I purchased a second hand vehicle on 1/11/10 from koeppel Volkswagen inc and at the time of delivery our sales person tells us to bring it back because has mechanical problems that need to be fixed including passenger front seatbelt that I was not able to put on after he pulled last night. Today I called asking the manager of the dealer how is it possible to sell a car with safety defects and he stated that this is not true and if that's the case to bring it in for repair . How this car passed safety inspection.

The rear middle seat belt on the car got stuck (or locked). No accident or misuse of the equipment happened. It happened when I was reinstalling my child seat. Now, I am unable to install the child seat. It is a big safety issue and I recommend the government have the manufacturer fix it. There are several other complaints about this incident that I could find when searching on the internet. Not sure if they have officially been reported to the government. Please feel free to reach me if you need more information.

The contact owns a 2000 Volkswagen Passat. While driving at high speeds, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle veered off the road and dropped down approximately one foot. The vehicle flipped over three times. The air bags deployed, but the driver's side seat belt failed. The contact was pinned halfway out of the vehicle with the other half underneath the vehicle. He suffered severe head trauma and passed away at the scene. The other passenger, who was the owner of the vehicle, suffered minor injuries, a concussion, and minor cuts and bruises. A police report was filed. He believes that the seat belt in the vehicle should have restrained his body within the vehicle. He has not called the manufacturer, but a friend referred him to NHTSA. He believes that the seat belt was defective. The current and failure mileages were 95,000. Updated 2/2/09

Shoulder belt in center rear position is fully retracted and locked, making it unusable. Unknown cause this time. This is the second time it happened to us. The first time, we folded down the rear seat for cargo and then were unable to pull it back up. The first time, the retractor was replaced under warranty. Estimate to replace it this time is $450. Additional reports of the problem were found in discussion groups on the internet.

Failure of air bag system caused by failure of the micro switch in driver's seat belt buckle. Fault occurred at 52,000 miles, at 104% of the original warranty. Manufacturer refused to acknowledge responsibility for failure by replacing part. Car had never been in an accident or any other traumatic event.
The front and rear seat belts on the left side of my Passat are defective. The drivers belt has been 'lazy' in retracting from time to time but it's 'normal' now. However, my left rear seat belt has been laying detracted on my seat for about 3 months now simply because nobody ever sits back there and I'm always driving this car for work. . Read more...

2001 Volkswagen Passat notice to manufacturer, memorandum of facts and request for compensation. (nar). After the vehicle was returned tot he consumer after service, the consumer noticed that the front passengers side seat belt was inoperable. A month later the vehicle's engine stalled while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that the #4 coil failed.
Seat belts never raval all the way (minor issue), air conditioner gets cold only for about a minute (once again minor), and now it misfires on cylinders 5 and 6. I have replaced both O2 sensors, the coil pack (3 times), ignition wires (twice), spark plugs (twice in 4,000 miles), and the ecu. Still misfires after 3 shops and the dealer having it twice for about 2 weeks straight (ken garff orem vw/Audi dealership). They told me "there is nothing we can do", vw America said "there is nothing we can do, those dealerships are independent from us". The dealer the first time I brought it in, broke some engine coverings, that I had to complain about to have them decide to replace. The next round I got the car back and the hood was poped a little bit but closed (I live 2 miles from the dealer). So I decided to take a look and not to my suprise, they left a few engine components unbolted and sitting in the engine compartment. They also left their tools and the bolts in small casim parts of the sheet metal. The wire harness was looked at and they convieniently left the wires cut but not all the way through. Vw America all through this said only that I can complain and that they will "note this in my record, but thats all we can do. " they haven't even offered to help me find a new dealer or tell me a typical way to fix a misfire.
