The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that the air bag warning light and seat belt warning light were constantly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the seat belt assembly, piston, and sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 65,562.
Broken seatbelt sensor causes airbag fault. I am not sure now if airbag will work. Online search indicates many people have same problem. Airbag fault should be covered by recall because seatbelts should not fail under normal use after 105000 miles.
Rear passenger (driver side) seat belt will not retract and therefore could not be applied (buckle in) to passenger. Situation still exists.
Trunk has difficulty closing. Seat belt don't work properly. Airbag light along with the motor light turn on. These lights were never really fixed by the car dealer. The passenger back door does not lock most of the time leaving the car without the alarm working.
I purchased a second hand vehicle on 1/11/10 from koeppel Volkswagen inc and at the time of delivery our sales person tells us to bring it back because has mechanical problems that need to be fixed including passenger front seatbelt that I was not able to put on after he pulled last night. Today I called asking the manager of the dealer how is it possible to sell a car with safety defects and he stated that this is not true and if that's the case to bring it in for repair . How this car passed safety inspection.
