2 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 12/30/2021

Car is stalling out while driving with no warning. Doesn't matter the rate of speed I'm going it just cuts out. Can't turn steering wheel. No codes pop up. No mechanics can pinpoint issue. I have seen quite a few thousand people complaining of the same issue and reported it to vw as well as NHTSA and no one will do a recall. Chrysler did a recall for this same issue but not vw. This is a safety issue for not only the owner but other drivers on the road. If I get into an accident or cause one I will be suing NHTSA as well as vw for no recall being done. I have printed out over 100 pages of complaints from others for evidence of complaints. I have already entered the class action lawsuit with others having the same issue. Recall the issue or face lawsuits.

3 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 07/18/2021

Hi - I have a 2010 vw Volkswagen that has an issue with headlights intermittently working, which is very hazardous and also the windshield wipers randomly turn on and the car was intermittently starting (now won’t start at all since 7/18/2021) among other things. Car appears to not be starting due to fuel relay with tipm. The intermittent headlights is very dangerous but corrects itself in a few days so mechanics haven’t been able to figure it out. This car is related to the several Chrysler models from 2010-2014 (it states Chrysler on various parts of my vw Routan) that had a recall for issues with the tipm box, which appears to be the issue with my vehicle. As far as I can tell the same recall was not issued for the Routan. Why? I’ve found many similar descriptions of Routan owners that have had the same issues I have and these go back to the tipm. Will there be a recall? there is one of many links detailing people with the same issues/concerns. . Read more...

4 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 09/20/2020

Vehicle has experienced stalling, engine shutdown, and difficulty starting multiple times. Engine has now stalled more frequently at both low speeds and while driving on highway. Each time, rpm's have gone to zero and it's completely lost power to steering. I've had try and coast/navigate safely to side of road, berm, etc. , stop, and restart the van. At times the dash lights will flash, other times there is no indication that a failure had occurred, just no power/rpms. No check engine light remains, no codes displayed, nothing. The local Volkswagen dealer will not even address the issue as they deem it a "Chrysler problem". We now take it to an independent mechanic and replaced the crankshaft & camshaft position sensors, key fobs, battery, and have done all preventative maintenance. The problem still remains. There are similar complaints (vw, Chrysler, & Dodge) for this exact engine & symptoms that may be related to the tipm, the main control module. This is a very serious safety issue as it random and causes a complete shutdown of vehicle while in motion and loss of operator control.

5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 07/29/2020

When car is running, either in park or drive, the engine cuts out. We must wait 30 sec to restart. It will then restart. This action happend both when the car is in park and drive. The action happened once in our driveway and once coming out of a carry out driveway.

6 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 11/10/2019

2011 Volkswagen Routan engine will unexpectedly shut down during normal driving conditions, resulting in no engine power, no power steering and no power brakes. This occurs at any speed and in any driving condition from stationary idling up to highway speeds. This has occurred multiple times with this vehicle.

7 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 06/12/2019

My check engine light came on so I had the code checked it indicated that O2 sensors needed replaced then the code indicated a cylinder 4 misfire? ihave replaced the ignition coil pack, checked cylinder compression, changed spark plugs and fuel injector and I still have the po304 code engine misfire cylinder #4??? I am so frustrated what else could I be missing to clear this code issue?.

8 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 11/06/2018

My 2011 vw Routan, will have a lot of trouble starting up, took it to the dealership and the tipm needs to be replace, which is a common problem for this car,.

9 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 02/15/2018

Mileage 106,000 2012 Routan but issues have been present since purchase at 96000. Vehicle stalled and lost all power approaching stop light. Vehicle has starting problems as well, will not react to start command. The aforementioned occurences are random and most likely related to tipm which is well known defect at Chrysler and actually was recalled but not by vw. In addition issues with cam/crankshaft sensor and misfire fault codes. Nhtsa has allowed volkswagon to sweep and hide the tipm issue under the rug, meanwhile Chrysler and Dodge addressed the defective part a part which is also in the Routan as well. Stalling and losing power randomly is a potential "death" event. Can't believe they haven't recalled this. Where is the regulation??.

10 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 12/01/2017

The van has a Chrysler engine and the tipem part has been recalled under the Chrysler however vw has not recalled the part this is a 1300 fix.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 11/24/2017

Tipm module. My 2011 vw Routan was built by Chrysler with the same parts as any other Chrysler car at that time. Chrysler issued a recall for all vehicles made with this particular part as it is a life threatening issue. Most importantly the car will stop in the middle of driving! imagine going down the freeway doing 70mph with your kids in the car and the car shuts off. Fortunately we were only driving in a parking lot. Because the car is branded as a vw, chrysyler refuses to replace the recalled part which I was quoted at $1300 from the dealership and vw says it is a Chrysler part and issue. This thin gray line is costing people thousands of dollars and possibly even lives.

12 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 11/13/2017

Have had the coils replaced and the spark plugs and other work done and the car still shakes on idling. Very frustrating and this is causing the check engine light to stay on? when is the recall happening, there are tons of issues to other Routans!.

13 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 10/02/2017

It is very hard to start the Routan, and it has stalled while driving for no reason driving on a highway. Chrysler (who made the Routan for vw) has recalled the tipm on all of their town and countries, as well as the Dodge caravans for this same reason. I have a family of 7 that uses this vehicle for out primary mode of transportation.

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 09/14/2017

Takata recall. Having problems starting van on first try. Van will stall a few times before starting. Sometimes the battery is drain. Battery has been tested=good! this has been happening for 3 months. I after reading and researching I come to a conclusion that it is the tipm fuel relay!.

15 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 06/23/2017

Engine will not start. Happens on occasion but happened enough that I had two starters installed as well as a battery. What else could it be? can turn the key and nothing happens. I can possibly sit there and turn the ignition 10+ times and still nothing. Thought it could be a bad spot in the new starter?? cleaned battery posts often and now have treated the connections. Would like not to receive another call from lovely wife that the van would not start. Has to be something with a circuit staying open or something. Safety issue due to not knowing if your car is going to start when you arrive to a destination. Issue has been going on for 2+ years and van has 100k miles last instance of issue: 23 June 2017.

16 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

The van was my mothers which she passed away about year ago. I inherited the van I drive it for couple months when I noticed that sometimes when I would try to start it that it wouldn't start. It would only make a clicking noise. I would turn key off & try it again it would start. Then in month or so I noticed that when I would be driving 55-70 mph that it would like stall. It wouldn't shift down or accelerate. I would have to pull over & restart it. It began doing that quite often until one night I was driving down the road & went to turn in somewhere when it died & wouldn't start back. My husband had to come pull me home. We have researched what it was doing & a lot of people has had this happen to them. They claim it's a $1200 tpim board. The vw Routan is Chrysler made under the hood. Chrysler is aware of this dangerous problem & has already issued a recall but vw said they wasn't going to recall it. They are aware of it too. I feel as if someone is going to get hurt if this isn't addressed because a lot of people have said that they would be driving down road at 70mph & it just dies which mean that they don't have any power steering. Please do something before someone gets hurt. I have kids & I would've hated for us to be on the interstate when that happened. Luckily I was in town & no kids was with me. Thank you!!.

17 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 04/26/2017

While operating the vehicle the car stalled an simply stopped in the middle of driving. Completely ridiculous, very dangerous! your website states that vehicles same year, make and model and manfu date thevsame have recalls for exact same issue. This is urgent. This could cause the death of me or my family. It must be fixed by vw, especially when recalls are there for some.

18 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 04/02/2017

Check tire light on dash came on and off- had it checked out- nothing came up. Then we started having issues with the vehical starting- long starts and not starting on the first, second, sometimes third try. Next, the engine would intermittently turn off when shifted into reverse. Lastly, it started shutting off while driving!!! all of these things occurred within 1. 5 months and in order. Brought it in to vw dealer- requires new tipm module at 1000. 00 dollars. Totally unsafe and should have been included in the recall along with the Chrysler and Dodge models when they recalled the tipm modules. This car was made by Chrysler- so I've discovered. It is essentially a Chrysler with a vw badge on it- that's what the mechanics I've spoken with call it. They also call it a frankenstein van! vw and Chrysler should stand by their product- add it to the recall before for someone gets killed in this thing!!!.

19 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 03/20/2017

Vehicle tipm is faulty, makes the car hard to turn on and in other cases stall when stopped at lights or stop signs.

20 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 03/13/2017

I have a Volkswagen Routan 2011 built by Chrysler in a canada factory. This vehicle is shutting off when drive on the freeway. The gears and sreering locks up while driving. The vehicle also has electrical issues the lights turn on and off even when the car is off. After purchasing a new battery and alternator the car in the morning will not start. The battery is dead and drained. With nothing on it intermittently has a dead battery and shuts of after starting the car. When I call the Volkswagen dealer in stockton CA to explain the service guy hung up on my husband and I and stated it's not a recall. We explain that thousands are having the same issue and it's recorded and all over you tube. We are having the same ignition switch issues or possible tipm issues.

21 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 01/03/2017

Tipm was recalled for Chrysler/Dodge and should be for vw Routan. From what I've read the car can stall if this part is bad.

22 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 10/31/2016

Tipm issue that causes the car to stall while driving, or the car starts then dies. Chryslers vans have had this issue and have been recalled, this vehicle is built by Chrysler but since it is marketed as vw it hasn't been recalled. It will take somebody to die in a car accident caused by this issue before you guys do something about this. This is really dangerous because it could potentially cause an accident. There are many other people with the same issue that haven't taken the time to fill this report.

23 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 09/13/2016

My car just shuts off while I'm driving or won't star at all. Then when I turn it off, something continues to run, completely draining the battery. I have to disconnect my battery everytime I park the vehicle. It's completely unsafe to drive and I've dumped over $4200 on this van and I've owned it 14 mos. Worst purchase I've ever made.

24 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 04/15/2016

Our transmission issue started as we're going down I-75 at about 65-70. What sounded like something falling from under the hood and making a klanking sound at if it was falling from the engine. After a few months the transmission started making a high pitched noise. Our local auto repair store wouldn't touch it so we had to take it to the vw dealer. Turns out not only did we need a new transmission but we also needed a new tipm. Total cost including labor was over $7000. 00. We had roughly 85,000 miles on it so it was no longer covered under warranty.

25 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Our van has had on and off weird electrical things happening for a few months - wipers come on by themselves, air turns off by itself, lights, etc. Then the van started not always starting. Sometimes it would start, then shut off by itself shortly after starting. It got to the point where it was not easily starting 2-3 times a day. The weird electrical stuff would happen when stationary or in motion. The starting problem was while stationary. Sometimes it died when I put it in gear to move. Sometimes when driving, I felt like the car was giving itself more gas even though my foot had been taken off of the pedal. Took it to vw when it simply would not easily or reliably start anymore. They said the tipm module needed to be replaced. We just got it replaced. Cost us $924. 77!.

26 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 09/13/2015

On September 15th 2015, I brought my 2011 volkswagon Routan to pioneer automotive services in oak harbor washington because the vehicle failed to start after several instances. After many hours of trouble shooting, I received word that it was the total integrated power module (tipm). They could order one and install it, but would have to be towed to burlington washington to the closest volkswagon dealership to be programmed. This part will cost me $822 with additional costs for installation and programming. After much research, I found there to be recalls for this part in Chrysler vehicles ranging in my year. I own a volkswagon, but it has a Chrysler motor in it. This indicates that my vehicle should have been recalled for this potentially life threatening defect, but because its a volkswagon with a Chrysler motor, this was their way to avoid an even larger number of recalled vehicles. The cost is disturbing, but the thought of what fatal end to this could bring has no price. All I seek is for Chrysler to own up to the flaw and replace this defect and to expand its possible recall numbers to make sure all vehicles that they placed their product in are evaluated. A timely response is very much appreciated. Thank you.

27 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 07/25/2015

The engine will crank but will not start on most occasions. When the engine does start it will shut off after several seconds. To get the engine to start at all the ignition has to be turn to the on position for two to three seconds and then turned to the start position. When the engine does remain on, it has shut off in traffic on two separate occasions. I know that this is a Chrysler manufactured/Volkswagen marketed vehicle. I have read that Chrysler has recalled several of its minivans due to the same problems and that the issue is with the tipm part. Does this recall extend to Volkswagen as well?.

28 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 07/13/2015

Vehicle engine would do the extended crank, and not turn over, or would turn over and die instantly, check engine light would flash 10 times. Took vehicle to the dealer to find out that the tipm module had failed, the repair was $1200, and took a week. Chrysler had built the vehicle for Volkswagen from their town and country line, however unlike Chrysler, Volkswagen doesn't honor the recall although the part is physically the same mopar part across the board. Volkswagen also stated they offer no assistance after the base warranty is gone as well. Isn't there some federal mandate that requires these devices to be warranted further than the normal 36,000 miles? I guess it will take someone getting severely injured or killed in one of these vans for Volkswagen to open there eyes. . .

29 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 05/13/2015

I driving last month 47 mph and my driving sliding door open and my 8 years girls was dear and she scare when the door open when I driving ,, and when I stop the door not want to close automatic. . That scare me and my wife. . . The other concern is my transmision hard shiffting ,hard shiffting , I ready take like 5,6 time my van to check my transmission and my sliding door and the say is normal , and my sliding door not found anytime , they say the sliding door recall was done ready,, the other big concern is the gas mileage, only 11 or 12 gallon for miles they did a lot test and not found nothing ,,is poss to 16 mph for gallon and never have that,,. . . . Thanks.

30 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 05/04/2015

In April 2015 the check engine light came on in my 2010 vw Routan, maybe a week or so later it started to stall while I was driving it. I took it to an import dealer locally to have it looked at and was told that the egr valve was bad. They replaced it, which cost me $400, and put a new gas cap on it. In July the engine light came on again, had the codes run at a parts store and it was the egr valve again. Took it back to the shop that did the first repair because it still had a parts and labor warrantee with them. They replaced it again. Now, in September, my engine light is on again and again it says it's the egr valve. I have called the shop to get it in to be repaired again, waiting on a call back. This issue is quite scary because it has and probably will again stall out on the highway causing me to have to try to pull over and put it in neutral to restart it. I called vw customer care and was told that I would need to take it to a vw dealership at my own cost to have it diagnosed, and basically tell me what I already know, I am not spending another $400 to replace this valve when I have already done that once this year. Because I refuse to pay for repairs that are covered under the original shop warrantee vw refuses to do anything or even acknowledge that this is an issue.

31 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 02/15/2015

Tipm module, same as chryslers. Car stopped while driving and has an intermitent starting problem.

32 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 07/04/2014

I have been experiencing the engine dying suddenly while I am driving. There is no warning or engine lights. Everything turns off including the power steering. This is terrifying. I took my vehicle to the dealer, I have an extended warranty. After keeping it two days, they claim that nothing is wrong with the car. I tried to explain the danger involved in my car suddenly losing power but the dealer states there is nothing they can do about it.

33 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 02/05/2013

While driving at various speed the car suddenly shuts off and loses power steering. This has occurred 4 times now and is extremely dangerous. Car can only be restarted when at a complete stop and placed back in park.

34 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 10/07/2012

10/7/entering onto road, began acceleration up to 20/25 mph -then all power, controls dead. Lost power steering and coasted into parking lot. Shut car down, flooded/pumped accelerator pedal. Difficulty starting but worked, drove like normal, again. 10/14/turning from sidestreet, on to main street -going 20 mph. Lost all power again-manually turned coasted car into left middle turning lane. Re-started, operated normal.

35 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 09/02/2010

I purchased a 2010 vw Routan in may 2010. I have had multiple issues with the vehicle since that time - electrical issues with the sliding doors, transmission not shifting correctly, the vehicle's strained ability to back up when stopped/parked on a decline. The only issue which has been satisfactorily addressed to date is the sliding door electrical issue. My most pressing concern, however, involves a stalling issue which occurs without warning and without any particular pattern. On September 2, 2010, while traveling on the interstate at appx 60 mph the vehicle stalled out. Fortunately, my husband was driving and was able to pull the vehicle to the side of the road. Once stopped, the vehicle restarted without trouble and we were able to reach a safe location to call the dealership. The dealership has been unable to identify any problems with the vehicle as they say the "diagnostic tests" show nothing is wrong and that it is operating according to the manufacturer design. I purchased this vehicle in large part to the vw high safety rating, yet, I am not convinced this vehicle lives up to that standard. I previously owned a vw passat prior to the purchase of the Routan and was very pleased. However, I cannot say the same about my experience with the Routan. A vehicle that stalls without explanation is a safety concern which I would hope would be investigated and addressed immediately.
