While driving the vehicle, suddenly and without warning it downshifted, went into limp mode and became stuck in second gear. Fortunately, I was driving on a secondary road with little traffic. Had I been on a major road or highway, its likely I would have been rear ended resulting in injury/death. I have taken vehicle to dealership where it has been confirmed it is the dsg transmission caused by a faulty mechatronics unit. I am being told the entire transmission needs to be replaced. Had vw recalled and fixed the problem earlier, I would not need a new transmission now. Vw is refusing to pay for cost to replace it. After speaking with vw service representatives and mechanics, it is well known by vw this could happen. There have been recalls in other countries - australia, singapore, japan, china, etc. To replace faulty unit/transmission because it caused deaths. Vw only did an extended warranty for cars in the USA. My vehicle is beyond that warranty.

Walked out to the garage where the vehicle had been shut off for a number of minutes to conduct another day’s personal investigation (can’t leave it outside when it rains unfortunately - moonroof leaks). This time: exterior lights on & found the interior lights in what looked to be an odd cycling. Video can be provided, no pictures taken. The price for honesty? dealers: $500. I can live with that, someone should at some point, do the right thing by others & disclose its problems. The car is a lemon & by all other standards-has no reason to be. I’m done filing reports, 3 in 30 days & I’m done driving the vehicle after 101 days of personal research. Behind the wheel of this VIN which additionally is covered till 2028 & has also failed previously (Nov ‘22 clock spring) is too much of a safety concern; & the cost to repair exceeds the worth of the car. Value in a sense is relative, and I don’t have much to say about that subject. Additional findings and details can be provided. Also, toxins & emissions are a concern.

November 2022 while driving on highway at 70mph transmission shutters and vehicle begins to decrease speed. Pulled over to the side of the road and the check engine lights came on. Vehicle shut off and re-started and vehicle drove, but would not shift out of 3rd gear. Drove 20 miles home at 40mph with hazard lights on, checked engine code and error was p0722 output speed sensor. I brought to vw dealership and was told the dsg transmission failed at 67,000. Despite having vw drive easy protection, transmission cost ~4000 to replace with a used transmission. Vw drive easy states because maintenance schedule was not done at 40,000 miles, warranty was void. This 2014 tdi was a dieselgate car that sat for ~2years prior to vw selling, and at purchase I was told all fluids were changed, which would have changed schedule service dates. This was very dangerous to myself and my small kids as loss of power at highway speeds, with no warning and transmission being dead, could have caused a serious accident if I was not on a remote section of highway.

My vehicle only has about 80,000 miles and there is a very loud sound coming from the dual mass flywheel when idling, both when parked or in drive. This seems premature for this transmission.
I noticed my car has been cutting out and not having power when driving down a freeway. Ill put the pedal down it didnt move. I noticed my stereo started kind of flashing as well. I figured maybe it was electrical so I started looking around and I opened up my trunk and it was 4 inches of water where my spare tire is. Then I started looking around where my panoramic sunroof is and there's a huge spots of water that's wet. They did not disclose this to me when I purchase the car and I asked them if there was any problems of leaking. I think it's messing up my electrical system and my power. I felt very unsafe when I wasn't able to accelerate in the middle of traffic.

When moving from stop, transmission takes a second to engage. This is dangerous because when trying to take a turn from stop, hesitation could lead to serious accident. Engage 1st gear.
Vehicle stalled out while driver at highway speeds due to intercooler freezing, on second occasion vehicle was unable to start due to engine hydrolocking from frozen intercooler thawing out. Vw has released a bulletin for this issue but will not stand by warranty on said component.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen. The contact stated that the dealer hansel Volkswagen( 2951 corby Ave, santa rosa, CA 95407, (707) 501-5977) provided a manufacturer solution of modifying the diesel system. The contact noticed that the transmission had been hesitant as if the vehicle may stall when needing to change gears as the gears had been slow to change over. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer more than twice who had been unable to replicate the failure and provide a diagnosis for repair. The manufacturer was notified that their solution impacted the transmission but they provided no remedy so the contact was uncertain if the vehicle may be repaired with no solution. The manufacturer was to provide a follow response and the contact was waiting for a response. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
Volkswagen tdi high pressure fuel pump failed, causing car to suddenly stall in left lane of local highway rt-198 in burtonsville, MD. I was in motion in traffic stalled as I was coming through intersection at rt-198 and rt-29.
When sitting on a uphill incline preparing to merge into traffic I pressed on the accelerator and started rolling backwards. The transmission finally took hold after the pedal was pressed a number of times to the floor. This is a safety issue! I have read online forums and numerous complaints have been filed. The transmission has a stalling problem. I bought the auto new. As of my knowledge now there is no recall, however this is a serious defect!!!.

Car jerks when up shifting and down shifting I was told by the dealer that the transmission needed a part that had to be order from germany. They called the mechatron they told me it was the computer brain for the transmission I waited two weeks and after having the car for a few days it is doing the same thing I'm taking it back tomorrow. Sometimes it feels like the car doesn't want to come off a high gear i¿m afraid that I wont be able to stop the car . I wish I could get my money back.

While entering freeway have to depress accelerator peddle 1/4 to 3/4 of the way down before acceleration begins. From stop and merging into traffic have to depress accelerator 1/4 to 3/4 of the way down before acceleration. Entering freeway or fast starts, accelerates then dies off then goes again. On hill starts it sometimes rolls back as if it is in neutral. These are intermittent problems at varying degrees of severity .
The mechatronic unit on the dsg failed causing the transmission to lurch forward when in 1st gear, and remaining in neutral for an extended period which is not normal. This is a safety issue as it can cause an accident in the failure to clear an intersection especially making a left turn, and potentially cause rear ending another vehicle and or causing unexpected acceleration. Right now, the vehicle is in the shop waiting for a whole new mechatronic unit to be replaced. Currently waiting on order. The vehicle is covered under warranty as it only has 7k miles on it.
When accelerating from a quick stop the car sometimes experiences a delayed response. The car will begin to accelerate at a crawl (as if I only let off the brake) even though the pedal is pushed to approximately 20% then will suddenly accelerate as if I pushed the pedal to 80% sometimes causing the tires to slip. This unexpected/undesired response makes the car appear to other drivers as if it is not proceeding through the intersection which leads them to start to proceed and then it quickly accelerates. To try and prevent this I am forced to push the accelerator pedal to 20% or so and then quickly reduce it to 5%. Additionally when slightly letting off the accelerator (less than a 5% change in accelerator position) while driving at highway speeds the car will suddenly lose power as if it was shifted into neutral then will resume normal operation. This reduction in power last for less than a second and as the car is well into its top gear and is not asked to quickly accelerate does not make sense.
We purchased a demo vw jetta sportswagon tdi the summer of 2010, the vehicle had @ 2600 mi. On the odometer. After driving it for a while we noticed that when you step on the accelerator there was often a hesitation before the car engaged and you started forward. We talked to the dealer and they told us it was the transmission, several other people had complained about it but there was nothing they could do. When you try to get out in heavy traffic you often put yourself and others at significant risk because the car hesitates as you try to accelerate from a stop leaving you hanging out into traffic. Someone is going to cause an accident, I hope it isn't us.
I have a jetta tdi 2010 sport wagon that has significant pause when the throttle is held constant. Random but happens every day. Brought to the attention of the dealership and they said they knew of the problem but don't know why this is happening and will call us if they come up with a fix!.
During the cold winter months in nh. My 2009 vw Jetta Sportwagen tdi has exhibited a engine stumble problem when it is started. The car will start but run rough and abruptly stall. It takes on average of 5 starts before the engine will stay running in a smooth manner. Most of the events have been after driving more than 30 miles and parking it overnight in a non-heated garage at 44f. One occurrence was in my work parking lot after sitting 8hrs in 30f weather. This problem has occurred a total of 10 times. The problem occurs about once a week. Most recently it started and didn't run rough until I had pulled out on to the road. The engine started to run rough and I had to pull off to the side. The car had to be shutoff and restarted before it ran smooth. The outside temperature was 10f. The car has been to vw service twice. The car doesn't trigger a code for vw to diagnose, but the problem is very real. Vw doesn't know what is wrong and no repairs have been made. The car could leave my family stranded in cold conditions or possibly hit while the car is on the side of the road.
My Jetta Sportwagen tdi with dsg transmission was purchased new in may 2009. Within 3 months of purchase, we noticed the car would jerk and slam into gear. Every time we had the car in for service we complained of the "jerk" or "slam". Then, in Dec 2009 we received a warranty extension for the dsg tranny from 60,000 miles to 100,000. This obviously showed there were known problems. At all of it's scheduled maintenance appointments, I would mention the jerkiness. The dealership said there was no problems since they never felt it shift funny when they drove it. It wasn't even until 43,000 did anyone ride in the car with me to see! not once did they hook the car to a computer to run for codes or faults. I did not have a check engine fault code either. We had the tranny serviced per the vw manual at a little over 40,000 miles and that did not help the car. Now, the car tends to downshift while completely stopped, still slams/jerks into gear, rocks back and forth when you put it in park and rolls backwards several feet when you put the car in drive from reverse (in our sloped driveway. ) this never happened in the past, but now you have to "power" brake the car to ensure you don't roll back and hit the others in our driveway. Since I was getting no where, I finally called an opened a case with vw customer care. This time when I took the car in for service I mentioned the problem again and referenced my case number. They checked my car out today and said they ordered a new mechatronic unit. The service bulletins showed the exact symptoms that my car was doing, but we never got any help. It wasn't until I opened a case with vw that something was done. We'll see if this new part fixes our problem or not. I love my jetta, just not the crappy transmission!.
We were stopped at a light and the car would not go when it turned green. The engine would rev with pedal application as though the car was in neutral but no gear change (d, r, return to p and try d again) would induce the car to move. There was no check engine but a tiny flashing wrench in the corner of the display. In desperation we turned the ignition completely off, removed the key and restarted the car, and the error and flashing wrench disappeared and the car started and behaved normally. Unfortunately, the complete disconnect/stuck in neutral behavior happened again 5 minutes later on a high-speed 4 lane highway. We were cruising at full speed and the wheels abruptly lost power even though the engine was still going. There was no limp mode or power of any kind, we managed to coast to the shoulder by residual momentum, but if we hadn't been fortunate to be in the extreme right lane a deadly accident would have been extremely likely. The freeway incident showed the "check engine" light as well as the flashing wrench. The car was completely disabled and had to be towed. The dealership was not helpful or informative but wanted to replace the transmission.
