2009 Jetta wagon sportwagon 2. 5l se discovered broken left rear spring while rotating tires. Last lower 3/4 turn of coil spring was broken off. Presence of rust at fracture surface suggests it had been broken for some time, before 60000miles. A few weeks later, at about 61000miles heard a clunking from the right rear corner of the car. Inspection revealed last lower 3/4 turn of coil spring was broken off, broke in the same place as the left side. Owners report online that this is a common problem with the Jetta sportwagon and caused by the spring manufacturing process.

2 Rear Suspension Coil Springs problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear driver side wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the rear coil spring fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.
