2 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

My car begin making a low whistle noise a week ago whenever I accelerated from stand still and a week later it begin skipping gears and then the car became inoperable.

3 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 10/14/2010

Loss of power when downshifting. This has happened more than a few times. Fortunately, it has never happened in a situation where a crash could have occurred. Nothing has been done. My vw service adviser told me a recall for the dsg transmission is imminent. That was in August. So far, I've heard nothing.

4 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 09/17/2010

When my vw 2008 R32 is in 2nd gear in the parking lot it is not smooth. It jerks and lurches like I'm pumping the gas. Also during varying times, my car does not accelerate smoothy. It lags and feels like its slipping.

5 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 08/08/2010

2008 Volkswagen r 32 is having issues with dsg transmission operation vehicle is extremely rough shifting into first from neutral and engaging into reverse from a stop. Vehicle also shift extremely rough in sport mode. The car jerks into and out of each gear at any speed.

6 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 06/21/2010

My 2008 vw R32 is starting to have dsg transmission problems at 22,000 miles. It clunks when going in and out of reverse and drive; it feels as though it will not disengage the forward gear when coming to a stop, then suddenly disengages, jolting the whole car. This happens all the time when driving. The dealer acknowledged the problem and said they will get a part to try to solve it, but not until September (and it is June now). They said to keep driving it this way.

7 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

After the car gets to it's warm temps (roughly 30 mins of driving), it starts to jerk through low gears, harsh downshifting when slowing down to stop. Taking my foot off the brake from a stop the car will lurch/sputter forward rather than slowly roll forward, at times (very inconsistent, roughly 2-3 in an hours drive) the car will surge then slam into gear before I'm able to press on the gas to drive, it feels almost as though it's about to stall.

8 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 11/08/2009

Dsg transmission drops into then out of then back into 1st gear. Also engine revs and the car jerks in reverse.

9 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 10/30/2009

While driving up a steep hill (about 30mph) and approaching an intersection, the vehicle in front of me made a last minute decision to brake hard and make a right hand turn without signaling. I slowed to a stop behind the vehicle while they turned. Once the vehicle completed it's turn, I proceeded to pass through the intersection. I mashed the throttle (the light had just turned yellow) to clear the intersection, but the engine did not respond. Finally, after about 2 seconds, the dsg went into gear and I was able to proceed. However, my vehicle remained in the middle of the intersection for about a second before the dsg began to work. Additionally, the dsg in the vehicle routinely takes a moment to engage. The above incident was the first time the dsg's failure to work left me vulnerable.

10 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 09/15/2009

My 2008 golf R32 equipped with a dsg transmission is having rough shifting, rough clutch engagement, choppy reverse and power loss at highway speeds under hard acceleration. Please push vw of America to have a recall campaign done. How long do owners have to wait for this? I guess vw and NHTSA want someone to die before any action is taken. Thank you.

11 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 09/01/2009

After coming to a complete stop and letting off the brake pedal, while the car is still in drive, it will lurch or jump forward - almost as though I've pressed the accelerator pedal. This seems to get worse as the outside ambient temps increase. In stop and go traffic the car is a nightmare to drive, as it will lurch and jerk heavily. I've actually had my starbucks coffee shoot out of the cup and spill on me because of this - yes, it lurches that much. I've almost rear-ended a few cars and hit my garage wall. All of this is actually our second go around as we've had the mechatronics unit replaced by vw with 17646 miles on the car. The car now has 21500 miles on it and the symptoms are back again. I'm not sure what to do? the first time our vw dealer had the car for about a month to get it fixed but their fix only seemed to work for a short time as we're starting to have the same problems again. The car is jerky and clunky when shifting at low speed driving. I've had the dealer tell me this is normal dsg behavior but we own (2) 2008 vw R32 - my wife and I each have our own. The other car drives much smoother and does not exhibit the behavior that these car does; however, I'm nervous that our other too will soon start having problems. I'm holding off bringing the car back to the dealer until they come up with a proper fix. Vw please remedy this problem. Our family has been a loyal vw/Audi customer our entire lives.

12 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 08/24/2009

I have had several issues with some corrected but the hesitation of power and shifting issues with dsg continue to persist. Several times I have tried to accelerate and the car does not respond immediately, this has happened on the expressway several times. There is also some jerking in the car as it tries to go through gears. It also feels like it is going to stall before it actually gets going. Finally, the car has rumble feel through the pedal and feels like it is fighting itself and when you turn the wheel to the left it starts an on and off rumble. Other problems that have occurred were a loud knocking which was eventually fixed by replacing the entire engine. They first replaced the flywheel thinking that was the issue.

13 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 08/24/2009

Have a 2008 vw golf R32 dsg. Shifting is extremely rough and appears to have a mind of its own. In fact sometimes it does not respond to my shifts and all and "coasts" until engaging. I have been told this problem can be fixed by replacing the mechatronic unit, but vw denies the issue. This is ridiculous. I have searched issues with it on the internet forums and I am for sure not alone. I think this issue should be a recall for both safety and reliability reasons.

14 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 08/24/2009

My 2008 Volkswagen golf R32 has dsg issues. The transmission is not smooth when going from a stop (brake applied) to go (gas pedal). Sometimes the dsg gearbox goes into neutral as well while having the gas pedal pressed and in motion. I know there is a current voluntary recall for some mkv vw vehicles, but R32 golf's should be looked at as well. Please help!.

15 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 08/11/2009

2008 R32 on occasion does not shift smoothly when in d mode. In addition, when starting from a standstill it is not uncommon for the car to jerk when the accelerator is applied.

16 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 08/10/2009

Intermittent problems with a vw R32 dsg transmission. Most significant was a case where I was attempting to accelerate from a stop. The engine revved, but the car did not move forward. All of a sudden, the car lurched forward very hard as the transmission engaged at ~3000 rpm. I had to immediately hit the brakes to avoid colliding with the slower-moving traffic in front of me. My initial reaction was that I had been involved in a rear-end collision due to the magnitude of the impact. However, it was just the transmission engaging spontaneously.

17 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 08/09/2009

My vehicle is a 2008 Volkswagen model R32. All of the following issues happens when the transmission is in "d" (drive) position. At low speeds (below 40 mph) the transmission appears to go in and out and up and down the gears resulting in a "clunky" and un-smooth movement of the vehicle. Also this is often evident during slow gentle acceleration and slowing down from low speed (approx 40 mph or less). About 75% of the time the car does not respond to a gentle acceleration, there is a very noticeable delay until the transmission shifts itself. Similar for slowing down, the engine remains at high rpm and suddenly slows, but not consistently I did notice that all of this happens more when the car is warmed up, rarely while the engine is cold. . At high speed the car acts normally including during quick acceleration. Something is definitely not right, the car should not be doing this in my opinion. Car dealer says only that all the dsg-transmission equipped cars do this and I should get used to it. Evidently there is no official fix;.

18 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

Dsg transmission slams when placed into "d" or "s" mode even thought brake is pushed.

19 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 07/30/2009

Several symptoms related to dsg transmission switching gears: from a stop, car lunges and jerks into first gear. Rpm's sometimes dip and surge, and car sometimes feels like it is going to stall. When upshifting from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd, gear sometimes engages with a thunk. When downshifting 3 to 2 or 2 to 1, car often surges and jerks. In reverse, car sometimes loses power for a second or two.

20 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 07/25/2009

2 issues with my dsg transmission first; when slowing down from speed the transmission jerks and shifts very rough from second gear to first especially. It is very strange feeling and sometimes dangerous due to abrupt speed changes. Second the transmission does not shift up after accelerating: when you accelerate to speed and let off the gas to maintain the target speed; the transmission continues to rev higher for 2-3 seconds before shifting to the proper gear. Both of these issues have occurred multiple times already after only 4 days of ownership of this car: 2008 Volkswagen R32.

21 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 07/24/2009

During near full throttle acceleration, car experiences no increased speed. Car will increase rpms, but seems like it is searching for a gear. It is most scary if you need to accelerate in accident avoidance, and the car doesn't go. Very choppy starts from first to second gear, feel like someone doesn't know how to shift a manual gearbox, yet this is a dsg gearbox.

22 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 07/22/2009

2008 R32 mechatronic dsg problems. . Been to dealer and confirmed problem. . . Dealer said it is back ordered in germany and it is ok to keep driving it becomes undrivable let them know "what ever that mean".

23 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 07/22/2009

Jerking and loss of power when accelerating from a stop. Seems random, but not easily repeatable.

24 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 07/21/2009

Rpm pulses or surges at low rpm, when creeping along in d as in a parking lot or in traffic. Just when you think you are operating safely at near stop, the car surges ahead pulsing the rpm by about 100 rpm. The symptom has been very repeatable through out the 21k+ miles I have on the car. The dealer has looked at it twice and says this is normal dsg transmission behavior. If I put the car in s mode, it will not do it. They need to reprogram the transmission software so it will not happen in d. I believe this is a safety issue that can and should be fixed by vw. I have talked with several other owners of this transmission/car and they experience the same.

25 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 07/17/2009

Recently my 2008 vw R32 equipped with the dsg transmission has been suffering a jerkiness and harshness in the transmission shifts. This is especially true while shifting from drive to reverse and vice versa. Sometimes the car takes time to react and then does it in an unprecedented and abrupt way. Also when the car comes to a complete stop, sometimes when I get on the accelerator y takes time for the car to start accelerating. Both of these scenarios happen quite often, and pose a safety concern, since it can cause me to back up into an object or even get stranded in the middle of cross-traffic.

26 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

Direct shift gearbox is very choppy. Dsg is especially choppy at low speeds and in reverse. I took the car to service department and tech said it was operating as designed, but I don't think it was designed to be so rough. No parts were replaced or ordered.

27 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

2008 Volkswagen dsg transmission issues: harsh shifting in low speed maneuvers, rough shifting sometimes, slow engagement to reverse, slow shifting when coming to a stop causing "lurching".

28 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 06/28/2009

Once the transmission is warm it will literally slam into first or reverse at low speeds. Dealer is replacing the mechatronics unit that failed in the transmission but is on a 8-10 week back order, the dealer has been great but the car is awful when starting out or backing up.

29 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 05/20/2009

Repeatedly when driving the car will hesitate to shift gears. The car refuses to downshift until the very last possible moment.

30 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 05/15/2009

When reversing it is choppy/jerky, as if I am pumping the accelerator. The same happens when in traffic at low speeds. Also sometimes the car is slow to accelerate as in the rpms's increase but the car is not going any faster. I am stationed in germany and the dealer has a dsg mechetronics unit on back order for the last 2 months. The dealer is the is the one who determined that there was a problem and informed me of the problem. The car has done this since day 1 so I assumed it was normal.

31 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 05/14/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Volkswagen R32. While driving 45 mph the contact noticed that the vehicle would no longer accelerate without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the methapromic unit was replaced inside the transmission; however, after the vehicle was repaired the failure continued to occur. There were no prior warnings. The failure mileage was 25000 and the current mileage was 35000.

32 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 05/10/2009

My 2008 vw R32 with the dsg transmission surges forward as soon as I take my foot off the brakes in traffic or stop lights. It will surge forward and then rock like someone dumped the clutch even though there is no manual clutch. The car also is very clunky in reverse, and rocks alot. These problems occur about every other day. I have brought my car to the dealership multiple times and all they do is say that they cant find anything wrong and they "reset" the dsg settings. This will fix the problem for a day before it starts again. I have told them that I think it is the mechatronics unit and they just say that they don't think it is and never really explore the problem.

33 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

There is a delay when pressing accelerator from a stop. Several time the car behind me almost hit me because of the delay.

34 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 03/05/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Volkswagen R32. The contact was driving approximately 55 mph on normal road conditions. There was pressure applied to the accelerator pedal followed by no power response. The engine began to rev excessively high. After a few seconds the transmission shifted into gear and resumed to normal operation. There were no warning lights indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. In addition, there was a hard shifting from "reverse" to "drive" and "park" to "reverse" position. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician was unable to locate the failure. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on five separate occasions for identical failures. The technician replaced the fly wheel. The failures continued and there was no resolutions. The failure mileage was 26,000 and the current mileage was 33,000. The VIN was unavailable. Bl.

35 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Volkswagen R32

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

Type vehicle: Volkswagen/r32 2008 NHTSA action number: pe09035 current mileage: 25,000. The failure: several symptoms: 1) loss of motive power: basically, at times, from a stop, the car just doesn't go. The engine revs, but the transmission doesn't engage. After a few seconds normal function returns. 2) extremely harsh shifting while maneuvering at low speeds, usually when accelerating from first to second gear. 3) at times, at low speeds, noticeably when approaching a stop, the transmission will not downshift when I try to shift manually, using the controls. 4) when backing especially, but also when moving very slowly as when parking, the car has begun to move in a very jerky manner. This is very dangerous in a busy grocery store parking lot. The symptoms began at about 17 or 18000 miles and are gradually getting worse.
