Brake Disc Rotor problems of the 1998 Volkswagen Passat

Six problems related to brake disc rotor have been reported for the 1998 Volkswagen Passat. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Disc Rotor problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2000

Took vehicle to dealer & was informed by mechanic that rack needed to be replaced due to power steering leaking fluid through it. Also rotors were replaced due to excessive wear. Fuel tank had collapsed & was not accepting any fuel.

2 Brake Disc Rotor problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2000

Brakes weren't working, brake and rotors replaced(rotors extremely thin-very unusual at this stage).

3 Brake Disc Rotor problem

Failure Date: 12/10/1999

Consumer took vehicle to dealer due to brake light warning on the instrument panel coming on, the dealer informed him that the brakes were ok, later dealer informed consumer that rotors were worn and that the rotors and brake pads needed to be replaced, consumer feels dealer should be responsible for paying for the defective brake rotors and pads.

4 Brake Disc Rotor problem

I have been advised that both front brakes require new rotors although pads have not worn through. Given the mileage, this seems like a defect. The manufacturer has declined to assist as the vehicle in no longer under warranty.

5 Brake Disc Rotor problem

The consumer took the vehicle to be serviced because the brakes were making noise, the dealer said the brakes were ok, at 22k miles consumer was told that the brake rotors and pads had to be replaced. Nlm.

6 Brake Disc Rotor problem

Curious if rotor defect is inherent in all vw Passats.
