1 Wheel problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/30/2021

On Saturday October 30, 2021 my car was parked on the driveway. I tried to put the key in the ignition and the key would not go in. There is a white plastic piece in the ignition that will not allow the key to go in. My steering wheel and front tires locked. I called aaa and had a tow truck come so that I could have the car towed to the dealership. The driver was able to wiggle the key and start the car. I dropped off the car at the dealership on Saturday oct 30th. I was told by the dealership that the key cylinder and steering wheel lock housing plus keys need to be replaced. I contacted vw of America and was told that they will not replace the part because the car is out of warranty. This is obviously a defect as there have been many recalls with this part in different model vw's. The dealership is trying to charge me $934. 03 for this repair which I believe is a defect. Service advisor at Volkswagen stated that it is not safe to drive the car as it could leave me stranded. There were no warning lights or other symptoms prior to failure on Saturday October 30, 2021.

2 Wheel problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/05/2021

Purchased on 08/05/2021. The suspension in the rear right passenger side. Went on a 5 minute test drive with yancey cobb who stated there was nothing wrong with the car and that I needed to call the finance company and finalize the deal or I wouldn't have a car. Meaning I couldn't get my traded car back either. They shut the dealership down on me and left me on the lot to retrieve my articles from one car to the next and there was no gas in the car because the gas light was on. They gave no paperwork. I had no idea there was no warranty until I took it to heritage harford rd who gave the car back broken. 3 times. They keep saying they can't duplicate the problem. I contacted the bbb and they mike molnar lied and said he contacted me. Never responded to the rebuttal. I contacted Volkswagen customer care via twitter with stephani s. Nothing. I went to country dubbs, nothings wrong, brooks huff, nothing wrong. T&s auto, nothing. This vehicles stops traffic everyday on york rd. I've contacted the fairtrade commission. Nobody will help with this issue. It sways, it wiggles, the wheel rides like it's bent, it feels like it sticks at times and looks like crap on the road, but nody knows what's wrong. I've called antwerpen corporate. Spoke to aileen sanders who won't return my calls after telling me there was no paperwork in the jacket for the deal. Who sells a car at 19k miles on it with no warranty, they don't give you a bill of sale, and they treat women like dirt. They have so many negative and sheisty reviews on their website. Why are car dealers such liars and cheats. I don't want this car for all the hassle and deception and a note on a car that's been broke since the turn of the key for me.

3 Wheel problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/27/2020

This past Sunday, my son was driving on 95 and the driver's side front wheel exploded off the car while driving. He did not hit anything, nor did he get a flat tire. The metal holding the tire literally broke, the wheel came off the car causing the car to drop on the front axle while he was doing 65 mph on the highway.

4 Wheel problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/17/2020

As I was driving on shiver pond rd. In camden, SC I notice a pothole was on the right side of the road and there was no way for me to avoid it at the time because another vehicle was driving on the opposite side of the road. Immediately the tire went down and I had to pull over and call for help to get a spare on. I had to go buy another tire for $90 from walmart.

5 Wheel problem of the 2020 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/25/2020

I was driving down the highway south shore in randolph MA stoughton exits and I heard a pop in my driver side rear tire and when I pulled over I checked my tire and my tire was completely flat and there was a hole approximately the size of a hand gun bullet hole in my rim. I was going a little under the speed limit due to having a 3 year old in the vehicle in the far right slow lane. The following morning I went to get the tire inspected it was confirmed there was a huge piece of glass in my tire.

7 Wheel problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/21/2020

While going through a curve, if attempt to slow down, my brakes seem to make some type of scraping sound and I can feel the scrape or vibration of the problem through the pedal.

8 Wheel problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/22/2020

Within 55,000 miles I needed to replace both of my front wheel bearings, for an approximate cost of $1,000. I have done some research and talked to many people and found out that wheel bearings should not go bad on a car with 60k miles. It would be understandable if one went bad due to a defect but both going bad has me quite confused and angry at the cost of these repairs. I wrote vw about this problem and was told that since the vehicle was no longer under warranty there was nothing they could do. That would be an acceptable answer if wheel bearing failure was to be expected as a normal wear and tear item at 60k miles. But the fact that this is quite early for them to fail, I feel that vw might have issues with the wheel bearings and that others have experienced the same thing with the Passat. I thought I would reach out in case others have reached out as well in order to get vw to address this problem. Thank you.

9 Wheel problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/26/2020

Tires: front driver-side tire blown, "donut" spare on the car currently, with a 50 mph speed limit. Front passenger-side tire has a bubble in the sidewall. There are 2 open recalls - one for the air bag, and one for the headlights, that need to be resolved. I've been trying to get the recalls addressed since November of 2019. Every time I make contact with someone at Volkswagen, I'm told I will get a call back but I never do. In November of 2019, I was told there was a backlog of recall work, and was given no time frame with regard to when I would be able to bring my car in for service. For the tires (for which I have a paid protection plan), I was told today (6/2/20) that the earliest I can come in is June 16th. I use my car regularly, and am not comfortable driving it in its current condition until then.

10 Wheel problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/25/2020

Car dealer claimed they had fixed all necessary repairs to car that I had said were needed prior to me purchasing. The indicator lights went off as soon as car got moving. Contacted auto dealer who said they would take it back in and get it taken care of. Then refused to work on car, told me to take it to mechanic near me and send them the information to have it covered. Then refused to pay for repairs to car. Due to their incorporation and refusals nearly resulted in accident when car tire blew out while driving through town. Car was going at low enough speed to stop before more damages could take place. Now dealer refusing to even talk to me.

11 Wheel problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/22/2019

No air bag detected in the car.

12 Wheel problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/07/2019

Ever since we purchased our Passat we noticed issues with alignment and uneven braking. After several attempts to address the issue with the service department of university Volkswagen in albuquerque, we learned that our vehicle would need the rotors and brake pads replaced after 40,000 miles. The rotors were warped and the front left pad was down to 1mm, while the front right still had 4mm left. We were told by the service customer representative that Volkswagen uses a softer metal on the front rotors so if they were very hot and then exposed to cold water (like going through a carwash) then the rotors could get warped. We believe our vehicle issue involved caliper bracket bolt tightness and it should have been included in recall #46h6.

13 Wheel problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/05/2019

Key injection cylinder not allowing me to start my car. I parked my car in my driveway and removed the key. Later in the day I went to start my car and my key would not fit in the key cylinder. I like iokked inside the key area and there was a white plastic pin blocking the key. My steering wheel and front wheels were also locked. I had to have it towed to the dealership where it was diagnosed with two parts to be changed at a cost of $840. The car doesn't even have 60,000 miles. Is there a recall for this?.

14 Wheel problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/05/2019

My car was parked in my parking spot when I tried to insert my key in the ignition cylinder. There was a white plastic piece inside the ignition that would not allow my key in to start the engine. It caused my steering wheel and front wheels to lock. I had to call a tow truck company to have it towed to the dealership.

15 Wheel problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/19/2018

Hello NHTSA I have a 2008 Volkswagen Passat that was recalled about an airbag this to me was unsafe I tried to get it fixed a soon as possible, getting to the Volkswagen dealership I leave my Passat to them to fix it like the letter I received in the mail said I would pay anything out of pocket, I get my car in less than an our supposedly fixed my air bag but bit only did they change my air bag but they tampered with a few other things one of them being the fuel pump control moduel because according to them the cars parts where all recalled, now I'm getting to my complain I took my car in in good condition now my car turns off at random time being in the street or in the freeway driving when I fill it up with gas I have to strip on my engine for it to turn on or it won't start, also the car keeps marking tire pressure every day I used this car before I took it into Volkswagen , my car was not like this I gave them a call to make an appointment but I don't really trust the people who I believe messed up my vehicle it is in the bakc now sitting u can contact me at (xxxx) my name is (xxxx) thansk you for your time parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. 16 Wheel problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

The issue with my vehicle has been an ongoing thing since I purchased it it is now paid for even under warranty it was misdiagnosed the braking system pulsates and I was told that was normal because they had just change the brakes and then now the dashboard lights up like a christmas tree it tells me that the there's a few the steering wheel lights up the airbag lights up the road condition lights up and then I would turn the car off a pulsates when I'm breaking at 60 miles an hour or 70 miles an hour. I've taken the vehicle back to the dealership and as was there any recalls and the only recall was something I had to do nothing with the the vehicle issues they do not seem Volkswagen does not seem to find these issues that I'm reading in previous messages an issue but it's our safety so I'm very concerned about even purchasing another Volkswagen.

18 Wheel problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/21/2017

I've had my 2013 Volkswagen Passat 3. 6 sel premium since 6/2017, and I have bought 2 sets of vw wheel center caps, because they keep failing off. It's quite obvious this is a manufacturer's defect with Volkswagen. This is an expensive vehicle, and Volkswagen should do a better job at engineering parts that don't fall off of the car. These wheel caps are roughly $26 at Volkswagen before tax.

19 Wheel problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/08/2017

I bought the car new Jan 10 2017. I have put 1500 miles on it as of 5/8/17. Today at a stop light while waiting for the light or change, the tire exploded I felt th car move or wiggle, low tire pressure warning lights came on. I went to inspect to see what had happened. I don't know how to explain this looks like a volcano sprouted out of the tire. Its not the sidewall there is no damage going into the tire. . The rubber has spilt outward. . . The metal wiring in the tire is bent outward. Not inward. I have never seen anything like this before.

20 Wheel problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/05/2016

I was slowing down and pulling into a parking spot in front of a restaurant for lunch. My 2016 vw passt v6 suddenly swirled to the left, jumped over curbs, and busted all four tires because of the impact. Towed to the dealer and was told that I could stepped on gas instead of break ot it could be the parking assistance took over the control of the car. When they replaced my tires,, they found an open record/campaign as described "96d6 2016-05-04 w-update - park assist and blind spot detection (nvlw). " I am not sure what this record means. Is it related to my incident? I wonder if anyone could help me understand this?.

21 Wheel problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/18/2016

Continental tires model procontact TX , 235/45 r18 tires peeling on the side walls and crack developing on sidewalls at 10,000 miles. All 4 tires under normal driving conditions.

22 Wheel problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/08/2015

Roughly 2 weeks ago, our Passat starting having increased noise at higher speeds, typically highway speeds. I took the car into the dealership to have it looked at and they determined that the wheel bearing was bad. It seems very unusual to have a bad wheel bearing, particularly with a sedan, go bad at such low mileage.

24 Wheel problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

I was traveling on I-70 east 25 miles east of denver at mile marker 133, with three of my granddaughters in the car with me. I heard a noise and immediately started to pull to the right shoulder and brake when the car went out of control, spinning me out to the left across both traffic lanes, took me in a 360 degree circle and then into the ditch on the right side of the road. It was only an instant from first noise to being spun out of control - no warning. Because I was spun out to the left, I was not hit by the semi directly behind me. The right rear tire ran ahead of my car from the point where I first attempted to stop. There was an incident report: colorado state patrol #[xxx]. Officer on scene examined tire and said it was an "instantaneous separation" of tread from sidewall and possibly faulty tire manufacture. He also said we should have rolled but my car's low center of gravity saved us. We were unhurt but traumatized. The tire was purchased 1-30-14, 3-1/2 months prior to incident and was in like-new condition. Purchased from discount tires on lake mead in las vegas, manufactured by gt radial, giti tire (USA) ltd. , 10404 sixth street, rancho cucamonga, CA 91730-5831, phone (909) 980-0968. Car had been completely gone over two days before when I departed on trip, tire pressure was checked the day before, and a visual check was done before I got on the road that day. There was no indication that the tire was damaged or underinflated in any way. I believe utterly that the tire was defective and am considering a lawsuit despite fact that we were uninjured. This was a terrifying event and one which could have taken the lives of my granddaughters through no fault of my own. This is happening more and more and mfgrs are using old "dry" rubber and/or ineffective adhesive. I trust you will pursue this very serious issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

25 Wheel problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/28/2014

I bought a 2014 Passat tdi and since the day I bought I had misalignment problem. I tried everything and jack daniels vw dealer was not able to repair it. I have been taking vw to claim the lemon law in this vehicle. I tried to repair many times with no success. Finally I met a mechanic that maybe found the problem. He tried to balance all 4 tires, once he balanced the tire he removed the tire from the balance machine and again put the same set wheel and tire again to see what the problem was. The same exactly tire he just balanced turned unbalanced, and that applied to every wheel and tire. His conclusion was that every wheel had a manufacturers defect and not the alignment. But needs to investigate further. The wheels and tires were rotated and balanced several times, but once is shows that is balanced and you run again the sane tire, it gives an error that the tire is unbalanced.

26 Wheel problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/10/2014

On Friday, January 10, 2014 I was on my way home on braddock road. It was a rainy dark night and so the traffic was moving at less than the speed limit. As I came round the bend just past t. J. High school, I went over a deep pothole that caused damage to my car. My steering wheel began to rattle and shake and I knew my car was damaged. I managed to get home and my husband decided we needed to have the car checked. The mechanic at volks werks discovered that the left front rim was damaged and the wheel alignment was off. After all the works was done to get my car in working condition it cost us $997. The pothole was recently filled because it was a road hazard. I would like to know how va dot can help us with this large bill. I am willing to provide you with the necessary documentation or additional information if requested. Thank you.

27 Wheel problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

This car has an issue with stability above 65 mph. (yes they are inflated to proper pressure) I took a 550 mile trip right after I bought it and the car was extremely unstable at 65mph+ on all surfaces including: smooth concrete, grooved concrete, old pavement, brand new pavement, pavement with no tire wear or trie grooves, in wind or no wind. The problem is when you try to keep the car in a straight line. It will not track straight. It will go left or right, but not straight. Had alignment checked and it was correct. The car also tends to drift to the right a little no matter if your on the down or upslope of the crest on the road. It is borderline dangerous because in traffic I found the car wanting to dart towards the left and right lane. If you don't constantly fight the steering every second, you will hit a car next to you. I highly suspect it is the 17" hankook tires that come on the car as many have reported the same problems with these tires and have had issues from being dangerous in snow and water to the wandering left and right when trying to drive straight. Some have even reported the sidewalls rupturing. This is an issue that puts me in fear for the safety of my family and I will be replacing the tires as soon as I can afford it. Hopefully more people will complain here instead of just on forums. I urge you to research these tires and the vw Passat forums and you will find tons of complaints about these tires. Another note: I have driven trucks, family sedans, sports cars, SUV's, audis, vw, mercedes, BMW, Ford, chevy, Dodge, and I have never felt the steering refusing to stay on the center line until this car.

28 Wheel problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/25/2013

Noticed excessive wear on all four tires. Went to dealership to resolve the issue. They said the excessive cupping and feathering was not a Volkswagen problem. I just needed to replace the all four tires at my own expense. I went to my own mechanic and the excessive cupping and feathering was not an alignment problem or problem inherent in the tire. The weight in the rear was too light. Probably when the manufacturer used a light weight small spare, the weight of the vehicle changed and caused the excessive cupping and feathering. I added a 40lb bag of play sand in the trunk over the small spare tire and have not had any excessive cupping and feathering issues since.

29 Wheel problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

My first week with this car and the brakes start to make the nastiest sound. It was as if it had no brake pads. I immediately called the dealership and asked them what was wrong with the car I suspected the brakes from the start. I had to take it in and they checked their site and it reported that on this model and year the cars came with a defect in the brakes. They had to replace them with new ones. 2 months later it starts up again. The bad thing is that vw never admits to their faulty cars. They set me up with high payments and wont help me with any of my concerns. The car is nice no doubt about it but why would I want to stay with a faulty car and high payments? makes no sense!.

30 Wheel problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Our new 2013 tdi Passat, from day one has had the issue of intermittently dragging, pulling crunching noise coasting through a corner in the front left wheel. It varies from a soft tug and crunch noise, to so hard it pulls you into oncoming traffic! it seems to be while maintaining speed or coasting, never while braking. After about 3-4th time into the service department and everything checking out fine, we finally got them to come up and ride with me on our road. (we do live on a mountain road that is a posted 55mph with some 40mph curves) the car did it and the service manager said, "hmmm. " he said its their top of the line car and thinks its the stability control system. I asked if it was only in the front left wheel? he said "no. " I asked how come it drags and pulls the front left no matter if it's a left or right turn, and is it supposed to do it so hard some times that it pulls you into oncoming traffic? he said "no. "he said it sounds like a systems issue because we have known other people that have taken their tdi's in for this exact same issue so it's not just a sensor in this particular car. We called 3 days later to see if they had a resolve and they said the car is "fine and functioning normal, that I took the corner 8 mph too fast and the car did it's job"!! I am concerned for my family's safety as we have stated numerous times and given them every opportunity to address this and yet to no avail. This car does this everyday. It's not normal to say to your spouse that if I'm involved in an accident on our road, especially a head-on, it was the front left wheel that did it. These cars have a safety defect in this system and I want everyone to know. I don't know where to go from here.

31 Wheel problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/21/2012

The vehicle experiences excessive "wheel hop" upon starting from a stopped position, especially on a wet roadway and a hill. The tires just cannot get traction and spin. As well once the wheels start to spin the ecs (stability control system) cuts power and applies braking which has lead to dangerous situations especially when pulling into traffic. There is no ecs disable switch as with previous models, so I cannot temporarily disable the system for troubleshooting of the issue. Losing power while pulling out into the flow of traffic and experiencing a power loss is a safety hazard. The car came with hankook optima h426 tires and I switched to yokohoma avid envigor (v rated) tires believing the issue was the tires. I am an experienced driver with 33 years of driving and have tried everything from light acceleration, feathering the accelerator, using the s mode of the tiptonic transmission and using the tiptronic control in d mode to hold the transmission in the lower gear and trying to start in a higher gear to reduce the torque to the wheels, but the tiptronic will not allow upshifting when stopped. I raised this concern with the dealership since the wheel hop causing banging of the suspension system against the travel stops. This thumping and extreme movement of the suspension cannot be good for the longevity of the equipment. The dealership states "it is performing to specs as designed. " well then I think there is a design flaw.

32 Wheel problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/21/2011

I took my volkswagon Passat in for an oil change and check up and was informed that I have a bad front left wheel bearing, which is a safety issue. I was advised not to drive the vehicle on the highway due to risk of the bearing locking up the wheel. The wheel bearing is currently on a nationwide back order due to excessive demand. The wheel bearing replacement part was recently modified due to a known problem. I was informed that it is unknown when the part will be available for replacement. My volkswagon Passat is a 2007 and only has 29,000 miles. It is unheard of for a wheel bearning to fail with milage that low, since wheel bearings only wear out due to wear and tear (ie 80,000 miles or more) or flood. My vehicle was not involved in a flood and I find it hard to believe that all the cars needing replacement wheel bearings around the country have been involved in a flood. The wheel bearings are wearing out prematurely and the fact that they cannot be replaced in a timely manner is a safety issue.

33 Wheel problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/10/2010

I bought a used 2001 vw Passat for my daughter in August of 2009. It kept having problems with loosing tire pressure and I found cracks on the back side of all four rims where the bead of the tire seals. I then replaced all four wheels with the same oem vw wheel, part # 69745, about a year ago with reconditioned rims off ebay; the supplier told me they cannot recondition wheels with cracks. Last week I checked a low tire on the car and again found a crack on the new rim at the same location. As far as my daughter knows, she has not impacted anything against the wheel . I have to believe there is a dangerous defect in the design and or manufacturing of this rim and vw should be held responsible for my purchase and for the replacement of these rims.

34 Wheel problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Passat
