Power Window problems of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta - part 1

Like many other vw Jetta 01 owners, front passenger side windows keep failing to come down. Had it repaired, then happened again. Vw needs to get this taken care of.

Girlfriend got into car on Wednesday morning to go to college. She shut the door and the snow had blocked her view through the rear window. So she hit the power window button to roll down front driver side window and the window fell down into the door and would not roll back up. She took the car to motorvation motorcars to have the window taped up until it could get fixed on fri. Temperature was frigid and this was very inconvenient. This had happened once before in oct. During heavy rains. Had no idea this was an occurring prob with more than one Jetta. Got on the internet and got curious to why this had happened twice and found this website. What if an infant child was restrained in rear seat going down the interstate when this happened. Problem should be handled app. At Volkswagens expense.

2001 Jetta 4-cyl 2. 0l, driver side power window regulator has failed causing the window to get stuck in different positions. The window makes a loud jarring noise when made to go all the way up or all the way down as the window motor doesn't shut off on its own. I am the third owner of this car. The previous owner also had seen this problem before.

The window regulator went out on the front passenger window. This is the second time that this has happened. I understand that litigation was filed in August 2003 in reference to this matter.

Vw sent a letter to me that the side windows on my 2001 Jetta tdi sedan vw may fail and they would repair them when it occurred up to 7 years. They would not repair them before failure. When they failed I was on the highway doing 65 mph and the drivers window failed crashing into the inner door well. Not knowing what was going on and the loud bang in the door almost caused an accident. I brought the car to the dealer who put a fix kit on it. Now the 2 front windows they put the fix kit in bottoms out making a loud nose and when it comes up it makes a clicking noise like something hitting the glass. The dealer states this is the vw fix. I have a 2003 Jetta tdi sedan vw and it does not have this problem so I researched why. What I found out was that you can't buy the 2001 window regulators and motors from vw you can only get the update like in my 2003. The reason is that vw came up with a fix that is not proper with this fix kit. The correct fix is to replace the regulators and motors. The windows did not make noises prior to them failing and should not be doing this if the fix kit works proper.

Both windows on the driver's and passenger's door collapsed and no longer work within 2 days of each other. I have read on many similar cases on Volkswagen Jettas. It appears that vw used parts which do not have much durability when constructing the window supports.

My passenger side window stopped working. This is very upsetting as I have read on several websites that Volkswagen Jettas have a tendencey for the windows to break. I would like to know why there isn't a recall.

Passenger side window failure. We simply pulled into a parking lot, passenger pressed the button to roll down the windo, and when passenger pushed button again to raise window, it simply collapsed into the door frame.

Vw 20001 wolfsburg edition Jetta: passenger window failed to go back up. Appears that the window regulator failed and now the window is down. I will be replacing the part myself, but I know that this is a common vw problem.

Front passenger window broke. I was unable to put my window back up while I was on my way to my night job.

Front passenger power window, part failure resulting in window falling into door. Contacted nearest dealer, was informed that they are performing labor free of charge, but I must purchase the parts. If the problem is that wide spread, they should pay for the part also.

The driver's side window when rolled up made a loud popping noise. The next time I attempted to roll the window down it fell all the way into the door and didn't come back up. I feel this problem is a little ridiculous considering my car is only 2 years old.

The front driver/passenger side power window glass came off track and fell into the door. The plastic track clamps had broken and caused the window to get stuck in the open or closed position and allowed the window(s) to fall down in the door panel(s). Per bulletin, this problem has existed since 1988.

Front right window just fell to the bottom of the door after a pop sound. This is a power window system.

Window regulator failed twice leaving window stuck in down position. This is clearly a common defect in this vehicle, one that owners should not be responsible for paying out of warranty. I window stuck in the down position poses a safety hazzard in poor weather conditions, and also impacts the personal safety of the vehicle occupants.

2nd time. Now passenger window. I just got the first window fixed after a month and a half.

Known to be a defective part causing a very possible safty issue, when window comes crashing down a distraction can cause a crash and besides Volkswagen should fix these window regulators for free since they made defective parts regaurdless of warranty status.

Third failure of window regulator. Passenger side once, drivers side twice.

I have had 3 of the 4 window regulators fail on my 2001 vw, Jetta. One of which failed while driving down the highway, which poses a direct safety hazard.

Heard a clunking sound when I went to roll down driver's side window. Window would only go down, not up. Window is now all the way down inside of door and wont roll up.

I am very frustrated with my Jetta's repeated window regulator problems!!.

Window regulator failed- driver's side window fell into door- 4 weeks later still waiting to be fixed. Known problem- dangerous- window taped shut- but does not really close window- still open partially and tons of wind noise- very distracting.

Driver and passenger side front window fall out of track and down inside door. This has happened to both front windows. Volkswagen refuses to repair all four windows.

Passenger window falls down into door while rolling down the window. This first occurred in may 2001, and was fixed. Problem repeated in July 2002. Volkswagen has been notified, but a fix of this design flaw is not yet available.

First my passenger side window failed when using the auto down button. Three months later the drivers side has now failed. The car is only 1 1/2 years old.

A friend has a 1999 or 2000 Jetta & has experienced the same problem four times. The dealer says this has occurred for the past two years in Jetta models & vw has yet to rectify it. The dealer has had a steady stream of Jetta's to fix, daily. Even now, my replacement part is on estimated two week backorder. I asked an unknown to me, Jetta driver @a stopsign if he had this probelm & said one time. He reported his girlfriend's Jetta had it happen twelve(!) times, & a lawsuit was pending. Apparently the plastic piece holding the window fails in az's +100f heat. Please advise what recourse is best to pursue.

Consumer states window is stuck in the down position and has had 3 of the 4 window regulators fail. One of which failed while driving down the highway at 70 mph, which could cause a direct safety hazard. Consumer adds that service at the dealership has not been very timely and effective.

The window regulator broke on my front, passenger-side window. Based on the large number of consumer complaints as well as other information, I have reason to believe that the window regulator is defective. Vw has not issued a recall on this part and has refused to pay for the replacement of the regulator in my vehicle. I believe this is a potential safety hazard as the window regulator can suddenly fail and cause the window to drop down into the door while the vehicle is being operated. In addition to being a dangerous distraction, this would place the driver and passenger at increased risk of having an accident should this occur during a heavy downpour or snowfall.

2001 vw Jetta - numerous build issues. Excessive oil consumption - 1 quart in 1000 miles. Vehicle re-ringed at 19k. Current mileage 47k - last oil change down 2 quarts in 5ooo miles. Window regulators - recall. Shifter shaft replaced for serious vibration in 2nd and 5th gears. Both front seats feel like they aren't locked in place! diagnosed as faulty weld at time of manufacture.

Driver's side window falls out when pushing down automatic window switch while driving.

Ongoing failure of passenger side power window motors, motor was replaced on two occasions, but problem is reoccurring. Dealer and manufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further information.
