Unknown Or Other problem #1

Due to materials used in 2007 Jetta, headliner falling around the light and in the rear near the back window. The headliner is literally collapsing. Its not only my vehicle that this is happining, google it and several complaints against vw regarding headliner come up.

Unknown Or Other problem #2

After starting the car and letting it warm up. I drove out of my driveway to the stop sign. Made a right turn and then a quick left. After turning the car could not go into gear, the rpms kept racing up . But the gear would not engage. Pulled into a store parking lot and drove around in circles at this low speed . Until finally the car jumped into gear and I took off. Car was diagnosed as having a bad mother board to the cars computer. It drove fine for a few days then at a stop light it jumped off again. (car was warm because I had driven a distance). Today I had the transmission flushed and changed. No improvement again. Usually the car will drive straight after it's real warm. But if I make a sharp turn the car jerks and revs up the rpms just as if it was cold. The vw folks kept misdiagnosing and giving me the wrong parts (these must be the same people that made the transmission. They've been a nightmare for assistance very unknowledgeable. I have been buying Volkswagens since1974. I have never had such a crappy piece of a car(also my first time owning a car with a automatic transmission and my last). It drives beautifully (when it's working) but has all plastic crap for parts. (while still under warranty I had most of that replaced). But to find that the transmission is faulty I demand a recall on this 2002 vw Jetta 1. 8t. I promise I'lll never buy another vw or will I let any one I know or contact through social media purchase a vw. I can actually say we have been ripped off by vw with their low standards for a car. These cars used to last forever what a way to rip off the public form for money! just like toyoto had a recall Volkswagen you need to recall this unrepairable car no and save your advertisement fees, because bad news travel faster. .

Unknown Or Other problem #3

The interior of my 2004 vw Jetta emits a very strong "crayon like" odor. Breathing this odor for a long period of time makes my throat hurt and causes discomfort when I inhale. I worry that repeatedly inhaling whatever chemical causes this will cause permanent respiratory damage.

Unknown Or Other problem #4

As I try to accelerate the gears jump erradically.

Unknown Or Other problem #5

Vehicle will not start on first 4-6 attempts after a cold snap and subsequent warm weather. Issue points to water building up in intercooler hoses. Vw has TSB posted but may not fully resolve issue. 21 11 01 / 2025464 dated may 24, 2011, titled "frozen charge air cooler ? engine will not start". It calls for installing a 1k0-198-803-b cold weather intercooler kit. . Read more...

Unknown Or Other problem #6

Attempted to start 2011 Jetta tdi with 11000 miles after it had been sitting in a parking lot for 9 hours. Temperature 45f outside. Vehicle started perfectly and then died seconds later. Attempted to start vehicle again, but would not turn over. Had a lot of trouble getting it to start and when it did it was running very rough and then would die immediately. Finally able to start vehicle and keep it running after approximately 30 minutes. Was able to drive 30+ miles home - started fine after. This is the second occurrance. This first occurred approximately 1 month ago with 8000 miles on vehicle. Outside temperature was in mid forties. Car would not start at all - kept turning over, but would not start. Glow plug light flashed intermitently. After waiting approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour the car started up fine without hesitation. Vehicle was at dealer 2 days prior to second incident, but they could not find anything. Vehicle will be returning to dealer ASAP.

Unknown Or Other problem #7

My 2002 vw Jetta glx (automatic) has severe transmission problems. When accelerating, it hesitates and then pops into gear jerking the car. This is very alarming and dangerous, especially when I am on the road with other vehicles around me. I almost had several accidents due to trying to pull out in traffic but the transmission is so unreliable and slips thereby causing me to stall in oncoming traffic. Then, today the car would not go into reverse or neutral at all. I've seen so many transmission complaints about this year's model and it is so unfair for the consumer to be responsible for this expensive repair.

Unknown Or Other problem #8

This is a re-occurance of the complaint 10425920 that was submitted by me on 17 September and is listed on this site. It has happened again. Symptomatically it is the same. While trying to gain access to the vehicle the key fob wouldn't open the doors. After gaining entry to the vehicle all locks are inoperative and the fuse is blown. The initial issue was worked on by my local vw dealer but due to the odd nature of the issue vw tech was consulted. The system fuse will only blow if I try to gain entry to the car with the key fobs. If a new fuse is installed and the sensors on the actual door handles are used the fuse will not blow. The dealer had the car for a week and vw was indesisive about what to do. Vw advised the dealership to jump out the fuse and return the vehicle to me (and they did!) until they could figure out the way ahead. I was asked to return the vehicle to the dealer a few weeks later and a complete replacement central locking control unit was installed. I am returning the car to the dealer for another attempt at solving the problem. I am quite sure that vw shouldn't be advising dealerships to jump out fuses and return vehicles to customers for use. Beyond the technical issue vw techlines behavior is alarming and it would be worth asking to see the dialog files for my issue. I will advise regarding the outcome of this next visit.

Unknown Or Other problem #9

48 hrs after driving off dealer lot, "diesel ' odor thru fan and idle at stop signs/lights, dealer notified told it would go away after broke in, continued w/o improvement, took to dealer, stated checked everything no problem, bring back may be animal or something blocking exahust (within days). Returned told seal was broke just under intake manifold, pics sent to Volkswagen,, called to check status only to be told "turbo cracked. " 2 weeks later car picked up, stated all recalls performed prior to driving off lot Nov 26,2011, still havent been provided with documentation. Concerned for safety, as well as nausea associated with odor in cabin.

Unknown Or Other problem #10

The plastic silver lining under the side windows does not fit properly. This creates a vibration/rattling noise which is annoying and is distracting to the driver. This can cause a safety issue.

Unknown Or Other problem #11

We had just arrived to our nephew's pop warner football game. When we got out of the vehicle we told our 8 year old son to stand by the car while we pulled out our other son's stroller our of the truck. Our 8 year old leaned against the driver side rear end when suddenly we heard him screech in pain. We asked what had happened he said that he felt something hot hit his leg. When we looked we noticed that he had burned his right calf and it was because the exhaust pipes stuck out too far. We tried to treat the burn ourself with burn ointment but it was not enough. The next day we took him to the emergency room to have a doctor look at it and she said that he had 3rd degree burns and that it was infected.

Unknown Or Other problem #12

We were traveling 70 mph on a highway in our 2002 Volkswagen Jetta wagon (GLS 1. 8t) when, without warning, an loud "poof" sound was heard, the car lost all power, and we smelled burning plastic. The car regained power, then a second "poof" sound was heard, and the power flickered in the car, at which point the car began filling with smoke. We rolled down the windows, pulled over to the shoulder, and evacuated the vehicle. We pulled out what belongings we could, but retreated from the car once flames appeared on the driver's side interior. Approximately 1 minute later, the entire car was engulfed in flames and was a total loss. We are thankful to have escaped with our lives. Here are the specifics of our vehicle: model:jetta trim:GLS body style:4 door wagon engine:1. 8l i4 20v mpfi dohc turbo transmission:automatic.

Unknown Or Other problem #13

The vehicle immobilizer activates, preventing the vehicle from being started and leaving driver stranded.

Unknown Or Other problem #14

Dsg mechatron unit failure: vehicle had multiple check engine light displays. The light would come on, then go off for some time and the dealer kept telling me it was probably a gas cap issue. Finally after about 4-8 times of this happening I advised the dealer I was brining it in to get looked at. Dropped the vehicle off on sept 8th and they have no idea when the part will come in. Have said it may be November 7th, but that is not guaranteed. This vehicle had changed gears while my wife was driving and almost made it uncontrollable for her and it is not safe.

Unknown Or Other problem #15

The car interior has a crayon smell most noticeable on hot days. I am concerned that I am breathing in possibly toxic fumes from the evaporation of chemicles that were used when the car was built. After typing into google only the 2 words "crayon smell" I get many many hits for vw cars that have the exact same smell as mine, so this is a problem that affects a large group of vw vehicles.

Unknown Or Other problem #16

On July 21 at approx 1730hrs while driving less than 15mph the engine shut off and had to pull over with no engine. I pulled over and the engine would not start innuetral but had to start with the engine in park. The vehicle is a 2010 vw Jetta diesel. Vehicle was checked by the vw dealer on 7/23 and no codes could be found and they ndicated nothing was wrong. Called you complaint office 8/8 and odj # 10417948.

Unknown Or Other problem #17

The car had been properly locked; the steering wheel was not turned after parking to activate the wheel lock; on re-entering the locked car, using the correct key, the problem was that the key could not be inserted into the steering column ignition key slot. Nothing had been done to damage the slot; our 2nd key was also used, but it also could not be inserted into the ignition key slot. Vw service advised they had only seen the problem once before, and the car had to be towed to the dealer 6 miles away. My reason to consider this a safety matter is that such a problem could have happened at a dangerous time (such as a zero degree day in the middle of nowhere; or a middle of the desert scenario; or when needing to get away fast --- e. G. , bringing someone to a hospital). Thanks you.

Unknown Or Other problem #18

Coilpack failure causes the car to decelerate and sputter, especially when it starts to rain. Volkswagen is aware of the problem since 2001. The internet is full of comments on this defect yet the problem continues.

Unknown Or Other problem #19

I have a vw 2009 Jetta 2. 0t wolfsburg series, and it has been happening stallings from nothing. A lot of times when I start the car, it stalls by itself from nothing and sometimes would not start again. Yesteday my wife was driving on the highway, and sudderly the car started to loose power unitl she was running at 20 milles per hour, when from nothing again. The car started running normally again. After she got home I took the car for a ride, and, one more time nothing happened. She drives the car for the most of time, but I had stalled with me, but I was able to restart the car right way. Howerver, losing power on the highway is a new event, and I think is "very dangerous". I had been at the vw dealership that I bought the car, wich is reeves imports at tampa, florida. When we took the car there for the scheduled maintenance, they were not able to find out what happened with the car. In fact, the car works perfectly, but it concerns me a lot that we have a car that can stall from nothing. I am aware that nthsa have received a lot of complains about these events, and I am pretty sure that vw knows about the problem, but it does make me worry, when nobody does nothing about that situation. What do they want happen? a event that can cause an accident with fatal victims?. I think the government has to take care that situation for the safety of the people that had purchased that vehicle.

Unknown Or Other problem #20

Noxious odor from carpet underlayment. Causes headaches and odor to be absorbed into clothing, skin, seats, etc. Vw will not acknowledge the problem, nor disclose the material used and if it is off-gassing any hazardous fumes.

Unknown Or Other problem #21

The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact crashed into the rear of another vehicle while driving 30 mph. The vehicle caught fire and the contact was able to get out of the vehicle before it exploded. The police and fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire had not been determined. The VIN was unknown. The contact owned the vehicle for a month and was not sure of the mileage.

Unknown Or Other problem #22

I own a 2011 vw Jetta which is equipped with the new intelligent crash response system (icrs) which was put into place to maintain safety during a front end collision by turning car off, unlocking doors, shutting off fuel supply, and disconnecting the battery from the alternator. I have confirmed with the sales manager at my local dealership that the sensors for this to engage are located in the front bumper and the front doors. I was struck in the rear at a speed of 60mph on an interstate and this system engaged. The result of this engagement also powered down my steering and brakes providing me no way to control my vehicle from the rear impact. My vehicle subsequently excelerated to a very high rate of speed at which time I was lunged passed approx 10 cars or 25 yards when my tie rod broken and lunged me back into traffic at which time a front side collision finally brought the vehicle to rest. After researching this system, it appears its intentions are for front end impacts and is not set to engage from a rear impact. Had I been able to steer or brake my vehicle, this loss would not have been so dramatic and serious in nature.

Unknown Or Other problem #23

Vehicle has 74,000 & the transmission failed on the highway with no prior issues or warnings. Vw of America has refused to help because it is out of warranty however I know they are having serious issues with the typtronic and many transmissions have failed between 50k-70k miles. I was told this vehicle was already recalled in austrailia.

Unknown Or Other problem #24

Vw Jetta 2009 stalls and engines dies while driving. Lost ability to steer vehicle - able to coast to side of road. Car towed to vw dealership and they have been unable to recreate the problem. Concerned if this happens on major road and loss of steering could result in accident.

Unknown Or Other problem #25

On a 40 degree day I drove the car about 1 mile. At a traffic lite it stalled. I had to keep the car in park until the light changed, then I put it in drive. When the car was initially started it didn't "seem right" - didn't seem to have power or pick up. I noticed the tachometer wasquickly bouncing between 1800 rpm down to 400rpm prior to stalling. Car had half a tank of diesel, outside weather conditions were dry.

Unknown Or Other problem #26

I purchased a 2011 vw Jetta s sedan on 1/24/2011. At approximately 1000 miles, the car began making a whistling noise from under the dash nearly all the time. I brought the car in for service on 2/16/11 and after a few days, I was told the problem was isolated to the thermal expansion valve in the ac system. This was replaced and the problem was fixed. About 2 weeks later, the sound returned. I brought the car in again on 3/29/11 and again was contacted a couple of days later. The dealer service rep told me that the vw factory tech rep looked at the car and there is nothing wrong with it. His determination is that it is operating according to specification. I contacted vw of America and they confirmed this as the outcome and that if I remain unsatisfied I could call the better business bureau auto line for resolution, which I have also done. This isn't a safety issue, but certainly represents a design flaw that vw is not willing to rectify. The car whistles nearly constantly when the ac system is at operating pressure and temperature. Additionally, the clearcoat sustained damage after less than 48 hours of exposure to bird droppings. The dealership stated there is nothing they can do and the warranty specifically excludes that damage from coverage.

Unknown Or Other problem #27

I purchased my 2010 Jetta in may of 2010. Less than one year later I have experienced power loss on four separate occasions. Each time this occurred I was coming to a stop after driving between 20-30 miles. It should be noted that there was no "check engine" light illuminated. Two days later I took it to the dealership who attempted to duplicate the problem which as I had imagined they could not.

Unknown Or Other problem #28

Hello, I am writing in hopes that you will help regarding a defect in this 2005/2006 Jetta vw model. I have completed much my research on line and it made me anxious to see many others have had the same situation. I am asking that you help in this matter. I thought it would be a good idea to contact you first. I have already lost $200 in towing cost, when my car abandoned me. Basically, I found that I could not turn the key to start the car. The key would not go in. I tried to move the steering wheel at different intervals , but no luck after an hour in a dark garage. The key just wouldn't go in. I had it towed. I struggled to get the key in once I was home and in a safe place. I managed to push the key in after 30 minutes. A week has gone by and it has happened again. The key can't go in. I had to abandon my car again. I don't have an extended warranty but that is not the issue, the warranty would not cover it from y research. I feel I am trapped with this defect that is a common problem among others. Warranty or no warranty, this is a problem. . Read more...

Unknown Or Other problem #29

From time to time, when depressing the gas pedal to accelerate (entering highway via on ramp, climbing moderate hill or grade, passing slower vehicle) there is initially no acceleration, then a sudden surge of power causing an uncontrolled acceleration.

Unknown Or Other problem #30

Hard shifting, it hard shifts and it keeps getting worse. I was told it was the valve body but Volkswagen does not want to pay for it becuase it is a few miles over the 100,000 mile warranty when I have read many things saying that Volkswagen was having problems with the valve body.

Unknown Or Other problem #31

Request for complete consumer copies re safety report on 1998 Volkswagen Jetta.

Unknown Or Other problem #32

Transmission failure. Won't shift from second to first. Or first to second. If engine is very hot it will most times but not at all if cold or warm.

Unknown Or Other problem #33

Jetta 2005. 5 sedan (automatic) hard shifted between 2nd & 3th gears, displaying shuddering and hesitation during acceleration in traffic. Since October 2010 hard shifting has continued daily and frequency of shifting hesitation issue has worsened. Hard shifting with hesitation up between 3th and 4th, and also hard shuddering downshift between 3rd and 2nd. Dealer hooked vehicle to computer on Feb 14, 2011 and stated transmission has no errors. Dealer would not test drive for longer than 4 miles, dealer stated hard shift did not occur in that 4 mile period, test was not at freeway speeds, owner was not in the vehicle. Dealer states vehicle is not eligible for valve fix. Vehicle shifting failure is hazardous and dangerous highway condition.

Unknown Or Other problem #34

Volkswagen Jetta 2006 headliner fabric failure. Separation of headliner fabric from headliner, creating a visibility obstruction. Possibly a danger to the drivers visibility. Clear manufactuers defect due to the amount of research done online. A substantial amount of owners have the same complaint. I have contacted Volkswagen directly. They have yet to initiate a mass recall on 2006 Volkswagen Jetta headliners, despite the numerous complaints brought to light by owners.

Unknown Or Other problem #35

The instrument cluster, gear indicator, odometer, radio, outside temperature, compass, mpg, speed monitor and controls all the lighting features on car has failed. According to the service manager I deal with he told me that he has seen many of these clusters fail in 2005,06 Jetta's and passat's. The cost to replace is $650+ I feel this is a known manufacturing defect that vw does not want the public to know about. I can't read my odometer or even read what gear I am in. It is a safety concern. Can you help with this. I feel sorry for all the other vw owners that have a failed instrument cluster.

Unknown Or Other problem #36

My vw drivers side window fell into the door as I was driving along the highway last year. Brought it in to the body shop and they told me they fix tons of this problem as the plastic clips that hold the window are too fragile. Now. . . Several months later my passenger door is having the same problem. The cost of the regulator to fix it (as parts are not sold separatly) has now gone up in cost $50.

Unknown Or Other problem #37

Vehicle stumbles usually within the first couple of miles of travel after starting the vehicle. Usually occurs during mild acceleration and around 30-45 mph. Vehicle does this very often. I have read much about this problem on line and have been waiting to hear about a fix for the problem. Sounds like vw has still not offered up a solution to the problem after many months so I now wish to file this complaint. I had conversation with vw in which I was told that this is a diesel "personality trait". Well I believe this personality trait may also be responsible for several occasions of stalling of the vehicle when taking off from a start. The so called personality trait can occur when you are engaging the clutch from a standing still position. If this happens it causes the vehicle to stall. This is not safe. If true however I have no way to prove it. The only proof that is repeatable is the stumbling issue.

Unknown Or Other problem #38

The automatic transmission-when shifted into d-lags for a few seconds and then the car lunges forward-transmission shifts in an odd manner-car only has 43000 miles on it-original miles-.

Unknown Or Other problem #39

2008 vw Jetta 2. 5l engine stalls and epc light illuminates.

Unknown Or Other problem #40

2010 Jetta tdi (diesel) - at less than 3,000 miles, the car began stalling when accelerating from a complete stop. This has occurred at least six times. Have to release foot from accelerator and re-apply in order to get car to move ahead; sometimes it takes multiple attempts to get the car to move. Once power is established, the car lurches forward at full power. The car currently has less than 6,500 miles. The stalling has occurred with oncoming traffic heading toward us and creates a very dangerous situation. Car has been to dealership several times for other minor issues, and is currently at dealership undergoing more research and work related to this problem. Another problem which started at around 5,000 miles was when I put the car in gear to drive, I heard a ratcheting-type of sound. This has happened at least three times. Dealer checked this out and advised no problem found.

Unknown Or Other problem #41

There is a terrible smell that my car has on the interior now. It smells of melting burnt crayons. It is worse in the summer or when I run the heat. The smell stays on my clothes and other people smell it on me. It gives me headaches. (I am not the only one). Apparently it is from the sound-proofing and firewall? I read this in a forum. The smell is something that has developed over time and did not exist when I first purchaced the vehicle, used (not new), in 2006. I have seen many other complaints in forums and possible solutions and it seems that vw should just fix the problem or maybe not create the problem in the first place. If I had known that this would happen, then I would have never purchased this car. I will never buy another vw and I have even talked someone else out of buying a vw because of this. Maybe if vw cared a little more about fixing the problems and less about fattening their wallets!.

Unknown Or Other problem #42

I own a 1998 vw Jetta gl and have had to replace the transmission twice now because, I am told, vw increased the torque on Jettas of this year by adding a 5th gear, which results in excessive wear to the reverse gear and results in several reverse gear teeth chipping, thus rendering reverse inoperable. As I said before I have had to replace my transmission twice now due to the faulty reverse gear.

Unknown Or Other problem #43

Water ingress to interior of vehicle during rain. Front and rear footwells flooded, seems to be a common complaint. View internet search under Jetta water leaks.

Unknown Or Other problem #44

Shortly after I bought car I noticed a noise coming from (sounded like) engine. I also noticed car not changing gears smoothly. Felt as if it was having a hard time shifting especially up hill, I took the car in and was told this is just how a vw shifts and sounds. I told them I did not notice it when I initially owned the car. They ran a diagnostic since now the engine light is on the windshield wipers come on at their own will, the clock looses time constantly, and the noise has got a lot worse and so has the gear shifting. The diagnostic they say showed the dual fans are both burned out. If they are burned out why are they still making a loud noise several seconds after I turn the car off? they have also told me no transmission problem exists but another dealer told me they cannot know that because the diagnostic will not pick up on a bad transmission only a totally failed one. Which the car will be out of warranty then. These cars have obvious transmission problems and electronic problems that are being ignored. After having all this problem I looked on internet and was astonished at the number of people with all the same problems as me. Slow and hard shifts, wipers, car acting as if it is stalling, clock losing time, battery going bad too quick. Brakes constantly bad. This car is just a lemon. Why will the government not do a total recall. There is tooooooo much wrong with tooooo many of them.

Unknown Or Other problem #45

Brake light switch failed and my car is stuck in park because it's impossible to shift when the brake light switch is faulty. This part has been recalled (n4), but I am forced to pay for a tow truck to get me to a dealer 20 miles away because the car is inoperable right now. Warranty is over but if it's a recall and the part in question is causing me to be stuck, why should I be the one paying for the tow?.

Unknown Or Other problem #46

The flywheel has failed and disabled the vehicle. This is an unsafe and under designed component of the drive train. The flywheel self destructed. In all my years I have never heard or experienced a flywheel self destruction on a car 2 years old with 30k miles.

Unknown Or Other problem #47

I inadvertently hit a pot hole. The pot hole was probably a little deeper than most. The driver's side-curtain airbag, the seat side airbag and the seatbelt tensioner were deployed. There was no damage to the car. There was no immediate danger to me. I did not lose control of the car even with the startling deployment of the safety systems. I was told by the guy in one of the body shops that I went to to get estimates that vws and bmws are known for their "touchy" airbag systems. I do not think that it is reasonable to have a $2700 repair bill, the inconvenience of all of the legwork to get my car fixed or the temporary non-functioning of my car's safety system just from hitting a pot hole! I am working on a claim and have not yet had the car repaired. Parts listed as being necessary to replace are: side curtain airbag, seat side airbag, seat belt/tensioner assembly, seat cover, a-pillar trim, headliner, sail panel trim, airbag sensor and airbag control module. Also, the car will need to be plugged into a computer analyzer in order that the airbag codes be reset.

Unknown Or Other problem #48

Bought a 2001 vw Jetta 1. 8t GLS wolfsburg three weeks ago. Rains hit me for the first time today and although all door seals are 100% proper, water leaks into driver's side footwells via hood latch release as best I can tell. Found the car flooded with 1-2 inches of water, soaked into carpet and carpet padding. Replacing the carpet and padding would cost around 1500 dollars. Fixing the obvious defect in drainage will probably cost about 300 from reading up on this issue. This is a documented issue with vws. . Read more...

Unknown Or Other problem #49

I have had this problem and from what I have read on forums online which is quit disturbing hundreds of other people have as well. There is water that forms on both the front passenger floor and sometimes the rear floor during rains. It is supposedly clogged drains. Shouldn't these drains be big enough to handle the flow of debris and water. It has happened in a lot of different models of vw according to the forums. And I am under a 2 year vw warranty but supposedly this isn't' covered according to the dealer. This could have ruined electronic stuff in my car or could as it gets wet. There was nothing about this in the manual or anything I had to find it out online.

The contact owns a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta. When the contact opened the vehicle door, the passenger compartment smelled like melted crayons. The contact believed that the smell originated from the carpeting and the soundproofing material in the door and throughout the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the technician was unable to determine the cause of the odor. No repairs were made at that time. The vehicle was taken to another dealer and they kept the vehicle for a week and washed the coils; however, they too could not locate the source of the smell. The current mileage was 68,800 and failure mileage was 65,000.

My clock runs super fast. . . It runs ahead of time by hours in a matter of 3 days.

Unknown Or Other problem #52

I have had nothing but issues with my 2001 Jetta. I have replaced all the wheel bearings and the front bearing twice. I have also had to replace the engine coils twice on this car. Now in the last 2-3 weeks the clear coat has started to peel off the car. The paint is not coming off just the clear coat. I called the vw care center and they ran me around having me take the car to a vw body shop, and having the service manager look at it and neither one of them could tell me why the clear coat was peeling. They both did respond by saying the could be sure but in may have been over baked at the factory after it was painted but of course nobody want to admit that because then vw would be liable to fix it. So in calling the vw care center back the pretty much told me the car was 5 year old and it wasn't their problem any more but mine. Great customer service. I've owned other cars and never had a problem with the clear coat. Granted they were not vw cars. I recommend not to buy a vw of any kind because this company will not stand by their fault. I mean 5 years old that the clear coat is peeling off. That isn't right. Thanks for nothing vw. Don't buy a vw.

Unknown Or Other problem #53

Continuous leaking of water into interior of car from currently undetermined source(s) causing mold/mildew problems. Occurs during/after rain events.

Unknown Or Other problem #54

This entire scenario is unacceptable for a car, I had hoped to keep, as I am told that vw's can well near to the 200,000 miles plus. I am told they are reliable and being on the road myself, that had been a point of comfort when I purchased the vehicle. Being of limited income capacity, I thought I made a wise investment to carry me for many years without a car payment. I am scared to death now that something drastic could happen because of this situation, be it a break down on a late evening, dark stretch of road or greater further damage to the vehicle as well as me personally. Mr. Witter, this is a major problem I want to believe you are not aware of, because a ceo of a company who purports service and a quality product would investigate and resolve such a large issue, in all cases, but most especially in warranty cases. There needs to be a major recall or someone will be injured or killed in an engine failure incident. You may end up finding yourselves in a class action suit. I have a 06' Jetta it has 10,000 miles on it and has had several problems. 1. Stero broke after 2 mo. And 6 cd's were stuck in damaged cd player and I still have not recieved them back like I was told after 4 months of being fixed. 2. Paint was peeling off front bumper, was repaired. 3. Back center console would not stay in place. 4. Steering wheel makes sqeaking noise when turned to the right. 5. Hazard button fell into dash. 6. Paint is now peeling again. 7. Chrome on wheel is peeling. 8. A brand new transmission had to be put in after 3 attempts of fixing it vw tech support told the valencia service department to just replace it. 9. When replacing the transmission the service department noticed that the drive shaft which is holding the axel spinndeles and wheels altogether to the steering wheel. The bolt was stripped and tech support said it was a factory malfunction and unsafe to drive unless fixed . We came to find out the squeaking noise from the steering wheel was due to this problem.

2001 Jetta vr6 driver seat rocks because of broken gears. The dealer would not repair the seat free of charge because the vehicle was out of warranty. The dealer determined that there is a bad gear and it will cost over $700. To repair. The consumer considers this a safety issue and believes this may affect the proper operation of the side mounted air bags. The glove compartment also broke.

To whom it may concern: my name is john b. Myers. I own a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta tdi that I purchased new on 3/10/03 from autohaus of lancaster in lancaster, PA. It now has 56,700 miles on it. (mostly highway) while driving on 6/21/05, I went to apply the brakes and the brakes got mushy and then grabbed and the pedal went to the floor in a sudden stop. As it was stopping you heard a sound like the vehicle now had air brakes. I depressed the pedal again the brakes let up. I was nearly rear ended by a truck the first time it happened. I pulled off the road and called the garage. It turned out to be a brake booster. Prior to this problem, while the vehicle was still under warranty at 48,000 miles, I had the vehicle in for service at the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. It was in because several times I applied the brakes in the snow and the tires locked up. This vehicle has anti-lock brakes. At this time the anti-lock brakes ã‚did notã‚쳜 work. This happened several times. The dealership found no problems. They checked it and said all was ok. It happened again about a week after I got it out of the shop. My current mechanic (roberts automotive) who specializes in Volkswagens mentioned that he believes that two problems are very likely the same problem. The mechanic (pat roberts @ roberts automotive) also told me that he called the local dealership (autohaus of lancaster, PA) for the part, and he was told they replaced 8 of these brake boosters in the last two years. I also talked to the service manager at autohaus. Dave told me they have had several brake boosters go bad on the tdi models. The vehicle is now in the hands of autohaus. It sounds to me like there is a problem with quality and workmanship here. This is a definite safety issue. By sheer luck I was not hit by that truck. I will be sending a similar letter to Volkswagen of America with my complaint. Thank you for your cooperation. Regards, john b. Myers.

September 2002 - leased 2002 vw Jetta 1. 8t. July 2003 - check engine light came on, ignition coils had to be replaced per recall. November 2003 - plumes of black smoke came out of tailpipe - they determined the oxygen sensor needed replacing. November 2003 - (a day later) smoke still coming out of tailpipe, they determined there was oil in the turbo, they had to remove and install new turbo charger and there was an oil leak, they had to remove and install oil line. November 2003- car making whoosing noise, had to rescure loose intake hose. May 2004 - replace breaklight switch per recall. July 2004 - drivers side window fell - had to have both windows and clamps replaced per recall. (if this had happened after hours, my car could have easily been vandilized, fortunately it was during the day and I was near the dealer so they were able to get them wedged shut before they could get the car in to be fixed. ) July 2004 (a day later) - battery died, got jumped and was towed to shop, it was determined I needed a new battery. No problems for almost a year, thought I was homefree. . . May 2005 - clacking noise in engine, sludge on dipstick and in oil fill cap. No oil light or check engine light ever came on. Had to also have hazard switch replaced per recall. I am currently waiting to see if they will cover the repairs under my warranty. My car needs to have the oil pan removed to see if there is any further damage. I was never told to you use synethic oil in my car and that apparently is the cause of the sludge problem. From looking online, it seems many more people than just myself have had this problem. Vw needs to recall this.

Auto: 2004 Jetta GLS 1. 8t on 4/20/2005, the dealership "riverbank motors" in stamford CT had to retorque turbo to exh manifold bolts. Car was returned fixed. After road test. On 7/1 2005 the front end exhaust diconnected and had to be towed to the dealership becuase it was undrivable. All warrantied. After being told numerous stories and misscommunications the service dept informed us that this time the bolts were stripped and the entire turbo unit needed to be replaced. Brought the car back for the 2nd time since the bolts were only temporarily tightened. The dealer is replacing the turbo unit under warranty but cannot explain why or how the bolts were stripped. "your guess is as good as mine" was the answer I received from the service director. Fortunately for me all warranty!!!! car is 1 year old.

I bought the car in August 2003, I noticed a repair docket from previous owner for left lower ball joint and left tie rod assemble w front end alignment on 5/29/03 at 34383 miles. I had a lot of noise under the engine. Vw capistrano checked it out and said it was driver side ball joint. I bought car from a Ford dealer who did not want anything to do with it. Finally, vw capistrano forced their hand and processed it through my then current warranty. At the time, I had 45k miles on the car. I thought it shocking that a car so young should have such a major problem (for the second time). When I picked car up, a couple of days later, I heard a loud crunching noise in the front left hand side of the motor or wheel. I thought nothing of it, drove it another 5000 miles, had to replace 4 tires, and asked the tire tech to check it out. He said it was the steering knuckle and it was in bad shape. I contacted vw who said, bad luck, it's only covered for 24k miles or 2years. I again am shocked, firstly because that's impossible one of these should go out so early, added to that, if the ball joint was replaced, then isn't the steering knuckle, moved in some way shape or form, so there should be some sort of recourse. This car is a lemon, however, CA law states it isn't. I was ripped off by theodore robbins in costa mesa and wouldn't recommend anyone buy from them, they were suspect from day one once I drove my car from their lot. Also, the back right seat belt is fixed to the seat and is unusable, I complained it was dangerous, Ford said too bad, you bought it that way fix it. Since then my horn has gone out because the car 'lost' it's under wheel cover and water got into the horn. This car reportedly had a 100 point inspection, which I believe to be not true. The radio has never worked a day, it's always 'fuzzy'.

My air conditioner went out on my 2000 vw Jetta. I figured it was something simple. I took it in to the dealership and they said that the compressor needed to be replaced. They said it was going to cost $1,400. 00+ to fix it! I don't understand how something this major could happen on a car that is only 3 years old!.

Unknown Or Other problem #69

I bought my car at the end of November. Drove it off the lot with 9 miles on the vehicle. At the time of breakdown on July 25, 2003, the car had 10,900 miles on it. The current mileage on it now is 13,000 July 25th was a very hot day. I believe it was up to 110 degrees that day. I had noticed my car running at a substantial lower power than usual, but I assumed it was because of the heat and that I had my air conditioning on high. I had to do some errands in town then I headed home, which is about 30 minutes away from the tri-cities, at this time I did notice loss of power going up the on-ramp to the interstate, but still did not think too much of the fact. I was half way home when I noticed that my car was losing even more power, the cruise quit and my speedometer went from 75 to 50 mph and that is when I noticed that my heat gauge was extremely high. I also found it odd that the inside of my car had not cooled off, but was getting warmer. I headed towards the off-ramp and as I was down shifting and applying the breaks, my brake pedal made ;puffy-popping noise and then the brake pedal collapsed to the floor. I put the vehicle in neutral and pumped the brakes to get the vehicle to stop, when the vehicle stopped, I smelled heat, or like something burning. I thought it was a fire around town. Pulling away from the off-ramp, I could not get any pickup speed with my car. The car felt like it was pushing to go forward and also pulling itself back at the same time, as the vehicle tried to pick up speed, it would pull back and forth. The gas pedal was all the way to the floor and I couldn't get any speed. I could only shift into second gear and the vehicle could only maintain 15 mph. As all of this was happening, I was turning off everything I thought took power, air conditioner was the first thing off when I started noticing the car overheating and losing power, then the radio, these did not help.

I purchased a new 2001 tdi Jetta. I have had three mass air sensors replaced, two of which were covered under my extended warrenty at approximately 37,000 miles, this last one was not. Vw refused to assist with the repair. Also, a dealer previously told me back in August 2002 that I needed $700. 00 worth of glow plug sensors and glow plugs. I had them replace the sensor for $400. 00. They did not have the glow plugs in stock. Incidently my car started every time this winter in the freezing cold. It turns out that they were not bad after all and that I needed a glow plug harness for $118. 00. , which I found out last week when it broke down on me again. If I had replaced the plugs I would have wasted another $300. 00. Last week my car displayed the same symptoms as it did when my mass air sensor failed the first two times. I took it to the first dealer that I could get in to and they told me needed to clean my intake mainfold, replace the fuel filter, air filter, glow plug harness and mass air sensor for $1200. 00. I understand that they have to vw has to replace greater than 50% of their mass air sensors. Why are they not recalled. I drive 100 miles to work each way and this car has been an expensive let down. I have no faith in the vw company and once they get your money they do not seem to care at all. The car is unsafe. I will continue to pursue them until I get some resolution.

I made more than several attempts to have the repairs done at lithia vw in reno, nv; and the only repairs half way done was the secondary air injection valve and hoses, but not the sai pump as well as the tumbler of the ignition. This is a lemon from day one and I have several proof of the problem even from dmv of nevada in their dtc's which is the diagnostic trouble code descrition of p0411-secondary air injection system!!!!! no one will help me, and I bought the car to enjoy and to not worry of breaking down, but now. . . . . Rear brakes were sqeualing for months. Took into dealership 5 times and they could not duplicate noise. Finally rear brakes went all together and had them replaced at another dealership. Dealer said they should not have gone after just over 30,000 miles so Volkswagen covered half of costs. One week later picked up car as I was driving home malfunction indication light came on. Took into dealership again. All three oxygen sensors had blown. Day after picking up from dealership passenger window fell into door and is currently back in being fixed. I know these are all common problems with 1999 Jetta. Vw was somewhat helpful on cost but will do nothing now because they "have already been too kind". This car is dangerous and I do not feel comfortable driving it anymore. Now I have to cover the cost of an early lease termination for fear of injury or more $ for damage repairs.

All work being done at dealership is at manufacturer's expense, however, this car is a major inconvenience due to unreliability. Electrical problems aren't solved with replaced wiring harnesses, unsafe door hinges and window regulators make for hazardous driving conditions, airbag sensor problems, and quick to wear out rear brakes are all very dangerous defects for a new car owner to suffer with. Approximately 3 months after purchasing my 2001 Jetta, I noticed a crayon/wax smell throughout the interior of the car. Every one of my passengers has commented on the pungency of the crayon smell. A couple months later, I brought my car in to be serviced and notified the dealer of this smell, and he responded that this was the "standard Volkswagen smell". Other subsequent dealerships have claimed that they have never even heard of this smell before. On hot days, the smell becomes grossly pungent and has caused me and my passengers headaches and nausea. The smell even stays in my clothes for days. I am afraid whether this smell is toxic.

The vehicle has been seen by mechanics from two different dealorships on five occasions due to the check engine light to date. On the fourth trip to the shop it was evaluated by the mechanics as having defective gas tank that had a slow leak. On this occasion the auto was kept for 1 week for repairs. Here we are a week later and the light is back on and it's back in the shop again. Meanwhile I am on probation at my new job and am having to take considerable time off due to these repairs. I am still on probation at this job and I have also missed out on the opportunity of overtime because of continual trips to the dealors shops. I have only made three payments on the car to date and I am paying for something that is in the shop as much as it is in the driveway. Aside from the fact that I have reached the point where I am afraid to drive it for I fear it could possibly be a deathtrap! I am not sure about the belt question that are within this form.

This car has literally come unscrewed since I purchased it 2. 5 years ago-parts inside and out! most recently the axle "came unscrewed" for no reason and the bolts snapped. The windows have malfunctioned and the rear suspension had to be screwed back together shortly after I bought it. The plastic covering underneath also fell off for no reason-also while I was driving. The windshield wipers have come unscrewed twice and ceased to function once on the highway at high speed during a rain storm. The glove compartment and cup holders have all fallen out. All the service department in san antonio could say was that I did not know how to manage car. I didn't know I had to take a class in opening the gas cover. Oddly enough, most of these things started to break after my two year warranty expired. All they had to say was that "when it rains it pours". I would never recommend this car to anyone.

This car was purchased new in July 2000. It is the newly redesigned Jetta. Since it's purchase the car has been in the shop 9 times for water/air leaks, twice for failed drivers side front suspension steering failure, namely the shock, bearing, spacer, retainer (struts). In addition several pieces of the inside molding have detached. One of the largest safety issues for me, other than the strut, is the poorly designed floor mats which pop loose, slip forward , and catch the gas petal causing accerlaration. The air conditioner has molded over twice. I have informed both the seller and the manufacturing of my complaints and have demanded a refund or a lemon law take back. I am not sure what to do but feel vw hasn't been honest about all the problems the "new" vw has had. I just wanted to file this complaint in case other owners out there are experienceing the same problems I am and have not received any help from vw also.

Each electrical problem was annoying for a brand new car but they were fixed. My concern is the oil burning for no apparent reason. No one at the dealership took me seriously until I threatened them with legal action but my car is still burning oil. I can't seem to make anyone understand that a car only one year old should not consume oil like this car is doing now. Twice I have been stranded with my 9 month old son in the cold weather because the red warning light for low oil has come on and both times I had no oil in the engine. There is obviuosly something wrong with this car but the dealer keeps telling me that their mechanics say there is nothing wrong.

This car has been a pain in the a-- almost since purchase. The most serious problems have involved what seems to be defective wiring with respect to the electric windows. These have been repaired 3 times since the first incidence cited above,to the tune of $250, the last time being 6 months ago. Now I am told that it needs a new motor assembly to the tune of $650 parts and labor! other assorted door electrical problems. Other problems have been: door moldings falling off (this must be an inherent problem with '98 Jettas, because I've noticed that most of those that I see on the road have missing moldings). Both front tires blew out within 2 weeks of each other after an inappropiately short usage. Much lower gas mileage that originally promised. Most of these problems started well within warranty.

The original transmission was finally replaced late fall of 2000 (replaced with a brand new one). This transmission completely failed in Jan. 2001 and was again replaced with a completely new transmission. Now in March of 2001 engine check light is again lighting up and the car does not shift right. Vw was notified, but does not want to do anything about it while it is under warranty. We offered to take blue book value as trade in on a new Jetta. My concern is what happens if the transmission fails at highway speeds?.
