While approaching a stop light the vehicle shut off with no advance notice of any problems. The battery light came on as the vehicle was shutting off. The vehicle would not immediately restart. After six tries, in morning rush hour traffic, the vehicle finally restarted. Several vehicles had to swerve around me to keep from running in the rear of the vehicle. At least one othe incident has happened since then with the engine light coming on.
The horn on this vehicle does not operate immediately upon pressing the horn button on the steering wheel. There is always a very noticeable delay in response. I know that the horn is a safety item that has strict regulations - can this be looked into? it is apparently a trait of all 2010 vw Gti's.
The contact owns a 2007 Volkswagen Gti. Sporadically, the air bag and engine warning lights illuminated on the instrument control panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on ten occasions and they replaced the intake manifold sensors, the rear seal in the trunk, the sun roof assembly, and the seat belt position sensor. Immediately after the repairs were made, the failures recurred. The contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 12,000 and current mileage was 34,000.
(1) I hit a pothole in the rain. The tire burst out the sidewall. (2) the jack failed to support the car twice despite following the vehical's owners manual. The car fell onto the awaiting spare thus crushing the fender from inside the wheel well (3) bodyshop quote (old parts will be available including pictures).
I drive a 2004 Gti 1. 8t and for the past two years it has been in the shop for the following: defective hood latch, defective radio, defective alarm, window recall, defective battery, and numerous defective head lights, tail lights and break lights. Each time, the problem is fixed, due to the warranty, then I am told that its just defective parts. Is the whole car defective???.
I just purchased a 2000 Volkswagen Gti GLS (wvwdh21j7yw600620) for my grandson. We received two remote entry keys and one plain key. The remote key used at the dealer to show the car was used to drive this vehicle home. Upon arrival we tried the second remote entry key. The vehicle would not start. We then tried the plain key and still nothing. According to victory motors in harrisburg, pennsylvania the chip in one of the keys is defective. Now the automatic anti-theft feature is on. The vw Gti now sets in the driveway waiting to be towed 7 miles where victory motors will have to reset the chip in all the keys and do something to the vehicle. I have found stories on the internet with others having the same problem. Volkswagen should be made to contact owner that this problem could also happen to them.
In March 2006 I purchased a 2006 Volkswagen Gti. The speedometer reads 10% faster than the actual speed of the vehicle. This has been the case since I took delivery. I have verified this error using a gps and by driving a measured mile. I consider this a safety defect because I must mentally correct the speedometer reading. This is a distraction which diverts my attention from the task of driving. It is difficult to know the speed of the vehicle at a glance. Both the dealer and Volkswagen of America acknowledge the error, but claim that the error is within acceptable tolerance limits. I disagree.
Rear cup holder (located on the back of the drivers center console) is bulky. This is a nuisance and a distraction particularly if there is a rear passenger who is having trouble with while I am driving.
On March 3, 2006, I went to the metro Volkswagen to have my inspection and an oil change done. The service rep told me I had a small hole in my oil pan, so I agreed to replace the pan. The next morning when I started my car it shut off three times. Since then, my car has shut off every time I start it. If I pull off before the car completely heats up, the car shuts off in mid drive. This causes me to pull over and restart the car and hold my foot on the gas in order to keep the car from shutting down. I have noticed water in my car on the driver's side floor (back), but I thought it was condensation caused from the plastic mat I keep under the drivers side rug. I received a recall notice in the mail and took the car in on may 25, 2006 for a fuel line, and hazard switch replacement. As of Friday, June 2, 2006, I've smelled gasoline when I turned my car on, and the rug in the back (drivers side) was soaked with water. It had not rained until 3:45 pm, and I had not driven the call all day except for that morning. Saturday June 3, 2006, I opened my driver side door to discover a huge puddle on the rear floor of the driver's side and the front rug and mat soaked with brown water. It was raining slightly but there was no leak coming from the windows, or the moon roof, and the top of the car (inside) was completely dry. I also smelled gasoline again which prompted my decision to call Volkswagen. I was told by a service rep to bring the car back in on June 5 2006.
1) there is an electrical access plate at the base of both the drivers and passengers seat towards the doors. 2) when I get in and out of the car, I kick off the plastic access door. 3) this is more a nuisance, but needs to be redesigned. I will eventually have the dealer replace the door and hope it fits tighter than the original.
Safety recall uu 1999-2000 model Volkswagen golf and Gti vehicles equipped with a gasoline engine inspect fuel supply module for leaks and install connector on fuel line; replace fuel supple module if necessary. While driving home the consumer felt a bump and heard a cracking sound. The consumer then smelled gas. The electric fuel pump, line and fitting on the fuel pump cracked. Recall campaign #05v154000.
On my 2003 Gti the canister purge valve resonates and makes a knocking noise when idelling. Two dealers agree there is a knocking noise but don't offer a solution.
Vehicle rendered undriveable. Towed to dealership for repair. Scc ****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****770855****.
I have a 2002 vw Gti 337 that was purchased on 7/2/02. I had 7777 miles when a coilpack went out rendering the car undrivable. Volkswagen of America knows that this is a very common problem with their coilpacks and have not issued a recall on them. If my wife were in the car when this happened and she was left stranded on the side of the road, no telling what could have happened. Right now vw will only replace the bad coilback but not the other three (4 cyl). So driving the car is this state will only pose another risk for future problems and hazzards. Also note that there is a national backorder on these parts and I have yet to get a replacement for the one that went out at 7777 miles. Luckly I have a loaner from a friend but without that, my car would be a giant paperweight. Please force vwoa to recall these coilpacks. Everytime I'm on a road trip I worry about one of the other three going out in the middle of nowhere. And if I was lucky enough to break down near a dealer, the chances of them having a replacement is like me winning the lottery.
Widespread problem known by manufacturer- apparently only repairing as part fails. Unacceptable- should be replaced on a recall-type basis for known problem. Safety related due to sudden nature of part failure causing driver distraction. Nlm.
Pop-out cup holder broke twice. Replaced once, I havn't bothered to replace it a second time. The spring pops out of the arm that holds the cup in place. I use the cup holder every day, as most commuters do.
Vehicle stalled out and died without warning. Just before vehicle stalled engine check light illuminated. Consumer stated vehicle has stalled and died several times prior to this incident. Manufacturer will be notified.
Glove box door hinge broke. Replaced twice. I replaced the door myself the second time and found that lubricating the hydralic mechanism reduced the stress on the hinge.
