The f16 fuse in the engine bay that connects power to multiple exterior lights as well as the abs brake system melts and melts part of the fuse tray. This is the same thing that happens with the vw tiguan in campaign am97. Look into am97 as this can ruin your abs brake system. This should be recalled and fixed. This picture is not mine but is exactly what happened.

Walked out to the garage where the vehicle had been shut off for a number of minutes to conduct another day’s personal investigation (can’t leave it outside when it rains unfortunately - moonroof leaks). This time: exterior lights on & found the interior lights in what looked to be an odd cycling. Video can be provided, no pictures taken. The price for honesty? dealers: $500. I can live with that, someone should at some point, do the right thing by others & disclose its problems. The car is a lemon & by all other standards-has no reason to be. I’m done filing reports, 3 in 30 days & I’m done driving the vehicle after 101 days of personal research. Behind the wheel of this VIN which additionally is covered till 2028 & has also failed previously (Nov ‘22 clock spring) is too much of a safety concern; & the cost to repair exceeds the worth of the car. Value in a sense is relative, and I don’t have much to say about that subject. Additional findings and details can be provided. Also, toxins & emissions are a concern.

While driving on a major highway at approximately 65 mph, my car completely shut off. The steering wheel froze, all the lights on the dashboard started blinking and the car's engine completely shut down. The wheel locked as I was able to steer to the median. I got out of the car and another car behind me immediately crashed into my stopped car, totaling it.

Vehicle’s electrical system shuts off as I am driving. This happened at night , almost caused a crash.
The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle turned off and restarted independently while the vehicle was still in motion, resulting in a momentary loss of control over the vehicle. The contact also stated that the battery was being drained quickly. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular failure. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined an electrical short was causing the battery to drain and other electrical issues. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 85,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen jetta. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph the vehicle began to hesitate and the check engine light illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to an auto parts store that used a hand held scanner and determined that the vehicle needed to be taken to a dealer for engine failures. The contact had stated that the engine failures were intermittent at first but had become recurring and at any speed. Additionally, she started having electrical issues and a problem with the catalytic converter. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that cylinder one glow plug and several relays needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle failures connected with the "check engine" warning had reoccurred. The contact returned the vehicle to the same dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the failures were related to manufacturer service campaigns 24cv and 23u3 emissions modifications (engine and engine cooling). The contact was advised that her vehicle was no longer covered under warranty. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.
Took normal turn down road, heard clicking noise. Airbag light on dash came on immediately along with loss of function of steering wheel buttons. No warning lamps prior to failure. No issues prior to failure. Vehicle has been inspected by Volkswagen dealer and claimed clock spring needed replacement.
The car stalls in traffic and is slow to accelerate. The service department attributes the cause from a problem with a contaminated fuel system. However, the car has had a series of problems with the electrical system where I was told the "radio is draining the battery". The car would be parked without the keys in the ignition and it failed to start and the cause being the radio draining the battery. The issue is both electrical and diesel engine related.
Wipers stopped working replaced motor and still nothing. I have spoken to other vw owners and they have stated they have had the same problem.
At first we had to replace the intake manifold and then a month later we had to replace the catalytic converter and now it’s in the shop having the dlf filter , fuel pump , & fuel lines . All dealing with the diesel exhaust and fuel distribution. It’s leaking diesel fuel with strong odor of diesel to the point it makes you feel sick. The Volkswagen dealership never informed me of any recalls on my vehicle. The dealership is flow Volkswagen greensboro nc.
Dpf light came on and went off and then came on.

Stationary vehicle left stranded. Engine wass immobilized key not recognized.
I noticed my car has been cutting out and not having power when driving down a freeway. Ill put the pedal down it didnt move. I noticed my stereo started kind of flashing as well. I figured maybe it was electrical so I started looking around and I opened up my trunk and it was 4 inches of water where my spare tire is. Then I started looking around where my panoramic sunroof is and there's a huge spots of water that's wet. They did not disclose this to me when I purchase the car and I asked them if there was any problems of leaking. I think it's messing up my electrical system and my power. I felt very unsafe when I wasn't able to accelerate in the middle of traffic.
On a cold morning, I started my car by turning the key in the ignition, then locked the doors manually from the exterior with another key, in order to allow the car to warm up and defrost before the commute to work. When I returned 10 minutes later, the car was emitting gray smoke from the hood, and upon opening the driver's door, I discovered that the entire cabin of the vehicle was filled with gray smoke as well. I reached in and removed the key from the ignition, then left the vehicle with the driver door open to allow the smoke to air out. Once the smoke cleared, I was able to see that the dash near the driver's seat had completely melted, the ceiling had burned, the windshield had shattered, and several other dashboard components were melted and/or missing. I never witnessed flame, and I contacted 911 immediately to have police and/or fire dispatched to my home to ensure the situation was resolved. A single officer arrived and advised that with no indication of criminality, I need only contact my insurance agent, which I did.
Abs, esc indicator lights came on driving at highway speed, and with brake indicator flashing and audible sound. Diagnosed at capistrano vw as failure of abs control module. Repair declined due to $2,500 cost, but the circumstances indicate this should be covered in safety recall 45f2, NHTSA campaign 16v913 (although VIN not indicated as part of recall according to NHTSA records). Will follow up with dealership. Nhtsa should note other similar complaints to cause manufacturer to expand number of affected vehicles. Vw's response appears to be inadequate so far.

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen. While driving various speeds, the windshield wipers activated without warning and the vehicle intermittently stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the electrical system needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same failure as listed in NHTSA campaign number: 11v196000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was 120,000.
Key gets stuck in ignition when turning off engine.
Engine won't turn off. Car is in park, I try turning the engine off to exit the vehicle, key comes out but the engine is still running.
I was driving on the highway and I smelled burning plastic. I reached behind my back and burned my finger. I pulled off and looked and saw a hold and melted seat. The back of my coat was melted as well. I have taken it to a vw dealer to be inspected and it was caused by a wire shorting out. There is a case now open for me with vw. Waiting to hear if they will pay to fix the seat.
My car ignition are continue failing on me. Sometimes it works and some times was not working. The keys got stuck in the ignition. We can't turn off the engine. Some times we can't turn on the engine. I'm afraid its a safety hazard that ignition will fail during driving.
The fuse box melted and caused electrical malfunctions. This seems like a safety issue. Apparently this has happened frequently and other models (tiguan) have been recalled due to the failure of the same part number.
Car radio stopped functioning without any noticeable cause. Screen completely blank, does not respond to buttons or other input.
Recently my 2011 Jetta Sportwagen's exterior light dashboard indicator came on. Upon investigation I found that the passenger side exterior front and rear lights were not working. Intermittently over the next few days they would work and then fail again without any reason. I took the car to the dealer and was told I had one bulb out and that there was nothing wrong with the car. And that they had never ever heard of this issue in any Volkswagen. The same day the lights failed again. I investigated this time myself and found multiple complaints about the f16 fuse. My f16 fuse was visibly burnt and the fuse box was melted at the f16 spot. A new fuse has temporarily fixed the problem, but I am concerned about a safety issue if this is melting the fuse box and my lights could fail at a critical time.
Vw refusing to complete abs module recall because abs module already has fault codes stored. The point of the recall is to repair or replace the faulty abs modules, but in our case, since the module already contains fault codes, the dealership and vw corporate are refusing to perform the safety recall.
Car is serviced at vw dealer every 10,000 miles. At 70,000 miles they tell me my rear side door hinges are rusted and need replacement at my costs. Why would door hinges rust away? when it does rain when I open the rear doors, water does pour our the bottom of door. . Poor german engineering design? 2nd problem: they tell me my emergency/parking brake cable, etc. , is rusted away. Another engineering problem? again I'd have to pay. 3rd problem: at 73,000 miles my rear hatch will not open. Brought it in and they say it's the electronic part that went bad. Engineering? I paid for repair. I bought the car new and it's only 5 years old.
While driving on the highway several messages started to appear in reference to failed lights. I lost signal lights, headlights and brake lights. Replacing the lights did not solve the problem. At the dealer they told me that the fuse box was burned out and needed replacement. This is what happened to me while driving the car on 3/24/2017.
On this vehicle, fuse (f16 plug-in position) overheated and damaged the fuse box, causing a partial loss of exterior vehicle lighting. This could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Vw issued 97am action alert for earlier year same models, but not this and later year models.
The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen. The contact stated that the speedometer failed without warning. In addition, the abs indicator illuminated and the fuel mileage sensor failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the abs module failed, and the abs cord was burned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v913000 (electronic stability control). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 71,000.
When I started the car the hvac blower motor would not work. The dealer found that the motor had shorted out and instead of blowing the fuse and deactivating the blower motor and motor circuit, the blower fuse melted, the fuse box melted, and the connector was also melted. This car is primarily used for short trips and was taken to the dealer shortly after the motor stopped working, if I had been on a long trip or ignored the problem I believe this short circuit would have resulted in a fire under my dashboard. Why didn't the fuse blow and what's the point of having a fuse in the circuit if a shorted motor causes the fuse box and fuse to melt, and not blow the fuse and isolate the shorted circuit? this design is a disaster waiting to happen. I did not notice any smoke or smell of melting plastic before the motor stopped working. I've attached the repair work order, the repair was completed under new car warranty at no cost to me.
Right front headlight assembly (high & low beam, turn signal, drl), right rear taillight, third brake light, license plate light and left rear turn signal all stopped working at the same time. Dash information center reported all of these lights need to be checked. After 1. 5 hours of troubleshooting with a fluke multi-meter, I found a post on tdi forums referencing campaign 97am to check the fuse panel under the hood, position f16, 30amp fuse for melting. I checked this fuse and the fuse panel and fuse is melted. I contacted the vw dealership that verified there is no recall on this issue pertaining to my VIN. I then contacted vw customer care who also said there is no recall or safety issue and they will not correct it based on numerous complaints about the issue on the 2009 - 2012 Jetta Sportwagens. Vw advised me to take the car to the vw dealership for further diagnosis but advised I would be responsible for any charges to fix the car.
Radio (including bluetooth) suddenly went out at 39k miles. Dealer diagnosis was that radio failed.
Rcd-315 radio died. While driving on country road, radio popped and died. After electrical test of fuses and internet search, I determined that the radio could not be repaired. The safety issue on this is that the bluetooth module was still active and there was no way to turn it off other than unplugging the bluetooth. Since I use hands free phone, this is a hazardous failure. I located 100's of websites that talked about this radio issue and the resulting electrical problems that this failure causes. This issue should be a recall priority.

My lights began failing without warning. Front headlight, rear tail light, license plate light, directional signals, back up lights. In total, 7 lights failed within minutes. Vehicle was turned on and moving on a city street. Warning lights inside the vehicle told me that lights failed when I used them (signals, brakes, headlights, etc). Drove directly to dealership to repair/report problem. Research told me that this was a common issue and a NHTSA recall on 2009 and 2010 models. Our 2011 did not have a recall on it, but issue was identical. Contacted vw customer service. Case #160222423. They agreed to pay 75%.
Electrical lighting monitoring system started going through several actions indicating right front low beam was out, then left rear brake light was out, then front, right signal light was out, then left rear signal light was out, then license bracket light was out. All this happened while the auto was being driven on a straight section of highway. Carried auto to local service man who said it would be better for Volkswagen to look at it, as it involved major electrical problems. Although car had been turned off, the battery had to be re-charged to get the car to start in order to carry to dealer - 45 miles away. Was told by vw dealership that it sounded like the fuse box had melted. Stated they had seen several incidents of this. Actual diagnosis was the fuse box had melted. I commented that this seemed strange. I thought the purpose of a fuse box was a safeguard to prevent overheating and that fuses were suppose to blow and stop the current flow if there were problems in the electrical system.
Factory radio model rcd 510. Car mileage: 61,320 miles. It was hot outside and I was running air conditioning. After driving for about 30min with radio on, the radio went blank (black screen). It would not turn back on at the time. A technician checked fuses and no blown fuses were found. The radio remained in the car for 2 more days and would not turn back on. Radio was removed from the car and the technician took the radio apart, could not find an issue, discharged capacitor & radio still did not work. Radio is totally dead. Safety issue since bluetooth (handsfree) phone will not work without radio.
