Four problems related to fuel pump have been reported for the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The car made loud knocking noises and stopped. The service advisor first said there was an ignition in the fuel pump, then 10 days later he said it was fuel pump failure. All diesel fuel I purchased for the car was purchased at pmm mobil, 26393 vermont Ave. , harbor city CA. , 90710. I had just filled up with fuel 10 miles earlier and I was 1/2 block away from my home when the car failed, I could have been anywhere! the same service adviser gave no suggestions to help prevent another failure, leaving me to rely on the information on the internet to keep the car running.
The diesel fuel high pressure fuel pump failed causing metal particles to contaminate the entire fuel system.
Loss of power when accelerating away from a stop sign on a large busy intersection. Weather conditions were light rain temp in the 70's. Continued to drive for several miles at slower speeds (about 40 mph). Noticed a dash waring light was also flashing, something about a glow plug. All gages looked normal. Several days later notified the vw dealer of the of the condition the car was to get the 20,000 mile service. Service person said he would check it out. Called next day to ask if I had used bio diesel fuel. Replyed I had not and the same fuel in the tank had been un use when the power loss was noticed. Called next day to report parts were on order. Got car back about 5 weeks later and car works ok. Said they found particals of metal in the fuel system. Changed the fuel pump and a bunch of other fuel system parts on warranty.
In rush-hour traffic in boston the driver's foot was on the accelerator when the car stopped moving in the middle of the highway. Luckily, the ambulance and police arrived promptly and were able to get the car off the road. Then it was towed to the nearest vw dealership. The cars diagnosis was a fuel pump collapse. This was hard to believe seeing as we have only owned this brand-new car for one month.
