Failure Date: 12/15/2023

The car has been jerking when you’re driving and sometimes it jerks forward as you’re parking it while it’s in the parked position. Then I’m driving home from work , it’s raining heavy. I get to the valaro store by my house; I put $40. 00 worth of gas in the car after work drove home parked the car the next morning it would not turn over , would not ignite at all I took it to the shop. They said the computer was fried from the rain leaking through the windshield or under the windshield. They said it’s a major problem with this model car. The mechanic said the computer could not be fixed. He sent it to the Volkswagen repair shop it can’t be fixed and to replace it cost thousands of dollars !!! I can provide an estimate of the problems and possible repairs if needed . The mechanic stated it is not worth the cost to fix the car. I did notice that there is a powertrain recall and my mechanic is also stating that the transmission is the jerking problem we’re having. . I really think these should be recalled however I needed to submit my issues and see what you final decision would be on both situations, the powertrain transmission problem and the computer burnout problem thank you so much and hope you’re having a great day.

The vehicle caught fire in the engine bay by the front driver side headlamp. The low beam of the headlight kept going off and on prompting a broken headlight or headlamp bulb signal on dash board. After replacing the bulb the issue was not resolved it continued periodically for about one month . 9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2015

I just recently bought the car not even 6 months ago, certified pre owned, I noticed about a week after having it that two of my doors do not lock at all. Also my head lights stay on 24/7 while my car in turned to the on position. When I'm on the highway the car shakes really bad when I hit 60 mph or higher. This car is a piece and I don't recommend anyone with a child to purchase this car. It is unsafe and unprofessionally designed.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2015

As I was driving the vehicle the gear shifted on its own from drive into neutral. Brought the vehicle to a stop. I placed the vehicle back into drive. I drove a short distance and the car will now only go from drive to neutral. The key is stuck in the ignition. Took it to the vw dealership and was told the gear shift box is defective but no longer covered under warranty. Contacted vw corp and opened a case with the regional case manager. Still waiting to hear from them. I was told at the dealer that it wasn't safe to drive as it is. When I asked since it's not safe to drive will they be replacing it at no cost? stated no since they have no recall under my VIN # and no longer under warranty.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

Rear driver's side lock failed with no indications that it did not work. We thought the door was locking, either via the key-fob or internal locking, but it was not and we have no idea how long this was the case before the dealer pointed it out. There is no way to lock the door manually. This left our car open for theft, and endangered a younger child we sometimes transport as the door was not able to be locked.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

Both back passenger doors no longer lock. Even with child lock on they open freely. Having children in the back seat is a huge problem as they can open the doors at any time. There is no warning the locks have failed. I've researched online and this seems to be a known issue.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

My vehicle has approximately 165k miles. Right at about 120k miles, the transmission started shifting harshly. At times, the transmission would get stuck at 3rd gear, and the transmission indicator panel lights up prnd all at once. This usually happens when driving hills, or stop and go driving. My airbag light is also on constantly. I've had the issue fixed previously, however, the issue has returned. Lastly, my passenger side door does not like all the time. I've tried to remotely and manually lock the door; however, it is not working properly.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

Car shuts off and battery light comes on immediately put on emergency flashers so I will not get hit from behind both times I have been stopped at a traffic signal I put the car in park and have been able to start the car again to get to a safe place I do not feel safe driving the car do to the fact it could stop at anytime first I took my car to my certified vw specialist he ran diagnostics kept my car for three days drove it but was unable to reproduce took my car back then again the next week same thing happened I heard a click car shut down and battery light came on this time I did not feel safe to even get it into the dealership so I called a tow truck to have it towed to the dealership. Feeling frustrated 2nd week renting a car waiting to hear from the dealership to make thing worse I bought my car new off the show room floor from ron price that dealership has since closed down I have noticed cracking if the paint on the hood vehicle has never been in an accident I was told from a body shop that repair work was done to the car probably because it was damaged in shipping and if the cost of repair is not at least 6 percent of the purchase price vw does not have to disclose to customer.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2014

My 2007 vw Jetta with 37k on it started to indicate on the dash cluster panel that the door is closed when its open. The vehicle also automatically locks the door on its own once I have exited the vehicle. I believe this is a safety issue that can lock my children inside the car, can affect other area of the car and can catch fire while on the road. This issue has been discovered on various Jetta, gti, etc and vw has done nothing about it. On 7/3/2014 @ 10am, vw of America was contacted and were not helpful and did not want to assist or stand by their product die to the warranty being expired. Open road vw of manhattan was contact for information and they confirmed that they have seen this frequently on the above mentioned models and that they estimate the jobs to be from $700 and up. This looks, sounds and is a factory defect. Please assist towards this issue.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

My vw Jettas sensor for the airbag constantly comes on when I start the car telling me that there is a problem with the airbag and it will not deploy. Problem first started back in 2008(bought the car brand new) and when I contacted vw for repair they told me that none others had this issue and they couldn't help me. When I started doing research I've found there are hundreds if not thousands of people saying the same thing about their vw airbag sensor is not working properly and that the airbag won't depoy in a crash.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2014

My back passenger door doesnt lock, the door latch is out. The diagnostic report states that evenutally my drivers door latch is going to go out as well. Two car doors do not lock leaving my car available for possible break ins. Currently can't leave vaulable things in my car since it wont lock. Car doors have been acting up, leaving certain doors to open and others not. My passenger front door wont open, and currently only the drivers door opens, this electrial issue changes often and certain doors will lock and the next day it changes again. Called manufactor informed me nothing they can do for me. Called my dealership they told me the same thing. Car currently isnt under warrenty, bought it without a warrenty. Still making payments and not having a car that will lock and let me in, is an issue.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2013

The door lock doesn't work. It does not lock all the doors which can lead to a fatality if my little children open the door by accident. For what I seen this is a manufacture defect in all these vehicles.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2013

While shopping on black Friday and intermittently since then the left rear door won't lock. Having a small child that is in the back seat, this is a safety issue for our family. It only takes one pull of the handle to open the door.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

My crash sensor's went off for no reason. There was no accident at all. This is causing an airbag fault light to be on in my car and from what I understand, the airbags will not work now if the light is on. The previous owner of my car had this same fault fixed (with only about 20,000 miles on the odo). There are numerous complaints out there about these same faults on the same cars (mkv Jetta, rabbit/gti). There needs to be a recall to fix this since it is a safety hazard!.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2012

Once the vehicle is parked, I can't remotely nor manually lock the rear driver side door. Basically, three doors will lock, but the rear driver side door remains unsecure. The alarm doesn't audible, but does activate. This problem happened many hundreds of miles ago, intermittently but has come to a point were I can't secure my vehicle is not 100 % secured.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2012

On June 29 2012 airbag indicator light came. Vehicle was taken to vw and they stated that it was the wire harness under the passenger seat. Since vehicle wa not under warranty I had to pay $375. 00 to get it repaired (or so I thought) July 17th 2013 aribag light returned. On July 22nd 2013 I took car in to vw this time they had my car for two days and diagnosed the proble to be the airbag igniter. I questioned the faft that they didnt caych that the fisrt time and they replied that the scanner didint catch it(yeah right) the service guy tells me that its $500. 00 fot the part and 8 hours of labor, ouch!!! are you kidding me that is a safety issue and should be covered regardless. I contacted vwoa and I'm still waiting for a response. I refuse to pay that money for a safety matter that is clearly a manufacuter defect. I will neve again buy vw. I'm seeking repair expense paid by vwoa and a refund for the harness since it was not the problem.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

The electric door locks on my 2007 Jetta failed to lock or unlock using the electric lock buttons in the doors or by using the remote. Only the driver's side rear door responds to any lock action. The driver's door only locks and unlocks with the key in the lock. This was not due to dead batteries in the remote control. This is a commonly reported problem (as observed by online reports by other owners) and could lead to safety concerns if a person is unable to unlock a door to exit the vehicle, or personal property concerns if a person cannot lock their door.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

A light came on the dashboard with the icon of the airbag. I looked it up and found that it was a warning light telling me that the sensors in the seat that detect someone sitting in the seat were faulty and could result in airbags not deploying in the event of an impact. Other owners of vw Jettas from 2007 and years before and after have experienced this. There has been no recall although many owners, including myself, think there should be.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2009

The contact owned a 2009 Volkswagen tiguan. The contact stated that the cooling unit air re-circulator would not shut off and would continue to run after the engine was shut off. The owners manual advised that the vehicle should not be operated with the re-circulator continuously running. The dealer replaced the fan motor and switch panel yet it did not correct the failure. The manufacturer replaced the vehicle with a 2010 Volkswagen tiguan. The contact stated once he took possession of the new vehicle, he noticed the vehicle exhibited the exact same failure. The manufacturer advised a failure did not exist in the newer vehicle and did not make any repairs. The contact disagreed with the dealer stating the owners manual stated otherwise. The failure mileage was approximately 2 miles and the current was unknown.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2007

I bought my car and since day one the car had a faulty clock. The clock runs super fast, it runs ahead of time by 5 hours in a matter of a week. I have contacted dealer and vw of America and nothing has been done; it has been 3 months now and still no repair.
