Body Problems of Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen

Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen owners have reported 7 problems related to body (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Body problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen

Failure Date: 02/05/2021

Panaramic roof top leaking. This VIN isn't covered by the recall that is out but it is affected by the same issues as the recall for 2015 and up models. Panaramic roof top leaks in drain tubes causing safety concerns due to fog and damage to airbag unit vehicle stationary. I have attached the recall for the other model but my car is affected exactly the same and should be covered by the recall as well.

2 Body problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

Car is serviced at vw dealer every 10,000 miles. At 70,000 miles they tell me my rear side door hinges are rusted and need replacement at my costs. Why would door hinges rust away? when it does rain when I open the rear doors, water does pour our the bottom of door. . Poor german engineering design? 2nd problem: they tell me my emergency/parking brake cable, etc. , is rusted away. Another engineering problem? again I'd have to pay. 3rd problem: at 73,000 miles my rear hatch will not open. Brought it in and they say it's the electronic part that went bad. Engineering? I paid for repair. I bought the car new and it's only 5 years old.

3 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen

Failure Date: 05/17/2016

The sun roof drain tubes shrink and separate causing a water leak inside of the car and continuing down the "a" pillar. There are air bags located in the "a" pillar, and this water migration, will over time, have an affect on the operation of the air bags. I know of three friends with Jetta Sportwagens within this body style, mkvi, that have the same problem. Volkswagen has denied fixing this problem at their cost, they say it is out of warranty. This is going to be a safety, and liability issue, it may already be one, and it should be a recall item, fixed at their cost. To continue to use the same drain tubes, which shrink and leak after only two years is negligence. I hope that someone isn't injured by this when wet or rotten air bags are deployed.

My brakes frequently squeak . Something with the ignition also seems to not be working right when I try turning on my car, it won't start the first time(s) or starting is delayed.

5 Body problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen

Failure Date: 08/11/2010

Sunroof drainage tubes became unglued from the draining nipples that attach to the panoramic sunroof assembly causing a large water leaks every time it rained. The a, b, c, and d interior pillars and headliner became soaked as did the interior carpets and other components including the fuse panel box and central electronics control module (cecm) behind the driver's side dash causing intermittent electrical shorts and drivability issues. This is a real safety hazard that has afflicted many vw sedans with the standard glass sunroof and wagons equipped with the optional panoramic glass sunroof. Evidence of other failures of these components has been documented on many vw advocate forums but no vw TSB or recall campaigns have been issued to date to address this defect. The repair is very costly (4-5 hours of labor plus parts). A class-action lawsuit is currently underway for this same defect for many Volkswagen cars up to 2009 but the same defect persist in 2009 and newer jetta sedans and sportwagens with sunroofs. I urge the ntsa to investigate this safety hazard on affected vw vehicles from 2009-2012.

7 Body problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

Shortly after purchase, car began to fill with water. Not directly from the sun roof but from a disconnected or damaged drain hose. Causing serious mold & electrical problems. Vw has reluctantly looked into the problem, replaced parts, but only made it worse. And the car is now undrivable.
