One problem related to speed control cable has been reported for the 1999 Volkswagen Passat. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact stated without warning vehicle accelerated to over 100 mph. After the first incident the throttle cable was replaced. A month later it happened again, the dealer made repairs to the cable. The vehicle has been returned to the dealer a third time for the same problem. Currently the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem, and no additional repairs were made.
