2 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible

Failure Date: 01/10/2011

This vehicle was subject to a recall for the air bag sensors. We had previously had the sensors replaced (the vehicle was just out of warranty based on time). Vw refused ultimately reimbursed us for the repairs and replacement of the sensors. In January of 2011 the air bag light came on. The dealer charged a fee to do a diagnostic test. They determined that the light was due to the failure of the driver side seat belt buckle, and the fact that the battery was discharged and needed to be repaired. They wanted approximately $480 to replace the seat belt buckle, and $245 to replace the battery. I called vw customer service and they agreed to replace the buckle for no charge, but would do nothing about the battery. Vw opened a case # 110006836 and regional manager lisa was the contact. We had aaa come to do a test on the battery. The battery and charging system both passed the test. They recommended that a trickle charge would bring the battery to a full charge. In addition, vw agreed to do a one time courtesy replacement of the convertible roof since the fabric had separated from the rear window. A clip recall had already been performed, but the headliner was hanging down and had separated from the rear window. We feared that the window could separate from the roof at highway speeds. Statement indicates that vw performed 61. 07-02 tech bulletin to perform modifications to the rear window.

4 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible

Failure Date: 11/04/2009

Airbag light on for second time, vehicle is out of warranty, has cost me so far $110 for a dealer to check and $117 for parts not to count my labor for replacement which would have been an extra $400 or so. I believe vehicle falls under a recall for the same problem and during the replacement of the bad parts I found the bad parts mentioned in the recall no. 08v178000 on my vehicle which I still have. Was told that my vehicle, was not part of the recall by vw America but according to the document no. Rcmn-08v178-2838. Pdf found on this web site under defects & recalls, is in fact one of the vehicles that should have received a recall notice for this problem. I would like to be able to have my repairs finished, which should only require the airbag computer to be reset and my previous cost and possible labor charge refunded to me by vw of America.

6 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible

Failure Date: 06/02/2009

2004 vw beetle 27,660 miles vw dealer - kelly motor, scranton, PA air bag light went on and I took car to vw. Passenger seat occupied control module defective. Told part will take 8 weeks to arrive. Car side airbag now does not work. 2nd time airbag light has lighted and been in shop, this on top of recent recall for another airbag sensor fixed earlier this year. I am very concerned about being without an airbag for 8 weeks; vw has no reason for the delay. I called their headquarters in California with no success. Second concern is general reliability for this airbag system due to repairs plus recall. Vw won't respond in getting this part in earlier, can you help get this part to my vw dealer so they can make this car safe? thank you.

7 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2003 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible

Failure Date: 12/09/2008

Car bough used from vs dealership on 7/31/2006. Been in for check engine light 4times, airbag light 3 times, a/c broke once, windows would not roll up once, needed new rotors once, rattling under hood once, battery died two days after I bought it and I had to tow it back to vw. Car jerks when going out of first gear-I told vw this repeatedly and they only tried to fix it after the warranty was up. They told me it would be $700 to fix. On 12/9/2008 my car would not go out of first gear while I was driving it. It had to be towed to my house and has not been driven since. I have had nothing but problems out of this car. I can not put anymore money into it. When the warranty went up, all of the sudden everything started going wrong. I requested prior information from the vw dealership about the other owner before me. I feel that this car was doctored so that I would buy it and then it started falling apart.

10 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2003 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible

Failure Date: 10/26/2007

Three years ago when the car had only 55000 miles on it, the air bag light came on. There was never any deployment of the air bags and I take good care of my car. Vw said it was a defective air bag, but refused to stand behind it. They want $750 to fix it. In the past four years I have had to replace each window motor. They cost $400 to replace. The driver side motor needs to be replaced for the second time. That means the first replacement lasted less than four years. The car has only 77,000 miles on it. This is outrageous.
