5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2019

I am truly not sure. It is going into the shop tomorrow. Although, I just purchased it used, and when I park it on a hill. It makes this odd sound as if the body is going to fall apart? I smell a burning metal smell as well. It was parked on a hill so it was stationary, just not sure what it is. I know it is used but I only had it for 1 month!.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

I replaced my brakes with brand new brakes less than 6 months ago and still have all of the same issues. My brakes constantly lock, I've never been able to do a hardstop with this car for the 4 years I've owned it. I've avoided accidents by moving my steering wheel left and right to avoid other vehicles because my brakes lock pretty much every time. It scares me to drive this car with my 2 year old in the back seat. I replaced the ignition lock cylinder and the radiator on my car 3 years ago and my car still jumps when idle and although I can turn the ignition it most often fails to start on the first try. I have to turn it on twice for it to start. Often times when I'm at a stop light it sounds like my car is struggling to stay on.

7 Power Train problem

While will driving 70 mph on I-96, left front strut/coil/dampener failed , the coil spring became partially offset and separated laterally from the remaining portion of the coil. The portion of the coil offset began rubbing on the front tire sidewall. Fortunately, I was located 5-7 miles from home and my local vehicle repair shop. A dangerous and potentially very dangerous development. See attached images. .

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

2. 5 l approx. 108,000 miles. The vehicle does a hard shift from 2 to 3rd gear then from 3rd to 4th. Almost like a hard resistance then bucks. Happens when driving at a low rate of speed or on the highway.

10 Power Train problem

The lights are all crossed. The left turn signal is weaker on the driver mirror. The overhead lights seemed to be crossed. You turn one off and the passenger lights in back come on. The bluetooth stopped working. It is like it has a shirt in it. This is while driving as well as stationary in car port.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2017

Transmission went out while driving and almost caused an accident. Got car checked and needed a new transmission and transmission module. Did research of this model and model year and it's an ongoing issue with the transmission in this car. If this issue isn't taken care of it will eventually cause serious bodily injury or death. How many lives need to be in jeopardy in order for this to be resolved. My kids are very important to me and I want them to be as safe as possible. Why drive something that's not safe for me or my kids.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2015

I took my 2010 Jetta tdi in to have the ecm reprogrammed per the notice I received from volkswagon that said the egr might not be read properly. The next day my check engine light came on. I called the dealership and today I had them look at it. They are advising me that my diesel particulate filter is cracked and has been for a while and needs to be replaced. The light only came on after the reprogramming. Volkswagon knew about an issue with the ecm and now I am stuck paying almost $2000. 00 to get it fixed. There are a lot of other people having the same issue.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2014

I enjoyed this car for the first year from then on nothing but constant problems. The daul mass flywheel, the diesel particulate filter #1 at 98000 miles with a con artist service manager at lagdon vw in vernon CT. Telling me I needed another one 3 weeks later and it was my fault and not covered with vwoa standing by the dealer I took the car to a non vw repair shop and they laughed when I told them my story and had the diesel particulate filter fixed in 10 minutes with no charge. The car passed state emissions with no problem. The high pressure fuel pump went. Now with 6 payments left it needs too much to list and I may default on loan because of constant money spent on repairs. The credit union says thay may stop financing vw tdi's because of all the complaints and defaults.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2014

Purchased a 2010 Jetta sportwagen tdi in 2012. Pre-certified 2 years or 24000 miles. Had the routine maintenance done as required and suggested. August 2014, I paid $600 to have the routine maintenance done. September 2014, my car is dead. As I was driving up a hill at 55 mph my check engine light came on and I lost power. Wasn't sure I was going to make it home. Luckily I did. High pressure pump went bad, metal shavings found, clearly a design / engineering issue. I have seen several issues with this on the internet. Vehicle needs to be recalled. First estimate is 5000-6000, I have taken it to the dealer, so the service dept can tell me what is wrong. I am sure they will charge more. Worst part is I am 7000 miles over and do not qualify for the pre cert coverage anymore. Worst investment ever! vw should be ashamed to not have had due diligence and recalled for this issue. This may cost someone else their life.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2014

False neutral symptoms due to dsg mechatronic. Hansel vw dealership in santa rosa, CA stated that our VIN number was not covered by the recall. Why not? it obviously is occurring with ours just like the others that have been recalled. Nhtsa action number :pe09035 "report submitted to NHTSA on August 20, 2009, Volkswagen described a potential defect in the wiring harnesses of the dsg gearbox temperature sensors used in approximately 16,000 model year (my) 2009 and 2010 Volkswagen (eos, Jetta and gti) ". We have a 2010 vw Jetta sportwagon tdi that definitely has this defect. What was stated in that complaint happened to in heavy traffic, the abrupt shift to neutral could lead to a crash without warning. They want $2473. 63 to solve the problem.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2014

Driving on highway and all engine power was lost. Car was able to limp to shoulder. Tried to restart vechicle with no luck.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

While driving down the highway my car shifted itself into neutral. This was a very dangerous situation and my wife and two children had to cross multiple lanes of traffic and were stranded on the side of a major highway. Brought to vw and they replaced the alternator, which makes no sense. They sent my family back out with car only to have the same incident recur, they then towed back the vehicle and replaced wiring harness on automatic transmission. This is the exact issue described in recall 09v333000, but vw has stated that this particular VIN is not covered. This is an extremely dangerous issue and a formal inquiry should be established to determine if additional vins should be covered.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2014

There have been several times in the past where my Jetta didn't go into gear. Both times happened on a cold start and driving throughout the day while parked. I put the car in r and it just revs like it's in neutral. I shifted it to d or s all the same outcome; revs like it's in neutral. I have to shut the car off and turn it back on to get it to engage into gear. Check engine light then lights up. Also other issues with the transmission when I come to a stop, transmission shift rough and loud from 3-2-1 gears. Seems like the tranny is trying to figure out to shift to 1st gear for launch. Car on 04/16/2014 is at gunther vw in ft. Lauderder getting inspected for issues.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2014

Car would not move forward or backward. Had to turn off ignition, then car was fine. April 25th put car in drive to enter street from my driveway and car shot backwards. Tried three times and the same thing occurred. Husband turned off ignition and restarted car. This took care of the problem. We have an appointment with the dealership on Monday, April 28th case #[xxx]. Frankly, I don't think I will ever again be comfortable driving this car. I was very lucky this happened in my driveway and no one was behind me. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

My engine started to run louder than usual. When I took it in for a oil change I asked if they can tell me why my car was running so loud. When the oil change was done they came and told me that the reason why my car was running louder than normal was I need to replace the dual mass flywheel. My Volkswagen dealer said that I do not replace it right away it will end up breaking and ruining my whole transmission.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2013

Driving on highway on 12/15/13 and as I accelerated, I lost power and "check engine light" came on. Car fell to 50mph and I exited highway immediately, stopped the car, re-started and the car and light was still on. Showed error code g450 and the "exhaust pressure sensor 1" was replaced by dealer in January 2014. Glow plug light also came on intermittently at that time. Two months later (February, 2014), "glow plug light" came on again intermittently. Turned off car and started it again and light went out. Dealer says p0237 code means intermittent failure of "boost pressure sensor" and "sensor harness". Vw advises the car is not drivable due to unpredictable performance of turbocharger on engine performance due to failure of this sensor. The loss of power has been documented widely for this engine (pump, carbonized intake, other?), but vw has accepted no responsibility for the problem. Car is 4 years old with 48,900 miles. Repairs are approaching $1000 at this time.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2013

While driving home to panama city beach FL via the florida turnpike car the engine revved up, I had no power and the esp light on the dash came on. I had to coast to the side of the road where I put it in park. I could not put the car back in gear. I then turned the engine off and waited a few minutes. I cranked the car back up and the light was not on. Put the car in gear and proceeded on trip. After arriving at my destination, I had three more instances of the same action. I contacted my local dealer to make arrangements to bring the car in. This has been a very frightening experience, especially during highway travel (which is mostly where this car is driven). Losing power at 70 mph in congested traffic would no doubt result in multiple injuries, property damage and most likely deaths. This problem needs to be resolved on a global level with Volkswagen.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. While operating the vehicle in hot and humid weather, the vehicle stalled due to a faulty transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the gear box oil leaked out. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2013

My engine stalled unexpectedly. I was able to start the engine again but there has been frequent hesitation when finding gears.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2012

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the transmission overheat warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact moved off the roadway and restarted the vehicle, as it resumed properly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection where they advised the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The dealer also stated that while performing an inspection of the vehicle, he noticed that the wires that were connected to the alternator were burned and the fuse block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 78,000.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2012

I was driving on the highway and experienced an extreme loss of power and flashing yellow check engine light. After stopping the vehicle stalled and wouldn't restart on multiple attempts. Brought vehicle to dealer who says it needs the entire fuel system replaced, due to metal shavings in the fuel delivery system caused by a bad hpfp. Originally vw said it would be covered under warranty, but now are citing biofuel as a reason for the failure. I have used only b5 which complies with vw's standard policies but they have stated they believe the reason to be owner negligence and have a higher blend than b5. I only put in what the fuel stations tell me they have, I don't test my fuel before I put it in. This seems like a smoke and mirrors play by vw, attempting not to pay the claim and trying to have me shell out $10k for the repair. Seems pretty ridiculous for a 2year old vehicle with such low mileage.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2012

I have a 2012 vw Jetta tdi which has been acting very strange in the past 2 years. Recently it has been more often and the dealer stated that this is normal. As a result, I have noticed that when the car is put in park, it wants to keep moving and going forward with a very loud clunk!!! the car is only 3 years old, although it has 172,000 miles, it is supposed to be more reliable than this. I drive 100% highway miles, no city stop and go. This has been an issue since the car was about 1 year old. The dealer is aware of this issue and stated that there is no recall on the transmission, therefore they cannot honor a repair. In addition, there are times when the indicator where it says park, drive, sport, located on the dash board, goes blank and the vehicle stays in 1st gear and will not shift. I am very concerned and have had no support whatsoever from the dealer, who should stand behind the product sold.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2012

High pressure fuel pump failed traveling 60mph, car begins to stumble (more often then every hundred miles-now less than every 5 miles), engine almost dies out multiple times, rpm drops to near zero, check engine light turns on, hundreds of Mini metal flakes found in fuel system/fuel canister . Car driven to dealer (showed picture of metal in fuel canister). Hamilton imports (vw dealer) had initial tech on 081412 diagnosis problem as "normal for diesel fuel. " called 081512 to service manager john, left message, he replied stating metal in fuel is "normal. " on 081612 email vw of America, in regards to the problem, call from service adviser on 081712 and are looking further into the problem. Later that day, called service adviser, they ordered a complete fuel system and apologized for the initial delay and not fixing the car correctly. Received a call from the dealer, 082812, the car is ready for pickup. A complete new fuel system was installed (injectors, high pressure fuel pump(failed), fuel rail, electric fuel pump in tank, all piping).
