Drivers side door. Window fell suddenly, dropping into door. Already happened to passenger side door year before. The car is a 2000 vw Jetta. This sounds like a recurring problem with vw's. How does a recall happen? how many times does it take to get a recall?.
Driving along and passenger window from the up position drops into the door!!!!! the mechanic said the plastic clips that hold the window broke. The new part has aluminum clips. This is a real accident waiting to happen!!! I almost had one as a result of this happening!!!!!.
Most recently, the water pump failed. Apparently this is another common failure, which should be covered by a recall. Here is the list of other problems I have had: -both window regulators failed (covered by recall) -tensioner pulley on serpentine belt failed at 40000 miles ($400) -maf sensor at 47000 miles (covered by recall) -catalytic converter failed 50000 miles (covered by emissions recall) -alternator failed at 55000 miles ($450 - using rebuilt alternator) -water pump failed at 60,000 miles ($350 repair bill). The question is. . . What's next? I plan to sell the car within the next few months.
My drivers side power window regulator failed, causing the window to fall down into the door. This required driving home for several miles in weather approaching zero degrees. This is a very common problem with vw's, as the same thing has happened to my mom's vw beetle (1999).
I purchased a 2000 vplkswagen Jetta in the year 2002, pre-owned. I have had nothing but problems with it since I bought it, and now am trading it in, and taking a $3000 loss. Here is a list of the problems I have had in the last 2 years listed from first problems to most recent: 1. Window tray broke, window fell into the door. $300 2. Trunk latch broke, had to get replaced $50 3. Sunroof broke, would not move and needed the entire thing replaced including the motor. $1800 4. Water pump leaked out all coolant, needed to be replaced $ 600 5. Strut coil snaped in half while driving, needed to replace both sides $500 6. Lastly, (this is the point when I decided to file a complaint and trade the car in for another brand) water leaking from the electrical panel on top of inside roof. Sunroof then malfunctioned, opening when the car was started and the knob was not touched. Had to pay to disconnect power sunroof. Whatever you do, please, do not buy a vw Jetta. That is unless you want to have it continually in the shop and having to spend a lot of money on repairs.
(1) very loud bang on the driver side door (2) front driver-side window fell directly into the door panel (3) small plastic clip has to be replaced, at the same time dealer tryes to change a whole power windows assembly for $500.
Bought the car in 2000. 3 months after that I had brought the car to a carwash (handwash) no waxing was done. The next day, there were spots on the hood of my car. The clear coat had come off. I took it to the dealer in sunnyvale, CA and he said it was the carwash companies fault. They had left the car out side with wax on it. I had no proof that the car wasn't waxed, but I did not pay for it. The next problem happened in 2003. My O2 sensor went out. A little over a year later, the maf sensor went out. 5 months after that, the turbo cutoff valve went bad and 1 day after that was repaired, the drivers side window decided to drop into the door. The car is a 2000 with only 55k miles on it. It has had all oil changes and basic maintence done that is needed. This should not be happening already!.
My power window regulator went out on my 2000 vw Jetta and the window fell into the door, in looking on the internet on sites such as msn. Com I have found this to be a common problem for almost every single vw owner that has internet access.
Transmission failed. The dealer replaced the part. However, two weeks later the part failed again. The vehicle would not go into reverse. The transmission slipped and the vehicle had run into a pole at a gas station on the right front side. This problem remained the same. The engine light had come on along with the transmission problems. Other problems were: the tire pressure had to be reset on numerous occasions, rear pads, a/c was not cooling, glove box, power windows, console, power sunroof, interior trim, steering/suspension, driveability, trim electrical, sound system, and heating/cooling. The consumer did not report any damage to vehicle when she hit the pole.
Numerous window regulator issues, one total replacement. Some actions must be taken, this is very expensive and most likely an easy remedy at the factory. There should be a recall on window regulators!.
2000 Jetta (vw) 2 weeks ago my passenger side window broke and bought new regulator and had fixed. Today my drivers side window broke. 60k on vehicle and I think this is absurd. Vw should recall all units manufactured with this regulator. I will be going to dealership tommorow to see what they say.
I've had my car for four years now and this is the fourth time that the driver's/passenger's windows have come out of alignment I've already had each side replaced at least once and I cannot believe this is happening again. Each time, it costs me at least $300 to have this fixed and frankly, it's getting old. There must be some defect with the parts or otherwise, I wouldn't have to replace the motor every other day of my life.
Front window on driver's side fell into door. . . Power window switch failed to bring it back up. . . Made horrific grinding sound. . . Only 46,000 miles on car.
I thought my first new car purchase (a 2000 Jetta vr6 GLS) was a lemon. I, like many others, have experienced several problems. Problems such as: - rear cup holders broken - middle/rear seatbelt locked, cannot be used - 02 sensors both replaced since mil light kept illuminating - mas sensor replaced (and later recalled) - both front windows have fallen to the "black hole" (and later recalled; including a recall to the recall b/c they went from metal clips to plastic or vice versa) - paint peeling from inside door handles - alarm system faulty on passenger side door (dealer told me that unless the car beeps at me, the alarm is not secured. So, I must lock the door. Stand by for 15 seconds, lock the door again and this time when the car beeps, the passenger door is secured. And, furthermore, (this is good - keep reading) I was told that if I drive too close to a jea bus, their bus computer systems are run on the same channel as my Jetta's computer system and sometimes being too close to a jea bus will cause my cars computer system to scramble). Computer system can be reset, and did you know that while resetting, vw can make your car beep in different patterns? that's probably a "feature"! - center console/armrest latch broken - large spring sits underneath my passenger side front seat - seat belt no longer click, indicating locked in position (dealer told me it still works. So, now I have to push it down and then tug on it, hoping that it really is locked -- if not, I may fly out that recalled window. ) - child restrain seat locks recalled - trunk lock wouldn't stay latched - front fender separating from body of car - grinds going into second gear (manual transmission) - when car is put into 1st gear, it waits a few second before it gets enough power to fully accelerate - brake dust covers alloy wheel, in just hours of cleaning drivers wanted. . . But they're all in the dealer waiting room!.
Power window regulator on drivers window broke causing the window to fall to the bottom of the door. Unable to raise window. I own two model year 2000 vw Jettas and this is the second incidence of power window regulator failure.
While driving at any speed and with no warning driver's side window will fall into window seal, and will be hard to get it back up. Dealer notified.
When raising the passenger side window up, glass drops into door panel and will not come up. Makes loud grinding noise when pressing button to raise window. Dealership replaces window assembly and says they "goodwill" it to me with no charge - even though this was still under warranty and I should not have been charged in the first place. Dealership does not have part in stock and I have to drive with a trashbag taped where my window should be in rainy weather during my 30-mile (one-way) all highway commute to and from work. The only window I ever operate now is my driver side window and only as necessary. Very costly and dangerous window situation.
The passenger side power window fell into door frame due to regulator failure.
When opening the r/f poweer window the window made a strange sound and then the window fell to the bottom of the inside of the door and would not go up. Cannot close the window and the part is on back order. Contacted vw customer service and they said that since the car is over the milage (even though it is within the 24 month warranty) they would only partially reimburse me.
From what I have seen and heard, this is a too familiar problem with late model Volkswagens. The window made a strange clicking sound and then the window fell all of the way into the door unexpectedly. Apparently Volkswagen is aware of the problem and has re-engineered the part. If this is the case, why are they not required to issue a recall for this item and repair/replace at no cost to the owner. I would consider this to be a safety concern. What if a window failed while driving in the rain or snow?.
Vehicle was moving at approximately 30mph when I tried to roll the passenger side window down. There was a clicking noise, followed by the window dropping rapidly into the door. It would not go back up. The service department at the dealership stated that they see this often, and that the regulator cable was stripped. The cost of repair was $430, and vw of America refuses to cover this because my warranty is over. After further research, I've found that there are many customers who have experienced the same problem with their 2000 Jetta's.
Both front windows on my Jetta fell down into the door while driving down the road. The window was up and without me touching any controls it just fell into the door. Both front doors fell within 1 week of each other. I am concerned about this happening when a family member is traveling the roads of this rural community. We get snow in October that lasts through may. If we get caught out in a snow storm and the windows fall down inside the doors we are in trouble. I have checked the web and found th is to be a normal problem now being experienced in the 2000 vw Jetta. I called vw representative aaron geister, (800)822-8987 who told me that I was out of warranty so I was out of luck. I am under two years but my 75000 miles put me out of luck. I argued that this was not normal wear and tear on a vehicle. Windows should not unexpectantly fall out of any vehicle without warning. I called the lithia dealer to get my car fixed and was told it will be awhile as the regulator part is on back order. He told me that tjhere was a bunch of 2000 Jetta owners waiting for the exact same servcie. This poor design is going to get somebody killed. Vw needs to do a recall and fix the regulator not with another regulator just like the one that fails after two years but a new set up that prevents the window from sporadically falling into the door.
I tried to roll down my window and it got stuck part of the way down and when I tried to roll it back up, there was a loud crack and the window fell down in the door. I took it to a vw dealer and I was charged $565 to replace the motor and regulator. There needs the be a re-call. There are too many complaints regarding this one item.
Drivers side power front window fell into the door because of faulty power windo regulator.
The window fell in when I went to roll it down. Since then I have been in for other problems to the dealer and every time there are atleast 4-7 people waiting that had their window regulators break also.
Local vw authorized service center indicates that this problem is common on the make and model. They indicate that we should expect to have this problem again, on both doors. The repair cost $300 each time. Internet research show that some vw service centers replace the part at no cost. Ours did not.
Six months ago the rear passenger window fell into the door. Now the driver's side window has done the same. Car is used for business travel and is outside of warranty. From the volume of complaints I believe this item should be a recall.
On three occasions my driver/and or passenger side windows fell into the doors. Vw fixed them at no charge. . . After much arguing. Ever since I first bought the car (brand new), my car is down 2 quarts before the 3000 mile oil change. Vw says that this is normal. I don't think that is right.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
Replaced rear brake light 4 times; emergency flasher & turn signals fail to work randomly. Twice had rear brake pads replaced; rotors turned second time -- total cost $550. Repeated sensor failures -- knock sensor, mass air flow sensor, coolant temperature sensor; induction coil failure & vehicle imbolized. Driver mirror repaired twice; passenger p/window stuck down; driver window lock twice; seat belt cracked.
Vw knows that this is a junk window regulator, plenty of folks have this problem. It's unsafe to have window problems, especially with a new car.
My car is nightmare of failures. Cruise control light (dealer claims the car doesnt have one - but you can see it if you use a flashlight at an oblique angle) failure, abs module switch failure (according to dealer) causing cruise control to unexpectedly disengage. I also learned from other motorists that the same switch controls brake light illumination (all bulbs and other signal lights work). Fuel injection module over injected gas causing excessive pressure. Relief valve failed to open causing turbo overpressure to +120psi. Failure caused hoses to blow sending hose clamps as projectiles. This week, the front passenger side window unexpectedly dropped into the door. Dealer has literally taped the window up until a part arrives. Dealer admits to mfg design defect - no voluntary recall. No dealers will voluntarily replace clips until they fail. Volkswagen position is that they know there is a design flaw, but wont replace known bad clips until there is a failure. Window failure could cause objects (stones kicked up by tires of other cars) to hit passengers. Infant / child safety risk. Window integrity questionable in an accident if it fails when driving 15mph. Help!.
Window regulator failed 35 miles from home. Failure was sudden and rapid. If this had occurred while driving, this could have caused an accident.
Both window regulators have failed and I think its a manufacturing defect because I know another vw owner who has experienced this same failure. I tried to get it fixed at a vw dealership but they referred me to a glass shop/independent shop because of the wait-time to get it fixed. In addition the a/c failed before I bought it from the original owner and again failed 6 months after I bought it because of different ownership I could't claim the warranty coverage on the parts.
On sept 14, 2001, my wife was driving through drive in at mcdonald's. She pressed the driver window power button and the window malfunctioned. The window went down but would not go up. The dealer replace left front window regulator at no charge to me. On June 7, 2002, my wife was driving on fort benning through the security gate. The window malfunction. It went down and would go up. I took the Jetta to the dealer. I spoke with vw's customer relations office, 1. 800. 822. 8987, ref # 20166271. Since my car was 971 miles over the 12 month warranty, vw would only pay 50% and I had to pay 50%. It is my opinion that this is a manufacturer's defect. There was a lady at the dealership with the same problem.
