1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2025

Drove for 1. 5 hours in 70 degree weather at 55-70 mph average highway driving. There was no impact, crash, or other form of collisions. No bolts, rocks, or debris were visualized coming from the car in front of me >300 ft. The sunroof spontaneously exploded with a very loud noise then showering of glass. Passenger was cut from falling glass. Glass shards/dust/chunks were present in all seats. No warning lights, messages, or symptoms before failure. Sunroof in working mechanical condition in drive prior to event. No known external cause of failure, likely intrinsic to glass. Car not inspected by police or insurance. Vw dealership refusing to inspect window.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2024

The vehicle experienced a complete loss of communication with the abs control module, resulting in multiple warning lights and loss of abs and related safety systems. The failure is consistent with Volkswagen recall 45f2, which describes internal ground and solder failures in the abs module. Prior to total failure, the vehicle exhibited intermittent warning lights and an abs fault code (01130 – implausible signal) in 2021 but was told the car was not under recall by dealer. After the condition progressed, the module became non-communicative and no longer generated fault codes. This is consistent with internal failure preventing communication. The failure affects braking-related safety systems, including abs and stability control, and creates a potential safety risk, particularly during emergency braking or low-traction conditions. The condition has been confirmed by both a Volkswagen dealership and an independent Volkswagen/Audi specialist. A dealership diagnosis in 2025 once again confirmed that the abs pump and module had no communication and required full replacement. Independent electrical testing verified that all external wiring, power, and ground inputs were functioning properly, indicating the failure is internal to the abs module. Despite this, the manufacturer denied recall repair based on the absence of diagnostic fault codes. However, the lack of communication prevents the module from generating fault codes, creating a situation where complete failure does not qualify for recall repair. The failed abs module is still installed in the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request.

Abs module.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2022

A recall was issued for the abs software upgrade which my car was updated in 2017. That is within the 10 year timeframe. Since then, my abs light has went on and off. We kept resetting as advised by sisk automotive in hopkinsville, ky (not a vw dealer). Wyatt johnson in clarksville, TN completed the recall in 2017. In Feb 2022, the abs has failed creating ecp fault and almost every light on the dash is now on. I believe the abs should have been replaced in 2017 and the dealer just put a quick fix to say the recall was complete. I need help fixing my unsafe car that vw failed to fix in the original recall.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2022

I brought my car to the dealership not even 2 years ago. They said they fixed my abs moduler and the epc updated the software and replaced the abs moduler if they did then why is my car shutting down and causing me trouble and having issues. I just need this car fixed the correct way. They didnt fix it due to the way they went about it. I need my car fix due to my 8 year old daughter I take yo school and also taking my fiance to pt due to a terrible accident. I need answer or someone to answer why my car is acting up if they fixed it. . Thank you dawn.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2021

I was driving in clio alabama on state highway 10, when all of a sudden the epc light came on my 2009 Volkswagen Jetta s 2. 5 5cyl. . . . . About 2 miles later down the road; the engine cuts off unexpectedly while I am going 62mph down the highway, with an 18 wheeler directly behind me at the same speed. The car just quits, won't do anything, so I swerved over the side the road so I wouldn't get hit by the 18wheeler and tried to restart the car and it wouldn't do anything. I've had to tow it back to my home and I've had multiple mechanics look at it and try to discover the problem but every time they hook up a diagnostic scanner , and it throws a code, I've purchased the parts that shouldve fixed said dtc code, and rescan the car and that fault code will be gone but there'll be a new one each and every time. . It is costing too much to continue to fix it . It will turn over but it will not crank up. I don't know what else to do about it but something is just not right about this issue so I am reporting it as a safety issue because the total loss of power near about caused me to get hit by an 18wheeler at very high speeds and could've been killed. And it's also some type of an electrical issue and I am reporting it to hopefully obtain an answer to the issue, help repairing it or replacing it, or Volkswagen to repurchase the car from me and most importantly I'm reporting this so hopefully it will be able to save someone's life one day . Thanks a lot and have a great day .

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2021

Was trying to get the abs recall fixed took my vehicle into the vw for the recall they gave me a quote of 1543. 37 to replace the abs module and said it wasn't covered. So I called their 1 800 number and they basically said the same thing. But when I read your remedy it says to help correct this defect, your authorized Volkswagen dealer will update the abs control module software with improved diagnostic capability to detect insufficient pcu ground connection. Abs modules with insufficient ground connections will be replaced. The software update will take less than an hour to complete; if the abs module requires replacement, this work can take up to a full day to complete. The recall repair will be performed for you free of charge. Am I responsible for this part so that they can update it please help.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

The headliner adhesive for the vehicle has come unglued and is causing the fabric to sag and prevent a clear line of sight. This is a latent safety defect. From a reasonable search on the internet it appears that many Jetta owners have had the same issue, indicating a common manufacturing issue. The adhesive that was used is the same as the adhesive used on the remainder of the interior panels which are also coming off.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2018

My key is stuck in the ignition and my car would not turn off. The car was in park; however, the ignition switch would not turn back to the off position. It would only turn forward. My car ran for 4 hours until my husband came home from work. He had to remove the fuel pump fuse and disconnect the battery to turn the car off. The car continued to run after he disconnected the battery. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership so that they can remove the key and repair the vehicle. The dealership stated that they have never encountered this problem; however, I am reading on the internet and it appears to be a common problem with Volkswagen. Unfortunately vw won't issue a recall unless enough customers complain.

Abs recall - I just received my recall for the Jetta stating the above problem and remedy. But I don't the one paragraph in my letter above stating "please be aware that other conditions (unrelated to the issue described in this letter) may cause the abs system warning light in your vehicle to illuminate. Customers should be prepared to cover diagnostics and repair costs associated with these other, unrelated conditions". . . . Really! are you fkm! I'm supposed to trust them when they tell me. . . . "were sorry sir, but your problem is not related to the recall and the repair will cost you $650. 00, thank you" haha, Volkswagen is just trying to recoup the money they lost to the tdi scam. Never seen such a mischievous recall in my life! I have been having this problem for years now, rain or snow. If I turn the car off and back on it seams ok.

Failure Date: 05/02/2016

Randomly, most of the vehicle warning lights, check engine or malfunction indicator light, brake system, abs, traction control or esp, airbag fault, appear while I am using a brake for red light and driving on any kinds of roads. Then I feel the wheel as heavier than usual, the past (cannot turn smoothly like before). I just purchased the used vehicle on December 16, 2015. The cardealer, autonation, sold the car by advertising that's well maintenanced and all checked. However, within6 months after the purchase, those vehicle warning lights came up on the display. Autonation suggested me to go to wollswagen dealer. The mechanic at the local Volkswagen dealer gave me an estimates for the repair around 2,000 usd saying that abs system is not working and needs to be replaced by a new one. I asked a help to autonation, but the dealer said that's why Volkswagen car is known as a risky choise. The dealer appolozied me saying that he cannot help me. Is there any way to return the car to autonation or to get my car repaired by autonation?.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2015

The sun roof opened to the first tilt position without any action caused by the driver or passenger. It happened again on may 17 during a slow left turn in a shopping center. My concern is that it may be electrical in nature and may affect the door locks as well. On a previous occasion, I had difficulty opening the trunk and had to use my key to open the drivers side door.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Automatic door locks won't work causing the vehicle doors to remain locked or unlocked without repair at $400 per door. If door is stuck in locked position, passengers can not exit the vehicle in an emergency. If stuck in unlocked position, vehicle can not be locked and uninvited passengers can enter the vehicle. Both are safety hazards. Issue occurs regardless if the car is stationary or in motion.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

Goodyear eagle rsa 205/55r16. During a routine inspection and oil service on my Jetta the technicians discovered tread bubbles in 2 of my tires. I had the mechanic put both tires with bubbles on the rear for safety and I drove the car to a goodyear tire center. They inspected the tires for me and verified the bubbles in the tread. Goodyear tire center then contacted goodyear corporate for me. The tires are less than 5 years old and the car is drven about 1,000 miles per month. Goodyear said that they would olny give $20 off the cost of new tires. I still have more than half the life of the tires left. I feel like they should replace them with new tires because this was a manufacturer defect. The techs at goodyear said that the steel windings have failed and caused the air to expand the rubber in that area. Goodyear eagle rsa 205/55r16 back left tire date code 1612 back right tire date code 3711.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

When it rains the drains in the Volkswagen Jetta get clauged up. Once the drains get clauged the water comes inside the interior of the car into the entire floor of the car. The floor is then flooded with water. Their has been a previous lawsuit that was settled for the previous vw models 97-05 in 2014. When the car was sold to me no one notified me of this problem and how to prevent this problem. Now my local vw dealership wants to charge me 1000 for this problem which should not be a problem from the first place.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2014

The car began to flash the "glow plug" warning light along with a message "engine fault workshop" pulled to the side of the road and attempted to restart. Engine would crank but not turn over. Got the following failure codes: p0087, p13e3, p2196. Looks like this is a common issue and yet vw does nothing about it. Class action anyone?.

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the air sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000. Kmj.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

Like has been reported by many other owners, the drivers side rear door locking mechanism is faulty. Door intermittently locks when the lock button is pressed. Sometimes the door will lock and remain locked. When this happens the door cannot be unlocked from inside or outside the car without repeatedly trying up to 30 times in some instances. This is a major safety concern. If the door is locked and there is an accident, occupants will not be able to escape.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2013

Driving up a mountain highway, the car lost all power (even with the gas pedal to the floor). Once pulled over, the vehicle wouldn't start again. The high pressure fuel pump in the tdi failed catastrophically and sent metal shrapnel throughout the entire fuel system.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2012

Door locks began to malfunction. Locks will not lock or release with key fob or door locking mechanism. This problems was identified by the service tech at the dealership as normal and a regular replacement for model years 2006-2010.
