1 Suspension problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 06/15/2021

During the time that I drive this vehicle, I noticed from early times that the steering wheel is likely to shake after certain speed, likely around 70+. I have consulted many vw dealership but they couldn't figure out the problem. I did some research online and found a lot of people have experienced similar issue. And it is concluded that this is very likely a suspension problem. From many others' feedback, vw dealership cannot solve this problem, and even many after the vw changed a new Touareg for the customers for free, the new vehicle still have the same problem. Because this is really annoying, with this steering wheel shaking at high speed for the whole front body of the car, I think I should report this problem to let it be known, and hopefully vw can have some solution figured out, that all cars affected can be repaired, to prevent any accidents that this could lead to, and to let people be able to drive smoothly in their car in all speeds, just like every other models/brands of cars.

4 Suspension problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 04/13/2018

My car since I bought it and it has a visible shaking in the steering wheel, there were multiple attempts to fix the problem and it just keeps coming back. Eventually vw customer service is saying that it is a normal characteristic of the car. I researched this online and I am not the only affected person, there are even videos published to show the problem , and vw is trying to avoid admitting it is a defect. They even wanted me to try another car on the lot which had a sim lab problem and the shop foreman at ide vw said he hasn't seen this problem before and he is surprised and the car should not have that problem.

5 Suspension problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 05/24/2016

Since I purchased my 2016 Touareg tdi in September 2015. The steering wheel vibration has become quite an issue as it is getting worse the longer I drive it. I have had it road tested, wheels balance tires rotated on three different occasions and it continues to vibrate at the steering. I have only 4000 miles on the odometer. The vibration begins around 45-50 mph. It does not matter what type of surface. I called vw of America they set up another appointment with my local dealership. Not only is this vibration wrong it is also a safety issue which can result in excessive tire wear, and possibly a blow out causing an accident.

7 Suspension problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 02/04/2015

Purchased vehicle on 2/1/15. I noticed when driving at speeds above 63 mph the steering wheel shakes back and forth which is felt through the steering wheel, seat & front end. I opened a case with vw on about 2/11/15 and made an appointment with my local vw service department for 2/16/15. On 2/16/15 the vw dealer made a repair which helped reduce the sws, but it did not go away. I made another appointment for 2/23/15 for them to revisit this problem. For the second appointment the service department stated they didn't detect any shaking of the steering wheel. I picked the vehicle up and found the steering wheel was still shaking at speeds above 63 mph. I returned to the dealership (same day) and took the service advisor with me on a test drive. I demonstrated the steering wheel shake and he acknowledged it. He stated they may not be able to get rid of it. I left the vehicle with the dealership for them to work on it more. The service department swapped wheels with another Touareg and it still had the steering wheel shaking problem. I picked the vehicle up and this problem still persists.

8 Suspension problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 08/14/2013

Air shock exterior housing and coupling on air hose are made of two non compatible metals causing the air shock to deteriorate. This causes the air shock to loose air pressure.

9 Suspension problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 07/29/2013

Vehicle exhibits a steering wheel shake that consistently occurs above 60mph on all road surfaces. At onset, can feel oscillation in hands and arms. With hands lightly on wheel or removed, can visually confirm steering wheel oscillation (cyclical rotation from l to r and back) with about 3/8" total travel at steering wheel perimeter. Cabin also exhibits slight vibration which can be felt in seat. Car does not track well in lane and consistently pulls to the right. Vw is aware of problem and addresses it in TSB 44-13-01 from June 2013. Repeated application of the remedies in the TSB have failed to remedy the problem. Substitution of all four wheels and tires from another Touareg that does not exhibit this problem fails to remedy the problem, suggesting that the problem is not the wheels/tires. Issue persists with no remedy to date.

10 Suspension problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 07/22/2013

When the vehicle is driven at speeds between 60 mph - 75 mph the steering wheel shakes back and forth. The steering wheel shake is noticeable to the point that if you take your hands off the steering wheel you literally can see the steering wheel vibrate back and forth. The air pressure in the tires has been checked, the tires have been rotated and the Volkswagen dealer has road force balanced the tires 2x in an attempt to resolve the issue over the duration of a year. The attempts by Volkswagen has not resolved the issue and they have no answer to why the vehicle is not performing correctly.

11 Suspension problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 01/21/2010

Driving 2004 Touareg equipped with air suspension. Speed 55 starting right hand sweeping turn the right side air suspension blew out dropping the front end to bump stops causing rear of truck to bounce and go sideways causing loss of control of vehicle. Apparently there is a TSB to change the material of the connector that blew out, however dealership is not willing to perform it unless I pay for anything they may break in the process of the repair. Corrosion is causing failures in the northeast.

14 Suspension problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 07/15/2006

I have had my 2004 vw Touareg since June 2006 and have had problem after problem with the vehicle. The catalytic converter went out within 6 weeks of buying the car, the drive shaft had to be replaced, the air conditioning compressor had to be replaced, the brakes have had to be replaced and I am getting another "check brake pads" error again, the tire monitoring system continually tells me I have a flat, the radio amplifier was making a loud cracking so the dealership replaced a fuse and blew the 2 back speakers (which they would not fix, hewlett vw in georgetown, texas), the auto differential is going out. There seems to be no end in sight for repairs.

15 Suspension problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 10/10/2005

Alignment on 2004 vw Touareg is horrible. Taken back at least 3 times and it has never been fixed. Tires are now shot because of the alignment problems. Computer keeps beeping that there is a flat tire when the air pressure is fine when checked. Taken in at least 3 times and it still has not been fixed. Speakers rattle as if they are blown. . . . Also. . . . Never been fixed.

16 Suspension problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 10/01/2005

Consumer Volkswagen Touareg drifts to the right. *** no answer required***.

17 Suspension problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 08/07/2005

I am having trouble with my vw Touareg v6. Since then I have had numerous visits to the dealer for failures in design. Footlight would not shut off when the car was off due to trunk door latch being broken at time of purchase. Tires were wearing faster than normal and the alignment was bad. I was given new tires, however, when I asked if this could happen again, I was told yes and they were unsure what vw would do in the future. Tire pressure light goes on and off at any time. I was told this was a malfunction that happens when you have numerous computer options. It came on after a tire rotation and oil change and the dealer said "don't worry, it will reset itself and go off". Radio has mysteriously stopped working for 24 hours at a time. Car has actually been dead on two occasions and has left me stranded. I was told by the dealer that the battery in the Touareg can't support the car and the computer modules. I was told there was nothing that could be done about this as the battery was fully charged. I was told this was a mistake by vw and I would have to live with it. I was also told to not drive in the city as this makes the problem much worse. I was told that they aren't sure how that happened, but simply resetting the car made it return. Cd player would not work, car was "reset". I find this car to be the biggest joke ever made. I unfortunately am over the mileage for the lemon law in maine (I have 27,000miles on the car). I really think things are getting worse in my car the longer I have the thing. My biggest concern with the car is that there is a possibility it could stop working at any moment. I feel I should not have to carry a self jumping system in a practically brand new $34,000 car. I was also told by my dealership when I stated I was thinking of selling the car, that they didn't blame me as they had heard a lot of people say that about the Touareg. Yeah, I feel really safe with this car. I think it is time someone do something about this car and vw.

18 Suspension problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

Tire pressure monitoring system failure (tpms) no events led to failure, system just disappeared from car. . . Tells me I have a flat tire when I don't. . . . Tires losing pressure now and alignment is off for a second time after being serviced, tires wearing incorrectly and at a fast rate. . . There is a serious problem here that need to be investigated with vw before another Ford/tire situation/death happens to all of us now vw Touareg owners. (2004 vw Touareg v6 owner: brand new!).

The contact owns a 2004 Volkswagen Touareg. The warning tone of the tire pressure monitoring system sounds intermittently. In addition, the headlights failed, and the vehicle pulled to the right sporadically and without warning. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure. 20 Suspension problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

Contact state the tires wore out after only 14,000 miles. The service dealer realigned the vehicle and replaced the tires. The consumer stated there were no indications that vehicle was out of alignment until the tires wore out and made noise, and at low speeds the steering wheel vibrated. The tires were rotated at the service dealer before the problem with the alignment became evident. Also, they replaced a defective stepper motor. Consumer asked the dealer if this would be a recurring problem, and they could not give him a straight answer. It was the recommendation of the manufacturer, and was fixed according to Volkswagen standards.

21 Suspension problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 02/01/2005
