My 2012 Volkswagen Passat s has power windows. Over the course of the last two or three days of cold temperatures (nights down to 5 degrees f. , and daytime highs in range of 25 degrees on 12/3/11; 20 degrees on 12/4, and 15 degrees on 12/5), my power windows have now "frozen up", at all four door positions. The motors operate--windows make about a 1/16th inch up or down movement when you try the window switches, but the windows are "stuck" in the up position. I have called the vw dealer, and they have said "there may be some moisture in there. " no ice or snow is visible near the windows or the joint where they enter their respective doors. Colorado weather conditions of intermittent cold, dry snows have called for brushing off snow on several occasions, and the car has been driven at several intermittent times over the past several days. The neighbors on my block in a residential section of denver have numerous cars which are and have been similarly parked on the same curb in the same weather and conditions-- BMW. Nissan(s), Toyota(s), infinity, Honda, older vw, and none of their cars have had any issue. Likewise, my previous car, a 2001 vw Passat was regularly parked in the same spot over the years in many similar weather circumstances, without such a failure. I believe this 2012 vw Passat, which is all new, and built in a new us plant may have utilized some type of inadequate motor size (too weak to overcome a small amount of frozen moisture?) or poorly designed window rub strips in the door channel that either admit too much moisture down into the window channel, or overreact to any freezing. In any case, having a brand new car that can't or won't allow windows to open is very frustrating, and along mountain and other colorado roads, a crash could end up with the car in river or lake water, in which case, lowering a window may save a life.
Heater core let go and created a uncontrollable fog in the inside of the car. Tried to get to side of the road and almost hit a truck because I couldnt see. Smoke(or steam) was pouring from the car even after I stopped plus the fact that I inhaled the coolent fumes.
Volkswagon Passat air conditioner quit working. I took it to the dealer, where all the service has been performed since the car was new. They call and tell me that the compressor has gone bad, and when it failed it contaminated the whole air conditioning system, which include the evaporator, compressor and fluid and that they all need to be replaced and system needs to be flushed. Our car has about 43000 miles and has been "in service" for 4 years and 3 months, which is three months out of warranty. The dealer said they have been doing a lot of these repairs. I think it is way to early for these components to fail. My truck is 10 years older and still has all the original air conditioning parts and work perfectly. I think they need to recall these compressors and take care of this problem.
I've had to get my 2005 pasat fixed 3 tiems for engine sludge issues and it's happening to it again. It has cost me nearly $4000 and counting.
Coils for cylinders 2-4 inexplicably failed as well as the plugs and need to be replaced in order to repair misfire code. Engine purge valve also needs to be replaced.
There are severe toxic odor's (voc's) coming from the bottom of the carpet insulation of the interior if the car. It is so potent that I have sore throats , heqadaches and feel light headed during and after I drive the 2006 valkswagon Passat. This odor/voc has almost caused me to faint due to the severe alergic reaction I have to it. I have to have all windows open to even drive the automobile. After seacrhing the internet under "volkswagon crayon smell" there are hundreds are similiar complaints about volkswagon cars where they have found the interior sound insulation mat under the carper floor to be the cause. I need my car and I can't drive it like this as it is unsafe for my health and I fear this "crayon odor" could cause me to have a car accident. I have tried to enlist vw America and they state they are not aware of the issue , however, there are hundreds, if not thousand complaints that they have received from this toxic odor that is coming into the passenger cabin of their cars especially the 2006 Passat. This toxic crayon odor is present at all times , it is not dependent on the car running (being on) what so ever. . Please help!!!.
Traveling down the street and smelled smoke. Smoke began emitting from under the dash and vehicle cut off. Fire department was called and extinguished the fire. Vehicle was a total loss.
Rear view mirror was pulled off windshield by a 2 yr old, mirror separated at the ball-and-socket hinge with the base remaining glued to the windshield. No apparent damage to the mirror. Pushing mirror back together shattered the windshield in the area of the mirror. It is possible that pulling the mirror apart had already damaged the windshield (not checked before trying to put the mirror back together). I would have expected the mirror to unglue from the windshield or break before the windshield broke.
My vw 2006 passot sedan has always had a windshield fogging problem when the DE-fogger is turned on, the winshield foggs up compleatly, then takes 30 to 45 seconds to clear. I've complained about the situation to trend motors of rockaway NJ several times and have been told that this is normal. And I should put the air conditioner on and that will clear up the problem. Eventually the winshield does clear but, I cannot see thru the winshield for 30 to 45 seconds. I believe this is a dangerous hazard.
The first things that is happen is that my digital insturment panel blink in and out and the second is that water be running in the car compartment on the passager side.
My complaint is more general in nature. I purchased a 2002 Volkswagen Passat in 2001. This was the first car I purchased brand new. As I think back over the time that I've had this vehicle and reading the complaints that have been logged in on this site, I can't help but think that Volkswagen should offer some type of substantial "hardship" reimbursement besides repairs and such. In the time that I've had this vehicle, I've had the following incidents occur: 1. Have a control unit replaced (horn not working, unable to roll down windows, etc. . ) 2. Replace ignition coil (stop motor status light coming on as I'm driving in the midst of traffic) 3. Had undershield fall forward as I was driving on the state highway, pretty much scooping up potential debris from the roadway surface. 4. Damage to engine from oil sludge and oil pump replacement no less than three times. (stop motor light again) 5. Interior of car flooded and frozen over from sunroof flaw and electronics are affected. . . Just on merits of being able to provide proof of ownership of the vehicle and showing that these services were indeed rendered at a Volkswagen authorized repair facility, I believe that at minimum, Volkswagen should agree to reimburse all expenses, no questions asked. It's become clear that the quality of these vehicles was substantially sub-par and poorly designed all things considered. The car is currently in my parents driveway, as the last time the oil pump went caused so many issues that I ended up not being able to drive the car (live and work out of state now and registration expired the same month the pump went then couldn't afford insurance after repairs). To add insult to injury, I didn't receive the claim notice about fixing the sunroof issue until a year later, as it went to my old address and now it's too late to even file the claim. All I want is have a reliable car to operate without worrying about if I'm gonna have skip lunch because I spent all my money on repairs.
Due to a design flaw with all Passats 1998 and up they are prone to having major failure of tcm transmission control module as in cases of heavy rain water will leak into passenger floor area and fill the tcm with water hence locking transmission into park and no longer allowing vehicle to be shifted. . .
I own a 2001 vw Passat 1. 8 and I just got some info on oil sluged I been having that problem a long time and dealer always siad it was the oil pump or some thing else my father has the same problem with his Passat first the light comes on and then the engine startes to make noise we always change the oil with the recomended oil and still the problem in order to use the car after the light comes on you have to park the car and find another way to move around and try a couple of hours later to see if the noise and the light is gone my car ipayed 7900 9 months ago and it has 138000 and its not far for vw say your not coverd I come from a vw family my mom has a 06 jetta my dad a 99 Passat my brother has a 03 golf my sister has a 07 golf and just to allow to just say sorry cant help you knowwing that their are cars with more miles than 120 out their and even thy have records of us having service hour car with them it is not write.

My car is 2 yrs old its a vw Passat. Has stopped on the highway several times while I was driving. The fuel pump was replaced several times along with the computer. Also got a parking brake malfunction sign popped up, the car was taken to service where it was repaired. Now my car has completely shut down again and is in service yet again. Please help.
I purchased a new 2005 vw Passat and needed to have two of the ignition coils replaced. In both situations, the car suddenly lost power creating a dangerous situation. In addition to losing power, the check engine light starting flashing and I needed to exit the roadway. I disposed of that vehicle and purchased a certified pre-owned 2005 vw Passat 4 motion. I have now had to have one of the ignition coils replaced. Again I was driving along and the vehicle suddently lost power and started running very rough. This time I was in an area with very little population and a severe snow storm without cell service.
Driving on 267 east virginia in morning parking brake indicator light came then car immediately was unable to accelerate and shut down causing near life ending accident, navigated to side of toll road based on forward motion in car at which time car completely shut off and was unable to start. Vehicle was towed to local dealership. At time of pick up ass service manager at vw indicated they are aware this is occurring but have not issued a full recall. While on the side of the road after almost being in a tragic accident car was almost clipped as it looked like I was a lane. Requested vehicle buyback vw refused. Vw was are of the potential problem but has not informed customers prior to purchase or ongoing. Letters for 2009 customers issued. Turning over to legal, explore class action.
Crv boot--I had my left front crv boot replaced 12/2010. Dealship says I need front right and two rear crv boots replaced 10/2011. I drive 14 miles rt to work-no rough terrain-with only 42000-48000 I need all replaced-does'nt seem right and $200. 00 per boot I purchased this vehicle new.
Oil pump failure leading to engine falue. Requiring engine replacement.
Heard a loud "whirring" noise when the steering wheel was turned left or right when car was stationary - like it needed steering fluid - but it does not use fluid. Also having sporadic trouble with the car not starting when the key fob was put into the ignition. Vw replaced clock spring, steering rack & pinion, as well as the steering rack 3 times so far. The second time they replaced these parts, they obviously didn't test drive it. Cars front tires made loud noise - like I had on snow tires. I brought it back in for steering noise (still) and now the tires, and they had to replace both front tires due to "cupping" which was caused by incorrect installation of the steering rack. 20,000 miles later I still hear the noise, but now that my car has been "escalated" by vw, they now claim that this noise is normal. I feel that this is a serious safety issue, and do not feel comfortable driving the car.
Excessive external car noise while idle. Loud noise in motor area when starting car. Nothing can be done according to reydel Volkswagen dealership and shrewsbury volkwagen dealership. I have researched and found other customer have complained about this same issue and has not been handled by Volkswagen corporation.
The car would not start. Took multiple attempts. Dealer replaced a module. Problem reoccurred. Dealer replaced relay. Problem reoccurred. Dealer now needs to replace entire steering rack for $2,000, but car is out of warranty and vw will not cover. Many owners are having similar problems .
2006 vw Passat bought 14 months ago in shop 3 times, thermostat fixed my expense, coils replaced vw expense, car has 90000 miles and am being told camshaft needs replacing along with fuel pump - noticed numerous complaints online with the same issue. P2293 code on and off for 3 months vw is no help except for pay for repairs.
Dec 12th 2008 the interior of my passt was flooded with water, vw service removed 10 + gallons of water which entered from air plenum /pollen filter hosing(cabin area). Service informed me of the p9 recall for the Passats manufactured Nov '00 to Dec '05. But, vw of America will not help me they said my VIN # is not in the recall. The computers are on the floor of car. Air bag is in default damage from electrical damage from water damage. . My trans mod is wrecked from the water damage, just the part alone will cost $1,300. I have lost work and can not drive. The make of car & year is in recall so why is my VIN not included?! someone please, please help me.
10-30-08(40,350 miles) my mechanic replaces #1 coil due to computer code alert 11-25-08(40,420 miles) replaced #3 ignition coil & temp sensor by vw dealer due to engine light on. 3-12-09(44,965) replace #4 ignition coil as malfunction indicator light came on, car chugged/hesitated. Complained to vw corporate, was reimbursed. 3-16-09(45,100 miles) replace # 2 coil by my mechanic at my request as given the history I feared it would malfunction 11-28-09(53,631 miles)all 4 coils replaced by vw with different model coil due to recall 11-24-10(65,794) replace engine speed sensor and #1 & #2 coils by vw due to epc light coming on. Fault in computer stated # 1 & # 2 coils misfiring. Vw paid for coil replacement.
Gosh where do I start vw Passat 51000 miles alot of things went wrong. . Car starter volks came out causing the starter to break my trunk doesn't close pops open in the middle of road/freeway causing me to loose thing from my trunk extremely dangerous in the freeway my steering wheel lock is defected does not lock I have called numerous of vw dealer ships and they want to charge me cause its warranty expired and for steering lock I went before warranty and they want to charge me 90 dollars I don't have that kind of money lying around I have car payment. 2000 volkswagon Passat 1. 8t automatic transmission purchased used in 2007. The under carriage protectant shield for engine looked to be melted from heat and came off on the hwy while vechicle was in motion. Damaged right wheel well.
The contact owns a 1999 Volkswagen Passat. While driving approximately 55 mph in dry conditions, the accelerator pedal became stuck. The vehicle accelerated uncontrollably over 90 mph. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by applying maximum pressure to the brake pedal and shifting into neutral. He was able to pull to the side of the road without a crash. The vehicle was towed to a shop and it was discovered that the floormats were the cause of the failure. The manufacturer stated that there were no recalls for the floormats. The vehicle was equipped with the original rubber floormats. The contact had to replace the front and rear brakes due to the failure. The current and failure mileages were 150,000. Updated 4/25/08 the floor mat became lodge under the gas pedal.

There is a fire report but the contact does not have a copy. There were no deaths, injuries and no police report. The current and failure mileages are 40000.
A fire occurred in the passenger compartment of my 2000 Volkswagen Passat 4motion wagon. The fire occurred while I was traveling east on us 80 near auburn. My life was saved because a county sheriff was traveling behind me and summoned the fire department and police as I hurried to exit CA 49 at auburn, California. Flames and smoke filled the passenger compartment, which the fire department flooded. The car has been totaled. I have instructed my insurance company, aaa, not to destroy the car for parts in light of the vw safety recall 26e5/rf (1999-2002 model year Volkswagen Passat and Passat wagon. ) I incurred considerable expense (car rentals over the six months that aaa insurance took to settle the claim). I have also had to purchase a new vehicle at a cost to me of more that $25,000 over the paid claim. I would like to be made whole, following this costly and extremely dangerous situation. The fire department and aaa determined that the fire was an electrical fire that began in the electrical system behind the dashboard in the passenger compartment. Mary coady.

When making a turn from a stop position, the car stalls. This also happens when going forward into traffic. I have reported this to the dealer on several occasions but they were unable to solve the problem. I feel this is a very dangerous situation. The mechanic went on a test drive with the consumer and he noticed that she drove with both feet, the mechanic explained that the transmission could not determine if the vehicle should sstop or go forward when turning, and therefore it stalled. The consumer stated she has made an effort to use only one foot and the problem seemed to be resolved. Updated 10/31/07.

I own a 2000 v6 Passat with 80500 miles. My catalytic converter banks 1 and 2 have been diagnosed as not effective enough necessitating a catalytic converter replacement. Vw USA refused to offer me assistance with the replacement of this catalytic converter, pointing out that the warranty for this item expired 500 miles ago. I find this unacceptable and hope that the federal government does not allow this car manufacturer to shirk its responsibility to its consumers and to the environment.
We purchased a used 2002 Passat and during a storm, the passenger floor became filled with water, coming through the glove compartment. Dealer could not locate entry of water from hose at dealership so we changed to another 2002. On July 21, during a storm, the passenger side filled with rain on the floor but not through the glove compartment. On July 30, the driver floor was filled with water from a storm. But the passenger side was dry. Since this car is only a few years old, is this a defect?.
A water leak in either the sunroof drainage tubes or pollen filter caused 2" of water to fill the passenger front/rear of my 2003 vw Passat. There is currently a terrible smell of mold/milder in the vehicle. Upon researching this problem on the internet, it was found that numerous vw owners have the same problem.
¿07/19/2006: purchased a brand new 2006 Volkswagen Passat 04/13/2007: radio will not eject cd- the stereo system had to be replaced due to faulty radio 12/06/2007: car will not start called tow company, upon arrival checked battery and it was not the problem; tow company could not get the car to start; car was towed to lasher Volkswagen 12/14/2007: car will not start again, same issue as before on 12/06/2007; called the tow company and had it towed to lasher dealership; after numerous calls back and forth, vw dealership and manufacturer cannot figure out the problem nor have they fixed the vehicle yet 01/12/picked up the vehicle from lasher vw seemed to work okay 01/14/while driving home from work, door locks began to unlock and lock by themselves and while driving on the freeway; also, suddenly light indicators (blinkers) did not work, high beams did not work, windshield wipers did not work, steering wheel indicator light came on, tire pressure light came on, cruise control light came on; this was an extremely dangerous situation 01/17/while driving to berkeley, on the freeway, the blinkers stopped working, and could not get the windshield wipers to work; locks began to lock and unlock while driving; telephone call again, to lasher vw to express great concern and worried about being stranded; was told to bring it in on Friday 01/1/08 at 7:30 am; once we arrived in berkeley, we parked the car and turned off the ignition the radio was still on and the headlights did not shut off; we started up the car again and the same thing happened; when locking the car with the alarm, the doors locked but the alarm did not turn on; lights remained on for about 20 minutes, fearing that the battery would run low and we would be stranded 08/05/took the car to elk grove vw and told that warranty will not cover any of the repairs 10/24/09-12/14/the car has not been able to start since 10/23/09 and sitting in our garage & now at neillo vw.
Odor entering the passenger compartment through the ventilation system when the recirculation button for the a/c is turned off. The local dealer attempted, with our success, 5 times to fix the problem. I am concerned that the odor will have health implications.

Over time leaves collected in the battery compartment of my '99 Volkswagen Passat. This led to rain water leaking into the passenger compartment and corroding the ecu under the driver's seat. The alarm and locks started working on their own and the vehicle would no longer start. The initial reaction from Volkswagen was to "cheaply fix" and the sell the car as soon as possible because it would have lifelong problems without a "proper fix" which would cost more than the car was worth (~$6-$8k).
My Passat had two previous instances of water leakage in the floor of the back seat, where the computer is housed. This resulted in a short-circuit in the cars computer in the fall of 2005, causing the car to slow in traffic and ultimately stop when I reached dealership. Maroone Volkswagen of delray beach addressed these two instances under warranty by focusing on the pollen filter and pollen filter caging. On the third occasion, I again took it to maroone Volkswagen on September 6, 2006 since this seemed to be another recurrence of the same problem. Dealer would not fix under warranty. Service advisor said cowl had a hairline fracture, which was allowing water under my hood and into the car. However, cowl was intact on previous visits for same problem. Contacted vw of America who accepted dealers diagnosis. This is especially troubling given there is a wealth of information online posted by Passat owners experiencing the same leakage problem that I describe above, and it is not due to cowl. I bought a 2002 Passat wagon glx certified used at lindsay vw in sterling va. I have only had the car 10 months. I had my car washed the week before June 27th, my car is garage kept day and night. We had bad rain storms in the washington DC area which I did not drive in the first day. . . The second day I did get caught in a rain storm but it was not unusually hard and I did not go through and large puddles. When I got home I noticed a ton of water had collected on the floor of the drivers side of the car. The lights began to flicker and go on and off. . . The electrical system was not working. . . So I called the dealer who informed me this was the case with a lot of their customers and could be a backed up drain from the sunroof. He said to have to car towed in . . . Which I did. I then heard from the dealer two days later who said there were some leaves in the windshield wiper catch and that was what caused the water to pool into the car. . . It was not covered under warranty essentially my fault and the repair consisted of gutting the interior replacement of carpet and electrical boxes under drivers side etc. That is would be expensive. . Parts alone estimated over 1k. I was shaken. . . He said he had to break the news to a lot of customers. . . I have checked message boards and this seems to be a very common and costly problem for a lot of Passat vw owners. This seems that if so many people are having a problem there must be a design flaw. I am still trying to appeal the fact I have to pay with the dealer. . Have not yet heard from them in 3 days. Vw needs to pay or recall and fix these problems. Thank your for your help.
Severe flood damage inside the rear passenger side foot well of my 2002 Volkswagen Passat. Flooding occurred after a moderate rain. Could find no blocked drains in the sun roof of the pollen filter.
Following recent heavy rains my 2002 vw Passat wagon engine light came on and engine ran a bit rough at times. $1989 repairs are traced to a "cracked pollen filter housing" that allowed water to enter cabin and throw off control modules located under the front seats.
2006 vw Passat 3. 6 two weeks ago a noise appeared quite suddenly. Originally thought the car in front of me had a bad muffler. Noise coming from front, right of car. Almost sounded like a baseball card in your bike spokes but louder and deeper. Starts at around 50 mph. Tone and speed of sound decreases as speed of car decreases but otherwise stays constant. Disappears when you take your foot off gas. Took it to carter vw. They heard sound. Told me that air pressure in front, right tire was at max and so they let some air out and that "fixed" the problem. It did not. Since I had not had the tire pressure changed since I bought the car in Nov - I found it hard to believe that would fix that problem and told them that. Will take it to chaplins vw, which is much closer to home.
Clogged drain,for sun roof,causes water build up on rt. Side floor of car,electronic module($800. 00),not water proof,creates mixed signals-airbag fault have serviced-engine lubrication fault "stop engine"--there defect,they don't pay due to "water exclusion"-carpeting $1,400. 00-"water exclusion!!!!!.
Every time it rains, rear passenger floor is filled with water. Dealer tried to repair line from sun roof, but problem is not fixed.

Twice the floor board in the right back seat flooded due to an improperly installed pollen filter. The second flooding caused my auto transmission module to short and put the car in limp mode.
My driver side window fell within the door yesterday as I was pushing the button to bring it down. (the same thing happened two years ago with my passenger side back door. Vw replaced it at no cost once I found out about the silent recall. They were originally going to charge me $350. ) this time, they said it is not covered under warranty since it is past the time frame. When I explained that they were aware of the problem when I initially brought it in, but did not fix all of the windows that it should still be covered. They disagreed. It is not normal for a window to fall in on a 6-year old car. Plus, to have it happen 2x in one car!.
98 vw Passat have had nothing but one problem after the other with this vehicle. Just had to replace my oil pump now my timing belt went and destroyed my engine. After I see that this has happened to several others I believe vw should take care of this expense. I have had to go through the expense of the front control arms, speed sensor etc. My car has been in the garage more than I have drove it. Problems with transmission.

Headlights fails proper function. They have been replaced. Seat belts and sun roof do not work properly. Engine replaced; steering wheels - car pulls to the right everytime an alignment was done and they calibrated the wheels. - problem continued - this problem caused the tires to be destroyed in a few kms - less 20 000; water infiltration - for now it is fixed; trunk was hard to open and close - problem fixed. Front doors vibrated - the rubber of the doors are being exhibiting signs of damage; the front glass ( windscreen ) isn't from the same year of all the others.

The sunroof opens and closes by it self, opens and doesn't close by it self while driving my 1998 volkswagon Passat. It first opened/closed by it self in January, 2005. It scared me and was/is unbelieveable. It didn't happen again until a month later, the sunroof would slide back 3/4 of the way and then close by itself. I took the car into royal volkswagon in FL on 02/28/05 and in addition to regular service I asked to check the sunroof. I was told they were "unable to duplicate customer concerns. No repairs recommended at this time. ".

On August 16, 2003, we were driving on the new jersey parkway in our 1997 Volkswagen Passat station wagon when the clutch pedal broke. After having it towed to our mechanic, he confirmed that the clutch was fine but that the pedal had broken, a failure he had never seen before.

Aig is attempted to collect on a policy I dispute, not a claim dispute and I don't know who to contact for assistance and mediation. Basically, I feel they changed my policy and rate without giving me a quotation. I would like to send you the entire history and letter I have drafted for the collection agency. I have contacted aig and they are not willing to work with me.

My 2002 Passat is less than 6 mths old (5,500 miles) and a coil malfunctioned. My car was towed to the vw dealer where I was told they will replace the failed coil, but none of the others, even though they admit that they will most likely fail. I will now be driving around waiting for my car to breakdown. As a single female, I don't find this to be a safe alternative.
I purchased my 2002 vw Passat on August 21, 2002. After less than 3000 miles, I had to have one of the ignition coils replaced. Today, at 5146 miles, I had to have another ignition coil replaced. That is two times in less than 2 months that I have had to take my car in for repairs. The repairperson informed me that vw has been having this problem on all of the 1. 8 turbos and that it is not really a matter of if the next one goes out, but when.
Seat belts never raval all the way (minor issue), air conditioner gets cold only for about a minute (once again minor), and now it misfires on cylinders 5 and 6. I have replaced both O2 sensors, the coil pack (3 times), ignition wires (twice), spark plugs (twice in 4,000 miles), and the ecu. Still misfires after 3 shops and the dealer having it twice for about 2 weeks straight (ken garff orem vw/Audi dealership). They told me "there is nothing we can do", vw America said "there is nothing we can do, those dealerships are independent from us". The dealer the first time I brought it in, broke some engine coverings, that I had to complain about to have them decide to replace. The next round I got the car back and the hood was poped a little bit but closed (I live 2 miles from the dealer). So I decided to take a look and not to my suprise, they left a few engine components unbolted and sitting in the engine compartment. They also left their tools and the bolts in small casim parts of the sheet metal. The wire harness was looked at and they convieniently left the wires cut but not all the way through. Vw America all through this said only that I can complain and that they will "note this in my record, but thats all we can do. " they haven't even offered to help me find a new dealer or tell me a typical way to fix a misfire.

Brand new 2002 vw Passat with 2,500 miles - ignition coil failed. Car was towed to dealership and was not repaired for 21 days. Only one coil was replaced even though they stated all 4 coils are defective. I offered to pay out of pocket to replace all the coils and they refused stating they did not have enough to go around. This car should not be driven long distances and certainly not on the highway knowing full well the other 3 coils are defective and are expected to break -- by tully volkswagon of nashua new hampshire's own admission. There should be a total recall on this vehicle immediately. Only 3,000 miles accumulated so far and I'm concerned about highway driving! ridiculous. Ts.

Only 1 month after fixing the same problem, the system shorted out again, leaving the climate control system, the cruise control, garage door opener, and other items inoperative.
While traveling on the highway and without prior warning, acid start leaking from the battery. Dealership is aware of the problem. The invoice stated that the battery was leaking acid down on to the power steering rack causing the boot to split, throwing fluid out of the rack. Also the dip stick plastic was broken.

I have advised them of recall list before purchasing to take the vehicle to the nearest vw dealership to fix the problem. Since, I am stationed in germany could I take my 1998 Passat to germany vw dealership in stuttgart to replace all recall parts? I do believe replacement of recalled part. Vehicle has had the check engine warning light on three times. The dealer states that Volkswagen has a problem with 2002 computer in Passats. Dealer states Volkswagen must write new computer code to remedy this problem. I have been told that this will take up to two weeks. I was not informed at the time of purchase that a problem existed in 2002 Passat software.
Emissions workshop light comes on, then engine check lamp shows on dash. Dealer replaced air pump, said that a hose was loose and never found the problem. Vw of America was contacted along with the customer service rep at the dealer. We had to trade the car becauce the problem could not be repaired. I have not contacted an attorney at this time. Why is vw allowed to sell cars that they cannot repair? I would like to be compensated for our financial loss as well as for our time and trouble.
1999 Passat engine seized due to a oil pump failure. The consumer had the oil leak repaired on 5 different occasions. The consumer had other problems with the vehicle such as a faulty drive shaft, right cv joint, the glove compartment latch, the control knob for the side view mirrors, the heater control unit, engine control unit, water pump seal rings, a power steering leak which was had to be fixed twice, the coolant pump, o-rings and the oil pump and pump rod bearings. There is a noise coming from the rear right wheel, oil is leaking from the valve covers.
I purchased my 2002 volks Passat GLS. I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. My radio quit, I had the speakers replaced twice, I had the heater blower motor replaced, I had the ignition coils replaced 3 times (recall), wv campaign (recall), sludge in the engine (recall), the right wheel tire hull reinforced (recall). I have talked with Volkswagen corporate office and have an active complaint number. Their customer service is terrible both at the corporate and dealer level. The Volkswagen dealer in auburn, wa is inept and has put the wrong oil in the my car 2 times. I would like volkwagen to buy-back my car or give me a life-time warranty on the car. Any ideas? there have been too many incidents to list just one. It has been an ongoing problem.

Engine check light intermittently came on. Vehicle would sometimes just stop. On October 18, 2000 while traveling at 65mph on freeway vehicle just stopped. Consumer almost got hit 3 times trying to get the vehicle off road. Vehicle has been taken to dealer 8 tmes. They have tried many things to rectify problem. Consumer has contacted arbitration for assistance. Once consumer had contacted them they tried unplugging computer and chips to see why light comes on. Volkswagen finally said to replace computer.
Our main comment is that this vehicle was sold to our daughter illegally. We then found that the mileage indicator had been rolled back.
