Brake Abs Warning Light Problems of Volkswagen New Beetle

Abs system has failed, as indicated by its dashboard warning light, which is on. Dealership diagnosis: faulty abs controller/pump module, $825 to repair. Vw has an abs recall, #02v031000, which covers 2000-2002 New Beetle, golf/gti, jetta. Dealership claims my vehicle is not covered.

The abs light stays on all of the time. Whenever I drive in wet conditions the brake warning light flashes and a buzzer sounds. Vw dealer recommends replacement of abs control module at a cost of $1,680.

The contact owns a 2001 Volkswagen New Beetle. The contact stated that the abs light illuminated. The dealer replaced the # 5 and # 9 fuses. The fuses blew the same day and the abs light illuminated again. The vehicle was driven back to the Volkswagen dealer and the abs control unit was replaced. The failure occurred once more while on a road trip. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and the wiring harness was diagnosed as having melted wiring. The instrument cluster was replaced along with some wires. The contact referenced recall # 02v031000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in the recall. The purchase date was unknown. The current mileage is 92,000 and failure mileage was 91,000.

Consumer was involved in an accident where the air bags failed to deploy. The airbag light was on, as well as the check engine and abs lights. Consumer went to dealership to get vehicle serviced, but dealership could not determine the cause of the problem.
