On July 16, 2026, a remote over-the-air (ota) software update was initiated by Volkswagen. Prior to this update, the infotainment system functioned correctly (backup camera and other safety features are displayed on this screen. Immediately following the installation, the system module failed, rendering it unusable and multiple safety features negated by this failure. Although the vehicle is outside the standard factory warranty period, this failure is a direct result of a manufacturer-instigated remote software transmission rather than standard wear and tear. Furthermore, because this failure has disabled the backup camera, the vehicle is no longer compliant with federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 111. Other safety features have also been disabled and this faulty infotainment module has been confirmed by the service department at the Volkswagen dealership as of 17 July 2026. They noted that this is a known issue across many vehicles and platforms and has not been addressed by Volkswagen corporate at the time of writing this report.
Backup camera does not engage when vehicle is put in reverse.
