I have had the regulator replaced in my rear driver's side window and my front and rear passenger side windows. It seems that there might be a manufacturer defect with the regulators/windows. Thank you.

Rear windows will not go up or down (can hear sound of motors running though). Drivers side window does not 'drop-down' when opening.
My rear passenger window is stuck in the down position. After reading many forums I can conclude that it is the regulator. This seems to be a recurring problem with many of these cars. I am most likely going to have to pay upwards of $1000. 00 to get this fixed. I am not happy about this. It seems to be a defect on Volkswagens part. How many complaints does this take to get a recall.
Vehicle is seven years old with 59,100 miles and already needs a new transmission due to incorrect gear ratio fault 17114, and po330. Also, needs a catalytic converter, has air leak from brake booster vacuum pipe. Vw corporation advised converter under warranty and offered $1,000 toward a new or used vw. The transmission is approximately $4,000. I declined their offer. I also had to replace three window regulators. . . . Updated 01/30/12.
My passenger window regulator needs to be fixed $400-500. Ok, but I already replaced the one on the drivers side rear window. I am reading this is a problem. Should be a recall item.

We are complaining about my granddaughters 2005 vw beetle convertible VIN/[xxx] currently in shop for front drivers side electric window relay problem. Was advised there had been a recall on some vw beetles for this problem but this was not one of the recalled ones. In searching the internet it appears it should have been , seems there have been numerous individuals having the same problem we have. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Front and rear window regulators.
First lost the drivers side rear window regulator, then the passenger side rear window regulator, now the front drivers side window regulator.
2003 beetle convertible window regulators.
Window regulator on our 2004 Volkswagen beetle convertible failed on the second rear window on December 18, 2010. The first occurred on September 22, 2010. According to our repairman, this window regulator is a very poor design and happens on many beetles, even new 2010 versions. Volkswagen of America refuses to issue a recall or warranty coverage for its design problem. Our cost to repair will be $850 to $1,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible. The contact stated that the front passenger and driver side windows would involuntarily open and close independently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told there was an electrical failure causing the windows to malfunction. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact stated that the front driver lock had become inoperable. The battery was replaced twice but to no avail. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.

2005 Volkswagen beetle convertible - window regulator problem, already had back window replaced last year, now front getting replaced.
Driver side rear window failed 9-22-10. I put the windows down. I tried to put the windows back up as it was starting to rain. The driver side rear window will only go half way up and then stops and goes back down.
The window regulators on the 2004 nbc are defective. Both of my rear windows have broken. According to vw, there was a class action lawsuit where they extended the warranty on these parts for 7 years. When I called to see about mine they said the convertibles were not covered, even though the same parts were used. The windows broke when I rolled them down to get the morning condensation off of them. An outside mechanic will charge me $260 per window versus the $500 per window quoted by vw.
Rear window regulator, window will not roll up. First occurrence on 8/26/2010. Waiting to hear response from shop on repair options.
Vw 2004 New Beetle Convertible rear window inoperable. The rear window regulator fails and vw will not repair under the extended 7 year window warranty. I had both door windows replaced under the extended warranty. The driver rear window regulator was replaced under warranty. But the passenger rear window didn't fail under the car's warranty. However, vw has an extended 7 year warranty that they implemented only for the front regulators (why were the rear window regulators excluded? it is clear they fail just like the front ones do). The extended warranty should cover all window regulators as all of them have failed on my car and many others.
Faulty window mechanics, both rear windows have broken in the last six months, cheap made and very expensive to fix.
2003 vw beetle rear window issues. 3 times this has happened where the rear window wont roll up. 3 times vw dealership charged us close to a thousand dollars to fix because of there design flaw. So many people have had this problem its time to investigate. . . Please! I have put the latest date this occurred, but as I say this has happened 3 times.
Defective window regulator - driver's side rear power window 2005 vw New Beetle Convertible.
Rear window regulator issue with 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible. After reading hundreds of blog complaints online in regards to the issue of the rear window regulators defaulting on these vehicles mine has also become inoperable. There needs to be a recall.
I have a 2005 vw beetle with 52k miles. A few weeks ago both rear windows quite working within a few days of each other.
2003 vw beetle convertible. Rear windows regulator/motors broke. Vw issued an extended warranty for front windows (7 years) rear windows have the same problem. Dealer wants $700. 00 per side to fix. Windows do not roll down on command. Often fall on their own after a bump in the road.
Rear window will not come up. Other rear window is locked in up position as it broke 8 mo. Ago. There seems to be alot of this problem on the new beatle all years. Time for a recall?.
The driver's side rear window regulator failed on my 2004 New Beetle Convertible today. After doing some research, this appears to be a very common problem but has yet caused a recall for defect parts from Volkswagen of America.
2005 vw beetle rear left window regulator has failed. The glass is not broken, and the motor works, but the window does not go up or down with the switch. It will move by pushing/pulling on it. I have noticed this same complaint on many websites. I did not see when the window failed, it happened just before I purchased it on July 13, 2010.
2004 vw convertible beetle needs the valve body replaced. Car only has 61,900 miles on it. Rear windows both have broken air bag switch needs to be replaced.
Driver side rear window regulator is broken. While rolling window down, I heard a loud snap. The window will only roll up half way, and then automatically rolls down again. I cannot secure my vehicle as the window will not go up. I brought the car to kimball Volkswagen, and they told me that it was a common problem with the window regulators, and that it is "re-occurring" problem! the cost to repair the window is $75 for the repair kit, and $105 per hour labor by the dealership. My neighbor has an 05' red convertible, he told me he has fixed the back windows three times! this is a consumer rip off. I have not fixed my window, because I cannot afford to, because the convertible top is now broken as well. A plastic rivot has broken off and now my convertible boot does not fold correctly! this of course is not under warranty.
Rear window regulator defect window will not go up or down.
My wife owns a 2004 vw New Beetle Convertible with power windows! the vehicle has only 40k on the odom. But the rear windows have had to be repairs multiple times! there are several TSB's on this issue posted by vw. They will not cover the cost of repairs and this is a concern! I am having the repairs completed again for the 4th time at a cost of $500. 00 total ridiculous!!.
Odi number: 10282664 hello, I have a 2003 vw new beetle turbo convertible with only 26,000 miles. I have had at least 5-6 repairs in the last two years. I'm the second owner of the car and purchased the car in 2008 after the warranty was up. Like many, I have had two problems with the rear window regulator on the left and right side in the last 6 months. The last repair to replace the right side window regulator was over $1,000 dollars and no the other side has the same problem. This should be a recall!.
My daughter drives a 2005 Volkswagen convertible. It has numerous safety issues: 1. The tail lights cease working although the bulbs are good. The bulb contacts are inadequate for both tail lights. This has occurred four times on her car in the past three years. 2. The convertible headliner pulls away from the rear window and droops in front of the rear window blocking the view in the rear view window. This has occurred 5 times in the past 4 years and she has stopped using the convertible top to prevent her from having a accident. 3. The power windows have failed while she was driving. The windows would not come up. This has happened three times in three years. These problems have been experienced by many vw owners (do a google search). They are all safety issues.
The epc light comes on all the time, even after being fixed. The window regulators break. The battery has had to be replaced twice. The cv boot broke.
Rolled the back window down on the passenger side, then when I went to roll it back up it failed and the window went down on its own. Window is now inoperable. Will have to replace back window regulator, New Beetle Convertible.
