1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2023

While driving the vehicle, suddenly and without warning it downshifted, went into limp mode and became stuck in second gear. Fortunately, I was driving on a secondary road with little traffic. Had I been on a major road or highway, its likely I would have been rear ended resulting in injury/death. I have taken vehicle to dealership where it has been confirmed it is the dsg transmission caused by a faulty mechatronics unit. I am being told the entire transmission needs to be replaced. Had vw recalled and fixed the problem earlier, I would not need a new transmission now. Vw is refusing to pay for cost to replace it. After speaking with vw service representatives and mechanics, it is well known by vw this could happen. There have been recalls in other countries - australia, singapore, japan, china, etc. To replace faulty unit/transmission because it caused deaths. Vw only did an extended warranty for cars in the USA. My vehicle is beyond that warranty.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2010

During the cold winter months in nh. My 2009 vw Jetta Sportwagen tdi has exhibited a engine stumble problem when it is started. The car will start but run rough and abruptly stall. It takes on average of 5 starts before the engine will stay running in a smooth manner. Most of the events have been after driving more than 30 miles and parking it overnight in a non-heated garage at 44f. One occurrence was in my work parking lot after sitting 8hrs in 30f weather. This problem has occurred a total of 10 times. The problem occurs about once a week. Most recently it started and didn't run rough until I had pulled out on to the road. The engine started to run rough and I had to pull off to the side. The car had to be shutoff and restarted before it ran smooth. The outside temperature was 10f. The car has been to vw service twice. The car doesn't trigger a code for vw to diagnose, but the problem is very real. Vw doesn't know what is wrong and no repairs have been made. The car could leave my family stranded in cold conditions or possibly hit while the car is on the side of the road.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

My Jetta Sportwagen tdi with dsg transmission was purchased new in may 2009. Within 3 months of purchase, we noticed the car would jerk and slam into gear. Every time we had the car in for service we complained of the "jerk" or "slam". Then, in Dec 2009 we received a warranty extension for the dsg tranny from 60,000 miles to 100,000. This obviously showed there were known problems. At all of it's scheduled maintenance appointments, I would mention the jerkiness. The dealership said there was no problems since they never felt it shift funny when they drove it. It wasn't even until 43,000 did anyone ride in the car with me to see! not once did they hook the car to a computer to run for codes or faults. I did not have a check engine fault code either. We had the tranny serviced per the vw manual at a little over 40,000 miles and that did not help the car. Now, the car tends to downshift while completely stopped, still slams/jerks into gear, rocks back and forth when you put it in park and rolls backwards several feet when you put the car in drive from reverse (in our sloped driveway. ) this never happened in the past, but now you have to "power" brake the car to ensure you don't roll back and hit the others in our driveway. Since I was getting no where, I finally called an opened a case with vw customer care. This time when I took the car in for service I mentioned the problem again and referenced my case number. They checked my car out today and said they ordered a new mechatronic unit. The service bulletins showed the exact symptoms that my car was doing, but we never got any help. It wasn't until I opened a case with vw that something was done. We'll see if this new part fixes our problem or not. I love my jetta, just not the crappy transmission!.
