The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan. While the contact was driving approximately 55 mph, the accelerator pedal stuck to the floor and would not release. The engine rpms increased to 7,000 with an unintended increase of acceleration . When the brake pedal was engaged the vehicle slowed down and the rpms remained at 7,000. The gear was shifted from drive to neutral and the vehicle continued with the accelerator pedal remaining in the stuck position. The brakes were applied and the vehicle was pulled over and the engine turned off. The accelerator pedal would not release manually after numerous attempts, then suddenly the pedal released without assistance. The vehicle restarted with the rpms at 7,000. The contact resumed with caution. The vehicle was in the process of being towed to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact expressed significant concern of the life threatening failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,490.
