Rear passenger seat buckle does not latch and thus at least one seat belt cannot be used. Buckle failed on its own. No accident or other incident was done to the buckle.

Shortly after acquiring this car, an airbag light appeared on the dashboard after my sister adjusted the passenger side seat. The airbag indicator showed that it was off afterward, despite my sister being adequate weight to require the airbag. Continued problems ensued when the seat would show that it was occupied (airbag on and seatbelt chime when unbuckled, even though there was no one in the seat). Now this happens sporadically, and it is unknown whether the airbag will be operational or not whenever I start the car. Often, turning the car off then back on will allow for the airbag to show it is on for a passenger. I have seen in other locations online that this is an issue that has affected other people online with this model of car.

I got in the car this morning to head to work, I reached back to pull the seat belt forward and around my lap. Next thing I knew the belt was fully extended and would not retract at all. I had no tension left in the seat belt and it hung over me completely extended. Now I am driving with this completely loose seat belt around me, and no protection if I am in an accident.

For the past 2+ years, I will have had this car 3 years in Nov. 2019, and for the past 2 yrs+ the dealer has not found the trouble with the driver's side seatbelt sensor coming on for no reason. It comes on while driving, the ldriver's side seatbelt light comes on and the sensor starts beeping - the worst was over a half hour straight while driving home. It has happened on city streets- cannot recall it on highway driving. In the last few months the seatbelt unit was replaced- but the lights and beeping has returned. I am now thinking it may be the seat - sensor. Not the belt. I read/viewed videos that there was a short in the electrical of some people's seatbelt housing, fixed with welds. Most recently it is happening multiple times while driving. It happened 7 times while driving my car from work to the dealer, <10 miles city street drive. It has never been reproduced and I do not think any code was ever scanned. This is my first lease, and as such I only let the dealer tackle it. Still not fixed and now much, much worse, with multiple occurrences and no rhyme or reason to it.
2010 Volkswagen Golf. Consumer writes in regards to seatbelt defect with no warranty support. The consumer stated the seat belt would not retract.
I drive a 2010 vw Golf tdi. It has been used as a work vehicle just to drive back and forth for all of its life except recently and kept extremely clean on the inside. The rear seat belts have only been used for the last 3 months when my daughter moved into a toddler seat. The rear passenger seat belt is defective and will not wind back up now being unusable.
This started to occur about 2009, about 6 years ago. When I pushed up the rear seats, I discovered that the center seat belt was tight and would not release. I couldn't even push the rear seat back down because the seat belt was so extremely tight. Within a year or two later, all of the rear seat belts locked up. The rear seats are now unsafe for passengers.

Air bag light is on in vehicle because of a poor electrical connection in the driver's side seat belt clasp, which was already replaced once while vehicle was still under factory warranty, about 2yrs and 30k miles ago. The locking mechanism of the seat belt clasp itself still works, however, while the air bag light is on because of the failed electrical connection in the clasp, air bags will not deploy, which risks my and my passengers' life and safety. To replace the part, I incurred a $75 diagnostic fee from a local mechanic and purchased a new part for $161, which I will install myself to save another $75 installation fee. Total economic loss to me was $236, but could have been $311 if I didn't have the tools and time to do it myself. The old seat belt clasp will be available for inspection.

Air bag light came on. When taken in for fix it was found to be a faulty switch in the driver side seat belt buckle. It was just recently replaced and so far no further problems.
- the contact stated that there was damage to the ceiling on the front drivers side and the rear left passenger side. Also, the driver's side seat belt did work anymore.
Ditto on the "NHTSA id number: 10252376". My 2003 base model Golf's airbags were turned off (airbag light on), and the issue was one of the 3 sensors in the driver's seatbelt latch stopped working. It's been many years ago (I bought it new), and I don't remember what year that was, but I did contact vw on this, and believe I also sent an e-mail to both NHTSA & iihs on this. This is an inexcusable design (gm is having a similar issue with its ignition switch & airbags being turned off). The seatbelt latch was replaced, and has been working fine for years now. It currently has 167,000+ miles on it. It does have some positives. The front brakes have never been replaced, and didn't have to replace the rear brakes until 90,000. The clutch has never been replaced, and still works good (even with a ton of stop-n-go traffic). There should be a legal requirement that all of the airbags are always on, no matter what, when the vehicle is moving, whether or not the ignition is on, the seatbelts are latch, etc. Also, there should be a legal requirement that all rear turn signal lights must be bright orange, not red. This is a safety issue. A bright orange light stands out as a turn signal, whereas a blinking red light could be the driver tapping on the brakes. Not easy to tell when you can only see one corner of a vehicle.

I bought a new vw Golf in February 2004. At about 6:30 p. M. On 4/1, I drove over a pothole (or some bump in the road) while driving on storrow drive in boston and suddenly two airbags deployed on the driver side of my car and my seat belt appeared to recoil. The two airbags that deployed were the side airbag and the curtain airbag. I brought my car into a boston dealer/service department the following morning. After inspecting the car, the service department said there was no physical damage to the car (except of course the deployed airbags and broken seat belt), but that there was "crash data" on the car's computer. The service department went on to say that this is not a warranty situation because the car detected a crash (despite the fact that there was admittedly no damage to the car), causing the airbags to deploy.
