I discovered a potential safety defect while inspecting and preparing my graco turn2me child restraint for eventual forward-facing use. The seat is model 2170122, manufactured 08/26/2024. The physical snuglock/latch configuration of my seat appears inconsistent with graco’s published turn2me instructions and installation videos. The rear-facing snuglock lock-off/release mechanism shown by graco does not appear to be present or accessible on my seat. The gray inright lower-anchor/latch strap is routed through the blue rear-facing belt path and cannot be repositioned in the manner shown in graco’s instructions. I cannot move the lower-anchor system into its designated storage location or reroute it through the orange forward-facing belt path as required for forward-facing latch installation. This child restraint has been used to transport my child before I discovered the condition. There was no crash, fire, injury, or fatality associated with the discovery. I have stopped using the seat. I reported the issue directly to graco. Graco created case #52041838 and case #52041872, cross-referenced them for product safety review, and instructed me in writing to “refrain from using the product until further advice is given. ” I am requesting that NHTSA review this as a potential manufacturing/assembly or child-restraint safety defect. Photographs documenting the seat, lower-anchor routing, apparent snuglock discrepancy, and manufacturer label are available.
This appears to be a design defect in the interaction between the lock-off bar and the seat belt during removal. Beyond the property damage, this creates a safety risk: a caregiver who cannot remove or reinstall the seat may drive with an improperly secured car seat, and a damaged or cut vehicle belt in that seating position is unusable until repaired. I reported this to evenflo’s parentlink support on 7/19/2026 (ref:!00df402dtf0. !500uy0uvwtd:ref). Evenflo responded that the tangling meant I “incorrectly followed” a step, without asking any diagnostic questions, and denied reimbursement. My requests for escalation on 7/21 and 7/23 have gone unanswered. Photos of the seat, the belt path, and the cut belt are available on request.
The car seat was put in the rear seat of the vehicle. The seat belt was used first and then switched to the lower anchors to secure it in the seat. First noticed there was more then an inch of play in the seat after tightening it down with the seat belt and then the lower anchors. Next the seat would not level up either in the rear seat of the vehicle. After moving the height adjustment to the different levels it had the seat would still not get level and be in the indicator on the bubble. We tried several times to get it level and tighten it down and it still would not level up and still had a lot of play in it side to side. Based on this we did not feel comfortable putting the baby in this seat. The car seat was not inspected by anyone.
My rava car seat was recalled voluntarily due to an issue with the harness tether loosening from debris getting into the latch secondary to a manufacturer design flaw. When replacing my car seat cover as per the recall instructions, I discovered the impact foam on my rava was completely cracked down the middle. The car seat has never been moved out of my vehicle since the initial install other than to replace the cover as per recall instructions, and my car along with the car seat have never been in an accident. I only discovered the cracked impact foam because I was replacing the car seat cover as per the recall instructions. I have no idea how long the car seat had been compromised like this as I have never had to remove the cover for any reason. I contacted nuna about this issue and they stated since it is out of the 2 year warranty they can’t do anything about it and to discontinue use. I am now out the $600 I spent on a car seat that allegedly had stellar safety ratings. There are hundreds of people on online forums complaining about the same issue with nuna’s impact foam. Had I not discovered this malfunction my daughter could have been seriously injured in the event of a crash. This is a huge safety issue and should be addressed with the company.
