1 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2020

The driver's side window stopped working. The problem was traced back to a faulty wiring harness in the door hinge. This is a very common vw issue, and many other online complaints reference a wire harness that is too short. I repaired the severed wires with butt connectors. After the repair was completed, the airbag light came on. I inspected the whole airbag system (connectors, wiring, fuses, etc. ) to no avail. The airbag light is still illuminated on the dashboard. Again, others have complained of this same issue when fixing a vw's window (I. E. , fix the window and the airbag light illuminates). The two issues should not be connected, and this is a major safety concern for me.

2 Wiring problem

Jetta driver side door wiring harness issues creating the following problems: driver window switch inoperative, fuel door switch inoperative, door ajar light is on, door lack switch inoperative. Vehicle is parked when this problems are present. There has been technical service bulletins issued to some 2006 Jetta owners but no to everyone been affected by this problem. . Read more...

3 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2016

The driver door wiring harness is to short and in time the wires break where the wires go from the body into the door. There was a recall for the 2005 and 2004 years for this problem.

4 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

My vehicle has had previous electrical issues as they pertain to the driver side door and window and its connection to its power draw and battery. In 2014, there was an extended warranty placed on my particular vehicle for replacement and repair of the window/door motor mechanics and wiring harness. I am now experiencing recurring issues and my brand new battery's charge will not hold - often beyond 24 hours as a failure is causing a power draw to drain the car's battery.

5 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2015

Tdi engine wiring harness chafed inside the wire loom cause numerous electrical issues. Including abs, steering module, airbag, engine speed sensor, temperature gauge, and stability control. Very difficult and costly to diagnose.

6 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2014

The wiring harness in the passenger front door has broken. The windows, locks, and blinker on mirror do not work at all or will work sporadically and the airbag light in the dash turned on indicating the airbags are disabled. A mechanic confirmed it was the wiring harness and it was temporarily fixed so the windows could be rolled up to prevent any damage inside from snow and rain. I received a letter from a settlement company in regards to the wiring harness needing to be replaced. The letter states ". . The left front (driver's side) door or any wiring or connectors that needed to be replaced when replacing such wiring harness,. . . " I called the number to ask about the replacement of my wiring harness, and was told because it was the passenger door it did not meet the qualifications. I have since researched the recalls on the 2006 vw Jetta wiring harness and what I was able to find, it did not specify a particular side, but stated the Jetta's made in that year where manufactured with the wiring harnesses being to short, causing the wires to break. This is what has happened to mine. Any information regarding if I meet any guidelines to have this fixed with no cost to me would be greatly appreciated. The safety of my son and I is very important. Thank you for your time.

7 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2013

All electronic components in drivers door ceased to function. Auto door lock, driver's window, gas latch. Could not open driver's window. Apparently the orignal design of wire harness was defective in that it was 80 mm too short. Vw has issue a technical service bulletin on April 20, 2011 (v97-11-04) identifying this inherent defect. Dealer replaced driver's door wiring harness after diagnosising multiple broken wires. Vw will not reimburse car owners for repair/replacement.

8 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving at various speeds, the parking warning light illuminated intermittently. In addition, the air bag warning light illuminated and the fuel tank leaked intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. The VIN was not provided.

9 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2013

I have run into numerous issues on my car that have caused me to troubleshoot and solve these problems. Multiple times I have pulled back the abrasion protection on the wiring and found that the insulation common to the wires is crack or worn off exposing the center conductor of the wires. Many times there are numerous wires within a harness that are worn through. So far I haven't found any that are shorted out but many are very close and at high risk of causing an electrical short/fire. I am an aircraft electrician/inspector and have found the abrasion protection to be horrible inadequate. There are 2 harnesses that go to the turbo that have a hard plastic abrasion cover but nothing shielding the wire from this cover. On both of these harnesses I found that the plastic had worn a series of ridges down the entire length of wire they covered and exposed the conductor in multiple places. My right hand mirror turn signal was not working so I pulled it out and tested the bulb and found that it was good. When I pulled the rubber boot that covers the wires in the door jam I found a power wire in there that the insulation had cracked and pulled apart exposing . 150" of center conductor in multiple places. It seems that the majority of the wiring is either poor quality or just not protected causing the insulation to fail and become a major safety hazard for potential electrical shorts or fires. I have heard these cars are prone to electrical caused fires and strongly believe that something needs to be done in order to avoid more very serious problems with these cars that could cost someone their life. I have only owned this car since may of 2013 and have already repaired 4 wiring harnesses throughout the car. This is something that should never happen on a car that is only 7 years old.

10 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated the windows and doors failed to unlock, and the windows would not roll up or down. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test that indicated the failure was caused by the drivers door wiring harness. The wires were to short and caused the wiring rubber boot, door locks, and windows to fail. The dealer replaced the driver and passenger door wiring harness. The failure mileage was 76,000 and the current mileage was 83,000.

11 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2010

I got into the car and went to open the rear doors for my two children and put them in the car. They got in the car and the door open alarm continued even after the door was closed. I reopened and closed the door and it finally stopped. The next time I opened the door the windows would not go down, the locks did not work and I could not adjust the mirrors. I went to the dealership and they have said it was the wiring harness between the door and the car. A wire had broken and they ordered a replacement harness. After investigating the issue, I see their are a lot of people with the 2006 vw Jetta tdi with the same issue. I see this as a safety issue, due to the fact that in an emergency I would struggle with exiting the car with my two children. It also means an exposed wire is a regular occurrence with the vehicle.

12 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2010

I recently purchased a used, low mileage 2006 vw Jetta and soon after I noticed the headliner began to bubble, sag, and tear away from the c-pillars I knew that this was not normal for a four-year-old car and that this could quickly turn into a safety hazard if left ignored. Should the headliner continue to bubble and sag into the driver's line of sight this could become a serious motor vehicle hazard. I began to read around online and discovered, to my shock, news about the commonality of this issue to hundreds of owners. So, surely Volkswagen is already aware that this is a mass isâsue and would certainly want to take action to correct it, right? I am writing because I genuinely love this car, but feel that there is a serious motor vehicle defect within the headliner assembly, glue or the way the fabric liner was cut, possibly too short. I want to get my headliner repaired, but honestly do not feel that I should be fully responsible for low quality craftsmanship put into the headliner of a four year old vehicle. I'd like for Volkswagen to petition to have this item recalled citing the potential safe hazards it can cause due to loss of sight while driving. Also, I'd like for you to contact me in order to make the proper arrangements to have mine replaced. I am also sending this letter to Volkswagens consumer complaints department, consumer affairs, and the national highway traffic safety administration for their review. The consumer stated within one week of owning the vehicle, he noticed a vibration in the steering wheel. It was determined the rotors needed to be replaced. Soon after, the radio and window buttons began to peel as if they had been sitting out in heat. Updated ivoq 12/22/jb the consumer also stated the wiring in the driver's side door was defective. The exterior side mirror turn signals did not function properly. The wiring harness inside the boot of the driver's door showed signs of wear. The consumer stated 2 out of the 11 wires were broken, including the ground wire. Updated 06/07/11.

13 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2010

I have a 2006. 5 vw Jetta tdi which I purchased new in summer 2006. Starting in sept 2010 we have had an endless problem with door ajar sensor. While driving the dome lights and ajar light come on and off constantly. The alarm system arms itself and goes off when parked and the sensors stop working. I have had both door sensors changed along withlatch assembly to no avail , now the shop indicates it is the wiring harness. Yesterday I received a letter from vw about other wiring harness problems associated with the side impact airbag system. (service action 97u3/t3) though they don't call it a recall.

14 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2010

There is a defect within the wiring harness that causes most of the vehicle electronics to shutdown and occasionally stops the vehicle while driving. I can provide pics of the wiring issue if needed. The issue usually occurred when driving in very wet conditions. After the first time it happened, the problem grew worse as the wiring was chafed more & more over time. The Jetta tdi's should be recalled to have the harness checked & repaired before someone dies in a car crash.

15 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2010

Brittle wiring insulation located in the doors. Wiring on a 2006 vw Jetta, after 50,000 miles the use of electronics and lights on drivers door failed. Inspection of the wiring harness showed cracked wiring insulation, chaffed wiring and broken wires where the electrical harness were subject to movement from the door operation.
