While driving on the freeway the car stopped accelerating and would only rev when gas pedal was pressed. I coasted to the fast lane shoulder and put on hazard lights. Chp had to stop freeway traffic to push me to the side of the freeway. Car eventually restarted and let me put into gear. I drove to auto repair store and they scanned car. Code u0103 came back: no communication with gear shift module.

44 Equipment problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 01/07/2022

Leaking coolant due to thermostat housing breaking.

45 Equipment problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 12/12/2021

The frame and track of the sun roof has developed a crack. It is available for inspection upon request. Because the frame/track developed a crack in the structural material, I can hear it rattling when I drive, which tells me it is loose. A loose sun roof structural system is not good, as driving on a freeway / highway at a higher speed could possibly cause the sun roof to become detached and fly off of the vehicle, or dislodge enough to distract the driver. Another secondary problem that has happened because of this loose, cracked sun roof track/frame, is that water has now been leaking into the car (possibly causing mold and condensation which has fogged up the windshield while driving) and slippery conditions all over the track/frame. This water drips through the overhead electrical panel, the headliner and down into the speakers. This can cause an electrical shortage in the vehicle, or shock. Water dripping into the car while driving on a rainy day on the freeway, can cause major distraction to the driver in dangerous conditions. The vehicle and sun roof issue have been inspected by the vw dealer, auto shop, and insurance. The vw dealer did tell me they have this issue often for these same models (they were fixing one as I was talking to them) and I have seen lawsuits online for this same issue. The car has never warned me about this issue, there are no warning lamps or messages pertaining to this. Nothing has ever severely impacted the car to cause this problem (it has never been in an accident). Please note, I have not used / opened / activated / operated this sun roof since this issue began back in December 2021. Car insurance has offered to pay for a new headliner, but not for sun roof repair. The lifetime warranty has declined to pay for the repair because water has been involved (even though water is a secondary issue to the initial issue of a crack developing in the sun roof track/frame under normal dry warm conditions).

46 Equipment problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 11/01/2021

We purchased our vw Golf tdi (3vw2a7au6fm047598) in January 2015 and have now had to replace the clock spring three times. The first two times were covered under the 69l2 limited warranty(see attached bills) but our car now has 128,000 miles and is considered ineligible. We do not understand why our model year was not included under the unlimited warranty extension as part of the 69l2 campaign. When a major component fails three times over a six year period, there is obviously something wrong with it that has not been addressed. Our teenage son drives the car and it is unsafe to have life-saving components like the airbag and horn fail on a regular basis.

47 Equipment problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 09/30/2021

Steering wheel started clicking when turned. Airbag light came on.

48 Equipment problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 07/09/2021

Warning lights sporatically turning on indicating failure to communicate with tpms, abs/ stabilization control (esc), airbag and front collision warning (including all other drive safe support, (blind spot and rear alert). All items stop communicating with car and say they are off. Error happens after heavy rain, leak detected around sunroof. Warning lights / issues disappear after some time. 55000 miles, 2017 vw Golf.

50 Equipment problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 05/09/2021

The gear shifter inside vehicle has a decorative aluminum trim that when you slide your hand in center cubby over time tends to separate. It creates sharp edges and I cut my hand while retrieving something from center console cubby.

55 Equipment problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 07/12/2019

Car is stalling and transmission is not shifting properly. Have had in the dealership multiple times, totaling over 5 days in shop. 4 days first time, at the dealership twice today (July 15, 2019) stall occurs after sitting in traffic or stop-go driving. When coming to a stop, will shutter and come to a stall.

56 Equipment problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Error: service vehicle. Only leave vehicle in p position. This warning light comes on intermittently while driving for only a second or two. It occurs both highway and city driving. This has been going on since November 2018. Dealer says to ignore. Internet groups indicate a common problem with 2015 vw Golf. Shifter problem that vw is not adressing. .

57 Equipment problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 06/29/2019

Sunroof spontaneously shattered with no impact while driving on a highway.

58 Equipment problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 06/03/2019

Takata recall my car has had a weird shuttering in any gear when coasting at a regular speed. I took it to one dealer and they said nothing is wrong with it you basically just don't know how to shift. Two weeks later I noticed a soft muffled hush sound that reminded me of a rock in a tire. When looking underneath the car we noticed dark liquid coating the bottom cover. We took it to a different dealer and after hoisting it up they called us and said that the flywheel had sprung loose due to faulty torque and a spring sprung into the transmission causing a hole and rupturing it. They also mentioned that this same part had been replaced back in 2014 but we were unaware . Our thought is this has been an ongoing issue and whomever replaced it the first time did not do it properly because no one and nothing should be able to understand torque the bolts at the proper pressure. However I believe it has something to do with the overall mechanics of the flywheel and transmission and clutch combination. There is something faulty and has caused this to happen. This car was bought less than a year ago.

59 Equipment problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 04/20/2019

I have a white gti rabbit with a manufacture date of 10/18. Vehicle engine stalls when coming to a stop. This occurs with the vehicle in neutral regardless of whether or not the clutch is depressed and happens during city driving. The vehicle exhibited this problem around 3000 miles and has occurred several times since. It does this every so often in an unpredictable manner and am unable to repeat it. Also noticed that the gear selector on the dash acts erratically when this happens sometimes showing 4-2 or 4-3 or 2-3 before the stall occurs. No dash lights come on. There are no check engine lights. Vehicle requires a restart by pushing the start button before driving again. Am afraid that this will happen during freeway driving.

60 Equipment problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 04/15/2019

When driving the car it was running fine and then all of a sudden died on me and would restart then died again before I could move it out of the way. Now when I start it, it dies immediately.

61 Equipment problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 04/14/2019

Panoramic sunroof leaks into the interior a frame pillars. It leaks in the rain, the snow, and even the car wash. The leak starts as a damp spot in the interior where the headliner meets the a frame pillar. The sunroof will leak if the car is stationary or moving. The leak will make its way down the pillar and across the side airbag.

62 Equipment problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 04/12/2019

Purchased 2019 gti rabbit edition 6mt. Soon after purchase, vehicle began stalling unexpectedly when coming to a stop when car is in neutral. Has happened when clutch is either depressed or not. Sometimes car has stalled when fully stopped. In this case the car starts idling roughly and shudders before stalling. Car starts up again with no warning lights illuminated. Call has stalled 6+ times since purchase. Car has also exhibited excessive vibration coming from the engine since purchase. Dealers have not really been helpful; they either deny that there is a problem or say that the wheels/tires need balancing, however balancing and replacing the tires did not fix the issue. I am positive this is related to the stalling issues. Also, the gear number indicator sometimes shows that the car is a a different gear than what is currently selected (I. E. , car is in 4th but gear indicator incorrectly shows the car is in 2nd). I have seen that other owners have these same exact issues which means that these are manufacturing defects in the vehicle. This is a safety issue because the car could stall at anytime making it harder to control or stop, especially in an emergency.

63 Equipment problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

The car stalls frequently when idle and stopped at light or other and needs to be restarted from the push start button and only has less than 1000 miles if started soon after buying it and called dealer but could not find the good time for appt.

65 Equipment problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 02/20/2019

Over time, a build-up of silicate on the shift lever micro switch contacts can make it possible to remove the key from the ignition switch without the shift lever being in the "p" park position. This makes the vehicle noncompliant with 49 cfr 571. 114 standard no. 114 theft protection and rollaway prevention. If the ignition key is removed without the shift lever being in the "p" park position, there is a risk that the vehicle may roll away, resulting in a crash that could injure people and damage property. Recall still not fixed parts supposed to be available beginning of January vw has still not released.

68 Equipment problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 10/12/2018

I was driving on the freeway and heard a loud pop like a gun shot. I looked up and it was my moon roof. It was as if it had blown out. I was not under an underpass or near any vehicles that could have thrown a rock. It happened like combustion. So random and scary! if I wouldn't have had the shade closed, I would have been covered in glass. This was an ordinary morning with temps around 60 degrees. I am shocked to see that this has been a problem for many and yet there is no safety recall. Please help.

69 Equipment problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

When I start my car in the morning the code error service vehicle.
