The contact owned a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact pulled over and added oil to the engine. The failure occurred on several occasions, and the contact stated he consistently added oil for the vehicle to return to normal operation. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the dealer stated that it was normal to consistently check and add oil to the engine and stated that the issue was not a failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.
I am experiencing excessive oil consumption in my Volkswagen Tiguan. I took my vehicle to one authorized dealership which diagnosed the issue as "pushed up" valve seals and recommended replacement. Seeking a second opinion at another authorized dealership, they diagnosed the problem as requiring a full cylinder head replacement. This significant discrepancy in diagnosis is concerning. I also experienced a significant delay in receiving critical service invoices (dated March 28th and April 14th, received on April 28th), raising concerns about timely notification of potential safety issues. Furthermore, I am aware of a publicly known class action lawsuit regarding excessive oil consumption in the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan, suggesting this may be a broader issue. My attempts to resolve this with Volkswagen of America have been unsuccessful, with representatives refusing to escalate my concerns and hanging up on me. The potential for misdiagnosis and inadequate repair of the excessive oil consumption issue could lead to severe engine damage, including stalling or seizure while driving, thus increasing the risk of an accident and jeopardizing the safety of myself and others. Furthermore, the significant delay in receiving important service invoices raises concerns that I may not be promptly informed of critical safety recalls or maintenance needs, further increasing the risk of operating an unsafe vehicle.
Ever since purchasing the car in 2021 I noticed it burns oil very quickly. Every time I would bring my car to my local body show before an oil change was do there was always no oil left. I finally brought the car back to vw and they told me it could be the shop was not using the right stuff which I knew was not true and they charged me for oil change and told me to come back if the problem continued. Sure enough 6 weeks later the oil light came on. I brought it back to vw and they told me the car has an engine oil consumption issue and they could keep the car from a week to 6 months.
I purchased this vehicle [xxx] and mileage was 78,921 at hoover Volkswagen in georgia. The carfax showed it had an oil change since the dealer had it in inventory. I drove the carfax showed about 2000 miles to 81,000 odometer miles and heard ticking noise so I checked the oil. It was 2 quarts low, I added 2 after calling the dealer and saying it’s my responsibility to top off the oil. I checked it again at appx 83,000 again it was 2 quarts low, I checked it at 85,000, 87,000, 89,000 and 90,000 each time it was 2 quarts low. I finally took it into the hoover Volkswagen dealership at appx 90,500 miles and traded it in for the oil consumption issue and lost $7000 because of tradein value of the oil consuming vehicle. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The pvc valve failed on my two-year-old Volkswagen Tiguan at 60,000 miles. As a result, the upper timing gasket was blown, the oil pan went bad, along with several other issues relating to gaskets, seals and sensors, causing an oil leak. This problem was confirmed by my local Volkswagen dealership, and is costing me over $2,000 out-of-pocket. The check engine light was extremely inconsistent - coming on and then going off for days at a time. This is a safety concern. Unfortunately, through research, I have found that many other Tiguan owners are experiencing the same problems, but it does not seem Volkswagen is willing to issue a recall.
Over consuming oil beyond specs.
After slowing down while driving, I pushed the gas pedal to continue with normal speed. Instead of picking up speed again, the rpm dropped, the car hesitated for a few seconds and than accelerated back to normal driving condition. In the meantime traffic was approaching from behind while I couldn't regain normal speed. Felt like I was stalled in yltraffic for a few seconds. Also, often while reversing from my driveway, than hitting d to go forward, the vehicle hesitates before it will move forward. I took it to the dealer . They could not duplicate the situation.
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated the oil level reader was showing that the oil was lowering quickly, causing them to have to put oil in every 2 weeks. The check engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the deaelr who was unable to diagnose the failure. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 mph, the vehicle began emitting a blue-colored smoke from the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, who diagnosed that the cam phaser was leaking oil. The cam phaser needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
Since, I've owned it (new), there has only been 1 other time (July 13th, 2024) when I am stopped at a red light, I go to accelerate at the green light, and my car has completely turned off. Requiring me to turn on my emergency lights on, then placing my car in park, and restart the car. The second time this happened was on July 17th, 2024, which prompted me to take my car to the vw dealership in rockville, MD. The dealership was unable to find or replicate the issue so they sent me home with no plan. I have also experienced radio issues, namely that it just stops working or won't turn on at all. The screen freezes and I cannot reboot my screen.
The engine stumbles. It performs unexpectedly just when you need power, and it's not there. Feel unsafe when making left turns and the engine lurks and lurches and does not transmit power making the left turn into traffic very unsafe.
An issue occurs intermittently when accelerating from a stop/at low speeds. When pressing the gas pedal, there is approximately a 3-4 second delay before the engine kicks in. Theres is no acceleration during those 3-4 seconds and suddenly, the engine will jolt you forward. This presents a safety issue when pulling out on to a street and this vehicle will not move forward. There have been 2 instances where I have almost gotten hit/involved with road rage due to this issue.
Excessive oil consumption. Noticed oil consuming at abnormal rate about 1 1/2 years ago. Took it to dealership for diagnosis in July 2024 and was told cylinder head needed to be replaced. In the meantime, I was told to frequently check and refill oil as needed. The part was backordered until February 2025 when I went in again for replacement where the dealership completed additional diagnosis. It was decided the cylinder head did not need to be replaced and only the valve seals. These were replaced in February 2025. My oil light came back on after about 2,000 miles on April 30th, 2025. The oil was about a quart low. I topped it off. 3 weeks later the oil light came on again. I checked the oil level on may 24th and only the very tip of the dipstick had oil on it. I filled it up by 2 quarts. I contacted vw may 26th to schedule maintenance appt. On June 6th, I checked oil level again before driving to drop off my vehicle and the vehicle was a quart low.
Burning oil. Check oil level light was on and blue smoke coming from exhaust. Around 30,000. The dealer finally replaced valve stems and other extensive repair. My check engine light came on so they replaced the oil separator. Then a week later now my check engine light is back on. I’m going on the morning back to dealership tomorrow.
Crankshaft vent valve clogged and failed, causing overpressurization and oil leaks. Caused the oil pan to crack and upper timing cover to leak per the inspection at Volkswagen. I was driving, going 63mph when it said max engine speed 3000rpm and a light that said epc started flashing along with the engine light. I turned off cruise control and began to go towards the shoulder and it shuddered and a large white plumb of smoke came out of it. It wouldn't speed up at all while I was getting over. I had it towed to my home. My husband noticed oil all over the bottom and back of my car. My dipstick had no oil on it at all. We towed it Tuesday morning to Volkswagen.
My vehicle low oil light cane on and I had just had the oil changed less than 2,000 miles. Took it to local dealership, they stated 2 seals needed to be replaced, they replaced them and stated I should be good but check the oil every so often to make sure. 500 miles goes by I need at least 1 qt of oil, took it back to dealership now they say I need a whole new head and it is a common problem. They have done about 3-4 in 2024! I feel like that's a safety concern but they don't.
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while driving on multiple occasions at various speeds, he observed white smoke emanating from the rear of the vehicle. The check engine and and oil lights were illuminated. Additionally, a "add oil to the engine' message appeared. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the cylinder head needed to be replaced and oil was needed to be added to the vehicle every month as the vehicle is burning oil. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
The car has a severe hesitation when accelerating from the stop. This hesitation is dangerous in regard that when you try to accelerate from a stop sign into traffic, the car can sluggishly bog down exposing you to oncoming traffic. The issue is more severe after cold start, but can happen anytime. Has caused me to pull out in front of traffic many times only to bog down and nearly be in an accident.
This car and many others like it have excessive oil consumption, smoking. I'm told it's a cylinder head which may or may not be covered under warranty if they can ever get a replacement. There are currently 4 waiting on heads or engines at my dealer with no eta on the backordered part. In the mean time I'm stuck with a partially functional car I can't get rid of because of the problem.
Car uses lots of oil between oil changes 1 1/2 quart in between suggested change intervals.
These vehicles have a really bad throttle response when trying to accelerate from a stop making a turn into traffic. If you try to push the accelerator pedal to accelerate quickly there is a huge delay in the response which will almost cause you to get into an accident. Please investigate and have Volkswagen correct the issue. This is a common issue with 2020 and newer vw Tiguan, and taos and Volkswagen has done nothing to improve it.
The acceleration stalls and sometimes stops. Sometimes the car has to be put in park and restarted. This stalling or lack of acceleration happens at stop signs, stop lights when I am accelerating and it does not want to go. Which when turning into on coming traffic is very scary if I am not able to get up and go. I feel very unsafe operating the vehicle when this occurs. The acceleration stalling happens intermittently and not just when the car is from a cold start. The dealership said they are aware of this issue and are hoping for an update to fix the problem. Meanwhile I have to deal with the uncertainty and feeling unsafe.
I bought this brand new Tiguan in July 2022. The engine is either leaking or burning engine oil. I have the check engine oil level light on around every 2000-3000 miles. I had been to the dealer several times. They just inspect for leak and added engine oil. The problem still exist. The dealer stated that my car needs oil change every 10k miles. I am going back every 2-3 k miles for engine oil. There is something wrong with the engine. It is burning or consuming the engine oil. Another problem I have is the wheel or the brakes. When I was braking at above 60 miles per hours, there is a strong vibration on the wheel or brakes.
This is an ongoing issue that occurs every time we drive the vehicle. The vehicle’s engine control software appears to have an issue, whereby the engine severely hesitates when attempting to accelerate from a stop. It’s bad enough that we worry the engine will stall, and we will be struck by oncoming vehicles. The issue generally only occurs when the engine has not yet reached operating temperature. Our vw has been at our dealership for months now, while we wait for a resolution. In the interim, the dealer gave us a free loaner, also a Tiguan (but it’s a 2023), and the loaner has the exact same issue. When pulling out from an intersection, I fear that someday the car will hesitate so bad that it causes an accident. I can only guess that the issue is with the software and not the fuel delivery system itself.
Ongoing issues with hesitation when accelerating from a stop. The car will feel like it has no power when pushing on the accelerator it may then jerk into gear and accelerate quickly or what feels like jerking in-between gears.
I am having a delay in acceleration on this car. Car hesitates badly. Feels like it just doesn’t want to go. And I have to be very careful when pulling out into traffic. Took it to dealership and they said there is no known fix for this issue, even though others have complained about the same problem.
Severe throttle lag. Has almost caused three accidents. When pulling into traffic there is a 1-2 second delay in acceleration after pressing the throttle. Seems to be worse in hot weather.
Engine and transmission will bog down while driving, when restating the car 1 hour after a trip. In other words, many times after sitting for about an hour, when merging into traffic, the car will stop accelerating. If I pump the gas a couple of times the engine "catches" and off I go. Very dangerous when merging into traffic. No warning it's going to happen or not.
The car has always had initial take off problems, pressing the gas to accelerate out of my driveway or any place I’m first taking off at when turning on the vehicle again, the acceleration cuts out in the middle of accelerating and then all of a sudden revs up. That’s with keeping a steady consistent foot on the gas pedal. It jerks down and then jerks up and is not able to avoid. Through the last few months I’ve also noticed involuntary steering-I start to think it’s windy outside pushing me from side to side but the trees are clearly not moving as if it is. Then I was driving today, started it up, got about 5 miles from my house, starting shaking the whole car while accelerating up and the epc and check engine light was blinking. I had to turn around to bring it home, wouldn’t let me go past 35 without shaking intensely but made it back to my driveway.
From a cold start even with warming up the car, I can only drive so many feet before the car begins to hesitate as I proceed. It is as if the transmission cannot respond to the petal. At 25k miles, it is persistently getting worse and will visibly hop as I proceed. Then the transmission will finally remember how to drive and it won’t do it again until it sits for awhile. I make a left turn from my road where the cars are going 55mph. It’s an accident waiting to happen. Furthermore, it is the same problem that Volkswagen has been having for the previous years. The dealership claims this is what they do. Also that it’s normal for my low oil light to come on in between oil changes!.
My 2022 vw Tiguan 2. 0t has delayed acceleration, hesitation, and often bangs into gear at start up. This issue can easily cause an accident when merging into traffic due the lack of reliable acceleration. I have had the vehicle to the dealer and they have found no problem. However, when pressed about internet reports of such problems with the 8 speed transmission they do acknowledge they have heard similar reports. They note there are no repair solutions from vw.
Oil light went on in may, 2023, at approximately 15k miles, then again in August 2023, at approximately 17,500 miles. Both times the oil was down 1 quart. We have been seeing smoke come out of the exhaust, intermittently. Vw service department did a oil consumption test which resulted in the car burning just under a quart of oil after 600 miles. They said the car is functioning normally, but if it burned over a 1/2 quart of oil, they would do something, but not sure what they would do. They have not addressed the "smoke coming out of the exhaust" issue.
I have owned the vehicle since October 2022, currently ~4,400 miles. During second week of ownership, backup camera was blank upon startup and placing vehicle into reverse. A system reboot solved the issue, but several reboots have been required in subsequent months. Common that audio doesn't initiate (from any source) as well. Second issue - cold-engine acceleration is borderline dangerous as the vehicle can seem to bog down then lurch with sudden acceleration. After engine warms, this does not occur. Third issue - during straight-line driving, car sometimes changes gears for no apparent reason - sometimes not smoothly. Downshifting can skip gears far too often. Final issue - safety sensors (collision warning) have activated at least twice since owning (6 months) for no reason - looks like 'red space invader' in center of dash and loud chime comes on as well.
The car will not accelerate when cold, after it falls on it's nose when trying to accelerate, it then surges ahead. After the first few accelerations, it is fine. It is especially dangerous when we try to pull out of our home onto the busy street where we live. This has been an issue sine we bought the car and it seems to get worse with time. The dealer has tried to correct this problem with no success. The first time they said the could not duplicate he problem, the second time they said they adjusted the transmission, that made it worse.
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the epc warning light illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The vehicle was towed to the dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.
When backing up the rear camera is on to see behind, when shifting into drive and headed forward the camera is still in the reverse mode and not showing the front of the car but still showing the rear view. Dealership said you have to push the camera button to get the front view after shifting to drive. This is crazy. And when the engine is cold it hesitates when accelerating until the engine warms up.
