Tl the contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Passat. While the vehicle was parked, oil was noticed on the ground under the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a loose seal on the motor that caused the leak. The contact stated that the seal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired because the contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 17v509000 (fuel system, gasoline). The parts were not available for the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall remedy. Neither the local Volkswagen dealer nor the manufacturer were notified. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
