1 Cruise Control problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 04/27/2021

While driving at any speed, decreasing the set speed using cruise control multiple times in succession led to an increase in the set speed.

2 Cruise Control problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 10/13/2017

No electrical connection to steering wheel, air bag light is on. . . All similar problems to takata recall but my VIN was not included in the recall and the dealership is trying to charge me $800 to fix it. When vehicle was stationary and switched on, there was a tearing sound from the steering wheel - then nothing worked in the steering wheel, not the horn or the cruise control or anything. And the air bag light is on.

3 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 08/02/2016

While the car is in motion with cruise control active, pressing the "set/-" switch is supposed to decrease the vehicle speed in 1 mph increments for each press of the switch. When attempting to decrease speed gradually for upcoming speed limit changes, or when vehicles pull-in a bit too soon after passing, my Tiguan will often quickly increase the "set" speed by by 2-4 mph when the "set/-" switch is pressed. An internet search shows that other vw owners have experienced this same phenomena and the dealers tell them it is not a safety concern! I disagree with that statement. It's true that the cruise control can be cancelled or turned off in these situations. That's called a "work around. " in other words, there's a defect, but as long as you know how it will act, be prepared and cancel rather than use the "decelerate" switch. Volkswagen needs to address this, as most people would be expecting the car to slow when this switch is pressed, not quickly accelerate.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

When operating at 65mph on cruise control I noticed a truck ahead of me slowing at a hill, so I pressed the "down" button to reduce the speed to 64, then again to 63 mph. When I clicked again for 62 mph the vehicle suddenly sped up because the cruise control had jumped back to 65 mph. By that point I was quite close to the truck and had to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision. This happened to me twice before I figured out what was going on. My dealer has verified this issue in my vehicle and has determined that all new 2014 Tiguans on their lot have this defect, as well as at least one 2014 passat. A member of the Tiguan owners group on facebook has reported that his 2010 Tiguan has this issue. Volkwagen of America customer service has officially tried to blow me off and make me go away. This issue does not occur every time, usually randomly occurring between 30-40% of the time.

5 Cruise Control problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 06/28/2014

The epc light came on many times between 2011 and 2014 and the electronic throttle kicked out of cruise control. Miller vw checked the car July 2011, did not have a solution and cleared the codes. I asked our local mechanic about it in July 2013 who identified that there was a TSB for the throttle body wiring harness. We continued to observe the intermittent epc fault response but experienced no problems. The first major incident occurred 28 June 2014 entering I-89 north when entering traffic the epc and engine fault lights came on and the engine lost all power jusy as we entered the travel lane. The car went into limp mode and would go no faster than 35 mph I switched off the engine while traveling which reset the throttle fault allowing us to continue traveling. This is a short ramp and there is no shoulder at the end of the ramp. I made an appointment for the car at walker vw to repair the car on 2 July. The service department was unable to make the repairs that day as they did not have all of the required parts on hand. On 22 July my wife was preparing to enter I-91 from route 5 south via a left turn on ramp when the epc and engine fault lights came on and the engine went into limp mode just as she was preparing to turn into the on ramp. A tractor trailer was rapidly overtaking her in that lane in a driving rain and the car would not exceed 20 mph. She turned on the flashers and the overtaking trucker veered into the right lane avoiding collision. I then made an appointment with our local car repair shop and trusted mechanic at kingdom imports. They ordered the parts and installed the replacement wiring iaw the TSB on 29 July 2014. Even after ordering two complete sets of parts vw did not include the shrink tape required to stabilize the wiring. Vw has chosen the worst solution and should issue a recall and install a purpose built wiring harness.

6 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

The cruise control speed setting, under certain conditions, will increase when the decrease speed button is pressed. More specifically, when reducing the cruise control speed using the toggle switch at the end of turn signal stem on the left of the steering column, the cruise speed will increase back to the original speed if there is any hesitation in resetting the speed. For example, if the speed is set at 55 and the toggle switch is pressed 5 times to slow the car and reset the speed to 50, if there is a hesitation of a second or two and then toggle again to set the speed at 49, the cruise will reset to 55 and the car will begin accelerating back to the original speed. This occurs even though the only button pressed is the reduce speed button. This occurs at any speed setting (this condition occurred 100% of the times tested at speeds ranging from 40 to 70 mph) and under any conditions (uphill, down hill, and flat driving) - set the speed lower, hesitate, and then reduce the speed further - causes the cruise to reset back to the original speed and the car to accelerate unexpectedly. Hope this is clear - email or call if this requires further explanation.
