1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2023

My SUV was sitting for a few days at the airport and I when I got in the car, it started fine but the headlights, interior lights, power folding mirrors and the voltmeter were not working. I had to leave the car there since it was night time. The next day I drove it home in daylight and started checking fuses. I noticed two fuses (#2, #12) on the driver side fuse panel were failed. I replaced the #2, 5 amp, fuse and no changes were noticed. Then I replaced the #12, 25 amp, fuse and I heard a number of systems clicking and powering on; the lights flickered. Then I smelled burning and saw a puff of smoke come from under the dash. I immediately pulled the fuse . After troubleshooting, I found the body control module 7l6-937-049-k had caught fire internally and started to burn through the casing. Had I not pulled the fuse and disconnected the battery, this could have been catastrophic. Once I smelled the smoke, I realized it was like the acrid smell in the SUV the night before. The fact the fuse blew the previous day saved the vehicle. It was parked on the fourth floor of parking garage at the airport so many vehicles could have been damaged and people endangered had it caught fire. Not to mention the disruption at an airport. There were no warning lamps. The only indication of a problem was the inoperable systems I mentioned. Also thinking back, the slight acrid smell was present the day I arrived at the airport, I had mistaken it for plane exhaust and car exhaust smells in the garage. The vehicle has not been inspected by any dealer, manufacturer or govermental agency. I have contacted the manufacturer for guidance and help with repairing. I am awaiting a response.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2021

Leaking gas caught on fire put it out but now I have no head lights no high beams replaced everything still nothing. All lights on dash go crazy kills battery all the time and had to replace something in the rear end. Overall it has cost me $2500 and I still have no headlights at all and leaking gas. It’s my only vehicle I hope next time it doesn’t catch back on fire could have been worse and still could be. Somebody could get hurt and I have kids.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2020

Light went out on dark road. Nearly crashed. Found insulation on wires for lights deteriorated. Harness was melted lower in the fender. Online search found same issue is common and included fires.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2019

Lights on the dash come on hill assist shuts on and off by itself brake light comes on and off sunroof has open by itself ac has stopped working and the next day works again heated steering wheel works when it wants this happened while you're driving or sitting still everything I have read on the internet has pointed to an electrical issue this is an everyday thing.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2016

The emergency brake alarm was going off more frequently and to silence it I would pull the sping on the brake up. The brake alarm randomly was anoying but not a major concern. I hadn't had any mechanical issues with my car until 01/23/16 I attempted to start my car and recieved an error message the read steering defect and it wouldn't allow you to start the car beyond the error message. I had my car towed to volkswagon mentor ohio after holding my car for more than a week I was finally offered a diagnosis that the access modular was not functioning meaning the brain of the vehicle wasn't functioning and the vw dealership service department didn't have answer to how this happened they had a $2500 solution to the problem and they were more than happy to assist in replacement of the access modular with there hearty cost. The brain the volkswagon access modular stops functioning and Volkswagen at no fault of mine and I'm charged $2500 plus. Mechanical maintenance I understand but replacement of the vehicles access modular is a repair that I feel volkswgon should cover.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2014

Came out to 2004 v8 Touareg, and it would not start. Mri reads steering defective workshop. After some research I discovered that this is a common defect in toraregs and one which vw refuses to take responsibility of. It renders the vehicle paralyzed and due to it being all wheel drive, requires special equipment to even tow it. I am furious. This is a known, dangerous issue and no recall for it - shame on you vw. What if I was with my young children? there is no warning for this failure. All is fine and then wham, it will not start, turn over, shift into neutral, etc. You are 100% paralyzed where you are - be it at a gas pump or a remote dirt road.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

I recently purchased a 2004 vw tuareg in July 1st of 2014. Immediately upon purchasing the vehicle I began receiving a parking brake alarm when I turned on the vehicle. The alarm would persist until I pushed down on the parking break. I would also receive an occasional alarm for the tire pressure monitoring system. Then, on December 15, 2014 the vehicle refused to turn on at all. The dashboard display had a flashing steering wheel. I had the vehicle towed to a Volkswagen dealership where the technicians looked it over and told me that the cause of the problem is that two cables touched and shorted out the system. After 3 weeks of holding the vehicle, the cost of repair was quoted at around $3,500 to replace some modules. I was also informed that this might be a recall issue as many other 2004 vw tuaregs have had similar problems.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2010

2004 vw Touareg v-8 many problems but 3 worth reporting: for no apparent reason passenger door could not be opened or unlatched by using any known means including the inside door handle or outside door handle, electric lock actuator clicks as if the door is unlocked but the door can not be opened or unlatched. Vehicle had to be brought to vw dealership and worked on by destroying the door handle to open the door and perhaps cutting a whole in the body pannel at the cost of 2 hours of diagnostics, 8 hours of labor to open door and probably 2 or 3 additional hours of replacing door handle if body of door is not bent, plus parts vehicle has many electrical glitches including but not limited to intermittent malfunction of air bag igniters. . . . Once again having the potential to cause serious harm occupants given the right circumstances this is a potential dangerous situation and has made me lose all faih in this manufacturer. Vehicle lunges forward when stopped at trafic lights and beginning to procceed on a green.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2010

Unexpected and sudden electrical malfunction of the steering column lock causing the vehicle to shut down, unable to start or move shifter lever out of gear.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2006

I have had my 2004 vw Touareg since June 2006 and have had problem after problem with the vehicle. The catalytic converter went out within 6 weeks of buying the car, the drive shaft had to be replaced, the air conditioning compressor had to be replaced, the brakes have had to be replaced and I am getting another "check brake pads" error again, the tire monitoring system continually tells me I have a flat, the radio amplifier was making a loud cracking so the dealership replaced a fuse and blew the 2 back speakers (which they would not fix, hewlett vw in georgetown, texas), the auto differential is going out. There seems to be no end in sight for repairs.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2006

My vehicle, a 2004 vw Touareg looses power, the volt meter drops to zero and then the turn signals stop working. All the lights in the vehicle dim and if you switch the vehicle off, it will not start again. The vehicle was drive a few hours earlier, with no problems. This has been a re-occurring problem with the vehicle at the dealership at least 5 or more times in a 2 month period.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2005

Passenger door opened going down the road, handle does not retract sometimes. A litany of electric quirks and excessive tire wear, also jerky acceleration.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2005

The radio display system (displays radio station info, song title, and artist) quit working. The dealer has reconnected the radio and replaced the radio. Each time it works fine for a few hours after returning home then it quits displaying information. The dealer said the radio isn't designed to display this info, yet it worked for a month after getting the vehicle! it works on my other car. The radio is the upgrade monsoon system with cd.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2005

The vehicle hesitates on acceleration, and this happens intermittently. While stepping on the gas pedal and the vehicle hesitates. The consumer took the vehicle to dealer, and they said this was normal, but they did say Volkswagen programmed a delay in the computer chip. There is no forewarning, no lights come on, and there is no noise. This first happened on March 1, 2005.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2004

1. The clock on the dashboard: the time is running almost 1 minute faster per day. If you don’t fix it for 10 days, it would run 10 minutes ahead. 2. The driver’s seat: when I purchased this car, I asked for power seats but the dealer didn’t have it. I was a little uncomfortable with the manual seat, but the sales person convinced me, so I decided to take the one with manual. Since then, i’ve felt that the driver’s seat is always sinking down so I consistently have to pull up the stick to push up the seat quite often while i’m driving. 3. Rear seat: I had to fold the rear seat once to load something in the back. After, I tried to unfold the seat but it didn’t go back. I brought this car to the dealer’s service on Nov. 15th, 2004. While one of the service persons was trying to unfold the rear seat, he had to cut the seat belt and has scratched the seat and broken some piece on the seat. He said he’s going to order some parts and it would take a few days. Ever since then, nobody knows the status of this order. Both the service dept and the “customer care dept, in headquarters have always been telling me “it’s on backorder with “no further information, and they “don’t know when for last six months. I asked them “if you don’t have the part, even in germany, how long will it take for the manufacturer to make the part? and they keep saying is “don’t know and “we are still checking the status of the part everyday. € in a common sense, the period of four months should be enough time to make the part and ship it to the dealer. I also sent a complaint letter to the ceo of the dealer/mckenna & vw north America headquater a couple of months ago. But still they don't know about the part.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2004

2004 vw Touareg, in the first year of ownership the car has been in the shop or in alarm mode for 220 days. I have had the car in eight times for a "tire scrubbing" problem and three times for an alarm problem. I have noe filed a law suit and sold the car without ever hearing any concerns from vw.
