When the vehicle was powered off and restarted, the failure remained. The contact was a certified mechanic and stated that he used Volkswagen factory software to diagnose the vehicle. The contact found failure codes pertaining to the loss of camshaft synchronization and failure of cylinder two. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.
