1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2025

When you turn on the vehicle, the abs and traction light illuminates. The light that says "brake" also illuminates and the vehicle beeps 3 times. When driving the vehicle, the red light "brake" flashes constantly, while the abs and traction control light remains illuminated but no flashes. The dealership says it's a fault abs module and hydraulic pump assembly. I researched and found a Volkswagen safety recall code: 45f2 (published March 17, 2017) that seems very applicable to my vehicle. Safety concerns include but are not limited to the following: loss of vehicle control, failure to brake properly, auto engagement of brakes not by the driver, etc. All safety concerns may cause my life or the life of another individual.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2024

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the abs, esc, and check engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the abs control module. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulics, electronic stability control (esc)), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 90,000.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2024

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle the brake light, abs and electronic stability control warning lights had remained illuminated. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were contacted regarding the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 16v913000(service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced that same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 260,000.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2023

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the brake was depressed and the abs and traction control warning lights inadvertently illuminated, and the vehicle spun out of control, nearly causing a crash with another vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with an inoperable abs hydraulic module. The contact was informed that the abs hydraulic module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that after researching, he discovered NHTSA campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2022

On certain vehicles, a fault within the antilock brake system (abs) may cause the module to fail during abs and/or electronic stability control (esc) activation. This will cause warning lights for abs, brake and the esc systems to illuminate. If this happens, the brake system related vehicle stabilizing functions (abs/esc) may not be available, increasing the risk of a loss of vehicle control and could lead to a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2022

After a hard braking situation, the abs, traction control, and brake warning lights activated. A computer scan by the dealer indicated the abs system failed and needs replacement (computer printout and repair estimate attached). There is a recall (16v-913) for the identical issue for the same year/make/model of my vehicle; however, the date of production is different.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2022

Received an abs break light flashing on my dash board. Went to the valley Volkswagen dealer in staunton, va and confirmed the abs module needs to be replaced. This is the same part that was on Volkswagen recall 45f2/45f5 abs and stability control becomes inoperative. With a warning a loss of vehicle control can increase the risk of a crash. This is a safety issue and needs to be repaired as soon as possible. I'm driving an vehicle that is unsafe to drive. Please include my VIN # in this recall. Thanks.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2021

My abs system light has been on, but I haven't had the funds to take care of it. I inherited the car after my daughter passed away, so I don't know how long it's been on. I was just told by my mechanic that there was a recall for this very issue. I'm not in a position to pay what they're asking, but it seems like I shouldn't have to since there was a recall for this. I don't know why your website says there are no recalls for my car, but I feel I fall in this category for the abs recall. I had a woman pull out in front of me and my car's system didn't work.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2021

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated while driving 50 mph, the abs warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with abs module failure. The contact was informed that the abs module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. 10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2021

The vehicle abs module failed back in nov2020 and was brought to local vw dealer and diagnosed as bad module. Fast forward to Aug 2021 and abs module failed again and bad wiring was found which is why the first module failed to begin with in my belief. Both times when the module failed was after my wife slammed on brakes hard activating the abs system which in turn caused the warning lights to come on and car go into limp mode. I tried limping the car to the dealership for repair and was almost hit by a large truck coming from behind as I had no response from the accelerator pedal. I am not sure why this particular VIN was never added to the recall list as it fits the criteria as all other vehicles experiencing this issue. We paid $2600 the first time for the repair and are now out more money to have this known problem fixed again !.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2019

The antilock brake system control unit is failing during abs or electronic stability control activation, resulting in a loss of vehicle control and esp light coming on and off randomly.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

There was a recall notice for 2010 Volkswagens for a fail in the brake lock system (abs) and mine went out on my car last year 2018. Why didn't my car qualify for the recall to get fixed from the manufacture. I'm a mother of 2 and I work plus in school. I can't afford to replace this. And I want to feel safe while driving on the road. I really need the manufacture to fix this. I love my car but it's already expensive enough with the high mileage oil change and other expenses. If my car can qualify for the recall just like the other 2010 that will be a life saver. Please help me out with this issue.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2017

2010 vw Jetta with 73k miles experienceing issues with the hydraulic pump and abs system. While in the car is in motion, engagement of the abs system causes the driver to lose control of the vehicle. When brakes are hit, car violently pulls from left to right out of lane beyond the drivers control. This issue has occurred multiple times trying to decelerate while driving on a highway in high traffic situations. Smoke from tire burn has occurred from the lose of control. Thankfully no accident occurred, but that was extremely lucky. It is an extremely dangerous condition and the car is undriveable with this issue. Nhtsa recall campaign #16v913000 issued on 12/20/16 covers this model and year vw for this exact issue, however, the VIN number identified above is not covered by the current recall. The recall needs to be expanded to cover additional 2010 model year Jetta's experiencing the same highly dangerous hydraulic abs issue.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that there was a internal leak from the motor associated with the engine, the left side low beams had shorted several times, the skid warning light illuminated and then the vehicle traction was poor so the suspension and steering was loose while braking. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic for further testing and diagnosis. The contact was excluded from 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The manufacturer was notified of the failure, indicated that there was no recall and provided no solution so the contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be repaired. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

When I approached a red light I pushed the clutch in and started to slow down. I was in the turn lane and there was an opening as I started moving feet from clutch to fuel pedal. The car lurch and came to a stop. The car had died while I was slowing down to get in the turn lane. I have called the vw dealer and they have no idea on why the car did and is still doing this. I don't feel it is safe for me or for my family, I am a firefighter and I really truly believe that the car is going cause an accident or kill us. The car has shut off on its own over twenty times in the last few months. It doesn't happen every time that the clutch is depressed, some days it doesn't do it at all. Other days it is every time or every other stop. When traveling at highways speeds the Jetta lurches like it is out of fuel even thou it has a full tank. All of the cars maintance is up to date per the dealer.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

Parking brake. In Dec 2013, my 2010 vw Jetta tdi rolled backwards with the parking brake fully engaged. It hit another stationary vehicle; thankfully there were no injuries except to the two cars. I had brought in the vehicle to the dealer in Feb 2013 with the concern that the parking brake was not secure. They said their was little adjustment to be made and it was working to specs. My vehicle had undergone it's 40k service two months prior to the most recent incident that resulted in a crash. Working up to "specs" is clearly not sufficient or safe. I would like this to be investigated.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2010

I have a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta and I noticed excessive brake dust forming on the rear wheels and occasional squeaking. I brought it to the dealers attention at my first scheduled maintenance of 10,000 miles. I was told nothing is wrong. At the next service interval,20,000 miles I was told I need new rear brakes. I know that generally, 65% of the braking is done with the front brakes, thus usually making the front brakes needing replacement 2 times before the rears. Volkswagen seems to think my claim is unjustified, although I have found many blogs online of people stating the same issues. I believe the emergency brake is too tight or there is a flaw from the factory. I also believe that this creates unsafe driving conditions, possibly for many unaware consumers, that should be made into a recall before major damage is done.

28 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2010

2010 Volkswagen Jetta tdi sedan. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance. The service consultant said the rear brakes needed to be repaired and that this was normal for this vehicle. This is not normal for any vehicle. A basic understanding of physics tells you the front brakes do the majority of decelerating a vehicle.

29 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact was reversing 5 mph from a residential driveway when the eps and malfunction indicator warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. The dealer advised there was a defect in the electrical wiring and re-routed the wiring. On a separate occasion while attempting to start the vehicle, the steering wheel locked and the contact was unable to turn the key in the ignition. After several attempts, she was able to start the vehicle. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and there were no repairs. The failure recurred three times. At a later date, while sitting idle with the brake depressed, the vehicle began to roll away. The contact then added more pressure to the brake pedal but the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle was shifted into park but to no avail. The contact then utilized the emergency brake but the vehicle continued to roll, gradually coming to a stop before lightly crashing into another vehicle. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but would not provide any assistance. The failure mileage and current mileages were approximately 4,500. Updated 11/16/10.
