My driver seat was dislocated n pushed to the back while the car was in motion. Luckily I was driving in the town n the speed was slow n I managed to park my car after much difficulty cos I could not reach the pedal of brake n had to pull myself forward to do it. God blessed me that nothing happened except rushing of adrenaline. Later I found out that the dislocation of seat was caused by the loosing screws which secured the seat. The screws are in perfect condition. They certainly cannot come loose cos there is not wear n tear. It much be manufactured defect. I report to vw dealer but they want diagnostic charge. What a joke. I do not send my car for repair cos I want the truth of the matter. I only taped my screws to fix them. Still they will come loose after a while.

My 1998 vw New Beetle driver seat dislodged cos screws underneath came out while driving on oakland highway. I was pushed to the back on the seat n I was not able to reach my accelerator n brake pedals. I would have been killed on freeway if it happened five minutes earlier. The screws came loose the second time. The third time I have to use the white tape on the screws to tighten them.

2001 brand New Beetle started developing stains on the seat from day one. Blue jeans and dark sweaters stain the interiors to that color everytime someone sits down in the car. The throttle body has gone out three times, costing me over countless dollars in repair fees and is now out for the fourth time. Crown Volkswagen in tyler, TX has repaired it each time, the longest repair lasting about four months. They've paid for the repair once, but do not provide me with a replacement rental vehicle, refuse to pick up the phone during the day or return phone calls, and has cost me tons of time and money traveling from dallas to tyler to check on the car and pick it up. Once, I drove two hours from nacogdoches, TX to tyler, TX on the scheduled pick up day, having tried to call before leaving town to make sure it was ready, only to find that they hadn't gotten to the car when I arrived. This happened twice during the same repair which lasted a couple of weeks. They have been uncooperative, and the car is horrible. The arm rest broke one day as I lifted it, it just fell apart in my hands, the interior covering on the doors and dashboard flakes off, the sunroof broke numerous times while driving over a railroad track to get to work everyday. It finally jammed the visor so that it no longer works. The seat moving mechanisms no longer work. The airbag is in constant malfunction, the check engine and eps lights are always on. I constantly have to pull my car over onto the side of the road because it loses power and I have to restart it to get it to work again, although it never has a lot of power. This particular issue has nearly caused several wrecks. I am incredibly lucky. The cruise control no longer works, and it takes about 200 dollars a month to fill it up with gas because the engine problems effect the fuel efficiency.

While driving srs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. The consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic determined that the air bag sensor needed to be reset, and reset it six times. However, the problem recurred. The seat latch was broken and the rear console was falling apart.

The car has been to the service department for the driver side tail light bulb to be replaced twice. Bulb replacement only fixes the problem for 2 to 3 days. There is some type of short and I keep getting hit with a service charge every time the vehicle goes in for this. Also the driver side seat is showing some beyond normal wear and tear for a vehicle with only 25k. The leather seating surface is tearing at the seams and appears to be of very thin materials in the bolster area.

The bolts at the bottom front of the driver's seat came loose, allowing the seat to "wiggle" in its tracks. Subsequently, the bolts worked themselves free and allowed the driver's seat to move back and forth in its tracks, thus preventing the setting of a safe, stationary position. Also, because the front bolts that hold the seat to the vehicle chassis have failed, vehicle movements allow the front edge of the driver's seat to tip up and down in an arching direction. This means that unless the driver is holding on to the steering wheel firmly, the seat tends to tip back when the vehicle accelerates from a stop or a steady speed. The seat also tends to tip up and down when the vehicle rebounds as it completes a stop. On the first occasion that the seat anchoring system failed (January 2000), the seat moved all the way to the back of its track, breaking through the back end of the left plastic rail cover and allowing the the left side seat roller to jut out in the open. This type of problem was also reported twice to NHTSA in 1999 according to phil edmonston author of lemon-aid car guide 2001. This appears to be a manufactuer defect, as it occurs under normal vehicle operating conditions.
