Car was serviced at Audi of huntsville on 7/11/11. New injec pump, tooth belt, tensioner, water pump, coolant ad, additive, 3 rollers, ribbedbelt and fuelfilter installed. Removed timing covers. Removed intake piping an the tensioner, water pump and belt. Reinstalled removed componet and retested. Set pump timing. Car was given a clean bill of health. Yesterday 2/1/12 car slips out of gear and will either not switch gears or switch gears and unexpectedly jerk the car. Unable to drive car due to safety reasons. Researched online to find that owners of this vehicle have the same issues. Please help us resolve this issue.
I was using the vehicle jack to raise the left rear wheel off the ground to change the tire. The car was on a flat concrete garage floor. The jack failed and the rear of the vehicle swung toward me. The jack should not have failed. I can see that the jack is not made very well. The vehicle could have easily fallen on top of me and seriously injured or killed me. I checked to see if there is a safety recall on these vehicle jacks; but, I could not find one. These jacks pose a serious safety risk. I would like for vw to replace my jack with one that is safe and will not fail like this one did. I have the jack available for inspection.
There is an unusually strong, and obnoxious, odor (smelling of burnt crayons) coming from the interior of the car. The smell is so over-powering I have to open the windows, and leave them open, the entire time I am driving the car, otherwise I become dizzy and nauseous. . Read more...
The battery fuse box the fuse to the alternator has melted 3 times within the last 2 months costing me over 1000. 00 in repairs. Battery replaced, alternator replace voltage regulator replaced, alter. Harness replaced and numerous other things but fuse keeps blowing and melts fuse box and car dies loses complete powerwithout warning. There is a potiential fire hazard. There are dozen of complaints of the same problem and no recall has been issued.
At less 60k miles, I've been having transmission problem and was told by 2 repair shops that it need to be replaced . Both repair shops admitted that this is a common problem with vw beetle. I purchase the car new and maintained and service at suggested times at same place of purchase. I purchased extended warranty and have complained in the past. The problem then was intermittent and shop never found the problem until the warranty expired a month later. I have read similar problem from several owners and some were repaired free while other were turned away. Since the problem is inconsistent with many owners at such low mileage, this problem qualifies under lemon law. I request that NHTSA investigate this mechanical problem and consider a recall based on many complaints. Even repair shops know this problem existed and we need help form this government body to investigate this problem before it continues to compromised safety.
No adapter for anti theft lug nuts in spare tire kit. Nobody can repair flat tire.
Rear suspenction makes squiking noise. Tyre pressure indicator on after 2 hours of driving. Head lights too weak bulp for front or rear or reverse always needs replacement inside hand rest too weak design always break. Vw service station too expencive and wants money only. 2)fix it yourself. Keep doing it till I cannot sell it. 3) fix it your self. Yes would like to have the manual so I can do it profectionally myself. 4)in little rock the north point service station is the worst vw station. They only want money even to fix or in inspect or find out what is at fault. Buying vw means do the reparing yourself. Parts tooo expencive.
Sensor lights come on intermittently. Not consistent and go days between repeat issue. Abs/brake/esp: comes on and when car is restart will not duplicate. Dealer replaced module and it came on again. Seat belt alarm: will alarm even when seat belt is fastened. Airbag sensor: came on then, when car was restart it would not duplicate. Happened 3 time in a week. Headlights replaced: both replaced twice in one year. Locks: will lock/unlock while driving when they already had been locked.
I purchased 2004 vw beetle 7 months ago. About a week after purchase, the car began jumping, jerking, and surging. On three different occasions, the car stalled on the roadway, twice on the interstate. The car was barely driven due to uncertainty with what the problem was. While driving on the interstate today (75 mph), the vehicle switched out of gear. I immediately lost ability to drive. I was barely able to get it off the highway before someone crashed into me. I had it towed to another vw dealership and just today found out the mechatronics control module needs to be replaced. Something needs to be done ASAP before someone gets killed!.
I own a 2005 beetle intermittently it doesn't start. I have had it in the shop as much as I have driven,in a year and a half. The last thing they thought it might be is the electric control module. Has there been alot of complaints in this area. Please further advise me.
The transmission started out shifting rough. Then it progressed to a point that it will shift so hard that it will throw you forward in you seat. We took it to the dealership and they said the warranty had expired and that we would have to pay for it. Then last year the vw sent us a letter saying the warranty had been extended as the transmission was defective. However, they sent it to us a month after the extension expired. We complained to vw and they said there was nothing they could do about it.
Since I bought the vehicle, I had all kinds of problems all the way from changing my whole engine, and changing all kinds of sensors and now I have this big concern with this strange smell problem which I can't get rid off, I had spray and bought all kinds of deodorants and still can't get rid off. I'm having light headaches and allergy problems, but once I get out of the car I'm ok now im to the point that I have to drive with my windows down bcuz this smell is horrible and I get a headache.
Car sporadically looses power while attempting to suddenly accelerate after momentarily lifting foot off gas peddle. Most instances occur while changing lanes on the highway or attempting to make a normal left hand turn. Example: going 60 mph, lift foot off peddle to slow down due to car in front of me, see opening in the lane to my right, turn wheel slightly to change lanes, floor it only to find I have no power with other car barreling down on me. This has happened over a dozen times but I am unable to duplicate it at will.
Any time I turn on my air conditioner it sounds like my car is going to blow up. Cold air comes out, but the noise and the shaking of my car scares me. It started about 4 months ago. I would have the ac on and if my car was idling the noise would start up and my car would vibrate, it felt like my car was idling very heavily. It sounded like a jack hammer. Now, it happens just when I turn the air on, but it's even louder than before. Also I hear the jack hammer sound when the air is not on and hasn't been turned on at all when my car is at a stop or when I turn the car off. I don't have the money to fix it so I haven't even bothered to take it in anywhere to get it fixed. On top of it all, I can't put my windows down because in Nov '05 my passenger side window disconnected from the track. After a couple of months I started to get the feeling the driver side window was not too far behind with it doing the same. Sure enough, this past April, it did the deed. I called the dealership about this to see if fixing it would be covered under warranty, but because my warranty was either 5 years or 60,000 miles and my car being about 62,000 miles was told it was no longer under warranty. I do not have the money to fix this car, I've been having a tough time just paying for the car itself and fighting with Volkswagen credit about this.
Purchased brand new. Problems I have had with this car: 1. Rear power windows have both taken turns falling down into the body. Will not power up. One has been replaced. Dealer now won't fix second one because they 'don't see it as a known problem. ' 2. Headliner around rear window has come undone. 3. Headlights have to be replaced constantly. For example; a light bulb was installed on a Saturday, and had stopped working by the following Wednesday. 4. Rubber coating on glove box and on interior doors is peeling off. Dealer would not even condsider fixing or addressing. 5. Key assembly for arm console broke almost immediately. It took approximately 8 months, and several reminders, to get dealer to replace. 6. Sometimes radio stays on after key has been removed from ignition. 7. Air bag light stays on. Won't go off. 8. Hand release on front passenger seat often gets 'stuck' and will not work. 9. Cup holder has come off track. I only drive this car to-and-from work. No kids/passengers ride in it. It has not had any owner abuse. I will never buy another Volkswagen product.
In oct 03 the vehicle was recalled. (the brake light switch) as time passed, the vehicle became harder and harder to switch out of park. On 6-6-05 the vehicle became stuck park. Owner called the dealer while stuck and dealer instructed how to get the car out of park. Then owner took the vehicle to the dealer and repaired. Air bag light also comes on from time to time, and has been repaired 3 times. Also, all the bulbs in the vehicle burn out unreasonably fast.
My abs dash indicator came on steady, the brake indicator on the dash started flashing and what sounded like the interior chime started sounding continuously. I pulled over into a parking lot and turned off the engine. A puff of smoke/steam came up from the passenger front wheelwell and there was a horrible hiss and whine coming from under the hood on the same side and a burning plastic smell. The dealer said it was the abs module (which they changed for $950!!!) and that only fixed the abs light. No clue on the flashing brake idiot light and now they say the ac does not work at all. No refrigerant, so obviously a leak. It seems way too coincidental. I heard about an abs module recall back in '03 which could short circuit and cause an engine fire. I don't have any idea about the engine compartment geography and I've only had the car (bought used) for about a year and a half. It appears I am not the only person to have experienced this problem. . Read more...
Transmission replaced three times, still not working properly, lunges into forward and reverse, and will drop into and out of high and low gear when driving. Sunroof leaked because the drainage tubing was not connected at factory causing water damage to leather seats and now mold is growing inside of vehicle, making it difficult to be inside and have had one sinus infection already.
A family member of mine recently bought, I believe, a 2001 Volkswagen beetle. After waiting a while for her tags she and her father looked into the documents given to her by the dealership and noticed a discrepancy in mileage after they did a full carfax report on the car. The carfax reported that the car had 76000 miles on it in November of 2003 but the document atesting to mileage from the dealership stated it had only 66k when bought in March on it and the vehicle was not sold to the dealership until February with who knows how many miles. I believe that the dealership or the previous owner rolled back the mileage. In my mind it is more likely that it is the dealer. I would like to know the steps we need to take, the information we need to have and how to get it, and who to contact in south carolina (preferably in rock hill, SC) in order to take care of this problem.
The transmission in my 2002 New Beetle fails to engage for a second or two after the car has been sitting for a while. Doesn't do it at other times, only when the car has been sitting an hour or more. Dealership replaced transmission module twice (two different dealerships) and the third and fourth time I brought it in with the same complaint, they said it was normal for the transmission to behave this way. Inherent to the design of the transmission was this small delay for emissions reasons. I am not buying it, not with all the other issues I have had with this car. I have had it in four times for power window problems and getting ready to bring it in for a fifth. The monsoon stereo has been replaced once and is malfunctioning again. The parking brake assembly broke and had to be replaced. Lots of bothersome problems and now I hear what sounds like a valve tap.
I bought my New Beetle brand new in August 2001. The day after I brought it home (over 2 hours away), the check engine light came on. I called the dealer and they said it didn't mean anything unless it was flashing so I thought nothing of it. 2 months later my abs went out while I was an hour from my house and it had to be towed and replaced. The windows continually go up and down by themself but the dealer can't fix it. I took my car back to the dealer yesterday because it was leaking brake fluid and told them again about the cel light. They then told me I needed to have the mass air flow sensor replace (nearly $400) and that is why my car has been downshifting by itself and losing power while driving. This makes me feel unsafe to drive the car that I had wanted for so long. Dt.
Engine would not start, after several attempts it started but check engine & air bag light was on. Check engine light went off after 23 miles, but air bag light stayed on until instrument cluster was replaced by dealer.
The vehicle has experienced serious malfunctions, which made it totally unsafe and unreliable. Ak **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis*739197.
Ongoing problem with engine check light keep coming on. This has occurred on nine occasions, and vehicle stalled out while traveling at 40 mph or more on two occasions. Dealer unable to locate cause. Consumer states other beetle vehicles have been recalled, however she has not received any recall notification.
