This car is horrible! at 70,000 miles the car would jerk while it was driving. It was especially scarry if it started to jerk/kick while on the freeway. I got a new transmission, new engine. Then 20,000 miles later, it did it again and now Volkswagen said it needs a new transmission! again! more jerking, and it became worse after I took it to the dealership to get it fixed "under waranty" I will complain to the bbb as well. Horrible that I put so much money in only to be told that the car still wont work. Saftey problems as well.
Rear passenger window stuck down in 2005 New Beetle Convertible - there is apparently a nationwide backorder on this rear window regulator of at least 2 months which means this is a major problem affecting many vw drivers and vw should clearly have a recall - leaving my car with a window open is not at all ideal and I will have to carefully plan out where I park the car until the part is located and installed.
Defective window regulator: I have a 2006 New Beetle Convertible, which I bought new. No accidents, nothing of the sort. I was rolling up the drivers side window and heard a pop. Then the window would not move, and I could hear a grinding noise in the door. The window regulator had broken out of no where. Apparently this is a common issue, but one that costs up to $800 to fix at the dealership. I thought I could fix it myself, so I bought the repair kit from the dealership for $110, but it require a special tool that only the dealers have. How am I on the hook for such a poorly designed mechanism?.
2004 vw beetle convertible. Rear windows do not roll up or down. Rear windows regulator/motors broke. Design defect. Revised part. Dealer wants over $700. 00 per side to fix. Parts on national back order!!!!.
Left rear window regulator needs replaced. $675 for the repair. Left front window squeals when raising/lowering and sometimes when raising it - when it gets to the top it just pops back down and you have to raise it again. Suspect the regulator to be at fault on this window as well. The window regulator on vw products seem to have a pretty bad track record. What can be done to have vw step up and fix these shoddy parts? I can't afford to have this fixed! now I just have to keep driving with my window partially up.
I have 2005 vw beetle convertible with only 43351 miles on it. Recentlly I had to replace water pump due to the impleller being made of plastice attached to metal and now my rear window regulators have broken and wont roll up or down the windows. I paid $650. 00 to fix water pump and was told I could expect to replace it again in 40000 miles due to its poor manufacturing. This from a volkwagen mechanic. A week later the window regulators on my beetle also broke. Looking through the internet I found alot of complaints with Volkswagen for the same thing that im experiencing with my car. I can understand nothing is perfect it just seems to me that everyone experiencing the same type problems with similiar vehicles both year model and make and someone need to protect the consumer now. I hope enough people complain to institute a recall for volkwagen to act upon.
Both back window regulators went out just three days apart and the vw dealers wants $1,000. 00 to repair. Vw of America extended the front window regulators warranty but refuse to fix my back windows. I can not roll up my windows at all. They are stuck down inside the car.
Had a very hard time getting the top to come up enough to latch numerous times on a road trip. As suddenly as the problem started it went away. But when that problem stopped, I was left with a severe rattle on the passenger side and a quarter back window on the same side that looks mis-aligned with the front window and leaves a gap, lets wind in and quite often doesn't come completely shut. On October 6, I put my top down to drive about 5 miles home. When I got home, the top wouldn't come up. I got out and gently pulled on the top, got back in and eventually it came up. Exactly one week later, I put the top down and I noticed that the driver's side back 1/4 window was stuck halfway down. Tried to put it up and heard a nasty little sound which continued whenever I pressed the button for that window. I had to finally get a gentleman to help me pull it up. In the last couple of months I replaced the battery (a real whipping to get in and out) followed a week later by a driver's side front light bulb for which I was charged $100 and the mechanic did the change in less than 10 minutes. I've replaced back-up lights so many times I've actually learned how to do it myself. Vw of America needs to be forced to do something about the window regulators, top problems, electrical problems, transmission problems etc. Etc. I am a single female with no garage to park in if the quirky top and windows decide not to come up. I am also limited on budget and the design of this car causes labor charges that are astronomical to do the simplist of things. Pretty sure I have the window regulator problem where they want to charge $900 per side. The labor charge to replace a batter is over $100. The window problems have been going on with vw for a very long time. I've had 3 and had numerous window problems in every one of them.
Nothing led up to the failure. The windows in my New Beetle Convertible no longer function. I have had two of these fixed already, and now one of the back windows is broken. I noticed that this has been a problem for many other New Beetle Convertible owners as well. I am hoping that there is a recall to this issue as it effects so many other owners.
I have owned a 2003 and 2006 vw New Beetle Convertibles and have had 3 window regulators fail. All on the back side windows. This is dangerous because they fail for no reason. The last failure was 02/26/2011. I was driving on an interstate and put the window down and it would not roll back up. I was 50 miles away from home. This is very frustrating to happen for the 3rd time but different window each time.
Window regulators come apart and make a grinding noise. Windows fall into the door and will not go back up. Parts take at least a week to come in. Quite a problem in a convertible, the windows go up and down every time you open the doors. This has happened twice in the last 9 months. Volkswagen has no recall or defect reported. Volkswagen makes the part and gives it a 12 month or 12,000 mile manufacturers warranty but offers no guarantee the window regulators will not fail again and does not offer to cover the cost of repair when they do, outside 12 mos/12k miles. At $250 a door on a 3 year old car, I'm not looking forward to replacing these when they fail again.
Have had issues with the front automatic windows in this car since August 2008. In may 2010 the rear windows would go up part way and then go back down. I had repairs done (reinstalled window seal at a cost of $96. 00) then in September of 2011 the other rear window would not go up and the dealer said that I needed a "kit" to correct the problem of the cables binding up and keeping the window from going up. This repair cost $800. Today the other rear window will not go up and is making the familiar grinding sound. I suppect that I will need to go to the dealer and get a "kit" for this window which is the one that had the seal replaced on it. Another $800. 00 or so for something that will only temporarily fix this issue. I have only had the back windows down on this vehicle maybe a dozen times since I've owned it. This is clearly a cheap and faulty design by the manufacturer. If I do not continue to make these repairs I cannot properly secure my vehicle and risk damage or theft.
2004 vw beetle convertible both rear window regulator are defective and don't work.
Driver side rear window glass does not function properly, it is will not go up or down by using the auto glass operator.
My hard-shifting beetle's transmission needs replacing! I drove my last beetle for 10 years! now this car, only now 6 years old has a failing transmission? this began very slowly. When I had the car at the dealer for the airbag sensor recall I asked about it but we couldn't replicate it. Now they recall the valve body, a part within the transmission, yet vw has denied my claim to the warranty. They state my transmission is entirely ruined and the valve body replacement will not solve the problem now. Well what else could have caused this other than the faulty valve body? this car is completely unsafe to drive. The car lurches forward from neutral to 1st gear, then clunks through the rest of the gears. Please help get these dangerous cars off the road.
Transmission slipping in a 2005 Volkswagen beetle with 71,000 miles, I have been told by several repair shops that the manufacturer knows there is a problem with them but will not do anything about it. Driver's side rear window regulator became defective at 59,000 miles and when I contacted the manufacturer was told in order for them to assist with problem it must be diagnosed by a dealer. Drove 60 miles and was charged $100 to diagnose the problem (which I already knew what the problem was) and then was told that because of the mileage they could not help me. Manufacturer knew the mileage prior to requesting me to take to dealer. Cost of replacing a window regulator $600, there is a kit that can be installed, but of course that information is not given to the customer.
I have 2004 vw convertable beetle, my two back windows do not work and now my driver side window does not work. When will this existing problem be recalled for myself and other people who are having the same issue. The windows need to be recalled.
On April 25, 2008 we took our 2003 vw beetle convertible to our vw dealer for service and a complaint about the transmission shifting hard or clunking at times. They said the noise was the exhaust and adjusted it and signed off. That was not the problem. The hard shifting continued occasionally for some time. Then it started to happen more often and be more severe. On October 23, 2009, we returned to our dealer for service and told them again about our concerns about the hard shifting as we had on several occasions in the past. At this time they ran a diagnostic ($90. 00) on the transmission. They had to order a part and we returned on November 5, 2009 to have the cable installed. ($1406. 36) the problem got worse and we returned November, 10, 2009 for another diagnostic and another cable install. ($179. 78) still not fixed the car goes into limp mode when you try to drive it. We left the car with our dealer for them to try to find a used transmission. No luck. On December 2, 2009 we decided to contact a transmission shop a friend told us about. I called a transmission shop to pick up the car at our dealer and take it to their shop to look into rebuilding the transmission. All to no avail they could not get parts for that transmission. The next step was to look for a used one again. Still unable to locate a used transmission we decided to have a vw rebuilt transmission installed. ($5469. 60) this was done and the car was picked up on January 7, 2010. Now on December 14, 2010 we receive a letter that describes our original complaint about the hard shifting. The letter was extending the warranty on the transmission. I then sent a claim to vw to ask for reimbursement. That claim was not accepted.
